I remembered the time when Maria was forced to wrestle Umaga on a Raw storyline. She said in an interview that he was one of the few people she liked to be in a ring with. Hard to say if some of them were "ignored" or if their deaths just slipped under the WWE's radar. It's a 24/7 business with no off-season, and it's not like they wake up everyday and check to see if anyone in the wrestling world has died. If it's a lesser name, then the news of there death isn't even going to make most news outlets. That said, they should have definitely known about a few of these guys and given them the proper sendoff.

Not gonna lie, I had completely forgotten about Kanyon. I wonder if his struggles out of the ring, his depression and later his subsequent suicide, was a result of how Vince and the WWE as a whole treated him and the other WCW talent. Could explain why the company only acknowledged it through a little blurb on their website instead of on tv. Like the video said, Kanyon had the wrestling chops and was making moves in WCW prior to the merger. Then the McMahons purchased WCW from Ted Turner and pretty much every one of the WCW wrestlers got screwed over, except Booker T. Who was willing to stand up for his character’s sake. I’m glad Sting didn’t make the switch after the acquisition, because I’d have hated seeing the WWE treat Steve Borden’s persona like crap. Sting has said he doesn’t regret not making the jump, because he was fearful McMahon would have done just that. DDP has even said he wished he had walked away with his guaranteed contract through WCW instead of being involved in the invasion. Vince and the WWF did a lot of damage to the careers of a lot of former WCW wrestlers after they bought WCW. Whether on purpose, by thinking they know all, or a combination of both, the WWF/WWE pissed all over the careers of a number of talented WCW wrestlers with how they handled those characters during the invasion. Jericho was lucky he decided to jump ship after his WCW contract was up long before WCW was sold to the McMahons. I’d hate to think what might have been had he joined the WWE after the WCW acquisition and he had been a part of the invasion angle. The Ayatollah of Rock-n-Rolla might never have been what he became. Joining when and how he did allowed him a lot more freedom than what the former WCW wrestlers got when the invasion angle took place.

I met Hercules in Detroit Michigan at Metro Airport back in the 80's. I was just a kid but I recognized him right away. I remember letting go of my dad's hand and walking towards to Hercules. I asked him if he was really Hercules and he said, "I am sure kid. There's a lot of us in town this weekend." I talked to him for about 3 minutes and thanked him for talking to me, and wished him luck in his match. I walked back to where my dad was and I saw Kerry Von Erich sitting at a bar. He was having some whiskey, he was wearing sunglasses and had a black eye. I walked up to him and asked him if he was the Texas Tornado himself. He looked at me, pulled his glasses down to look me in the eyes and he said, "Every day buddy. I met so many wrestlers that day. Tony Atlas, Hogan, Rowdy Roddy, Junkyard Dog, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat,..... Every single one of them treated me like I was welcome and appreciated.

Giving the bell at the end of the video was pure class! It doesn't matter what circumstances end a superstar's life. What matters is that when they were in the ring, they gave it their all! And we should acknowledge that and show appreciation for that, and the struggle they went through to give us, the fans, that level of performance.

Test was a Weapon; tall and powerful, as you'd expect, but also agile, good from the Top Rope, and had a great Move Set. A real shame he wasn't utilised better, might've encouraged him to stay clearer of the substances. Sad about the rest too, especially the suicides. 😑

Based on what Jericho gave about Umaga, I don't think they were really "ignoring" any of these deaths. I honestly think in most part since a lot of these deaths were after Chris Benoit and since they were either suicides or accidental ODs, I think they just wanted to tred carefully about if they should acknowledge them or not and if they did, how they should go about it. In Viscera's case, his may have been motivated by backstage politics since, in his first run as Mabel he broke The Undertaker's face and broke Diesel's rib cage, a lot of the wrestlers didn't like working with him and thought he was still too stiff even after all his repackagings and, since they were repackaging him again & again they had been giving chance after chance but in the end they got unbearably fed up with him.

It’s interesting coming back to wrestling and seeing that slot of these hero’s.. they are actually no longer with us. Many I didn’t know about, since I don’t follow much about wrestling anymore. Sad to hear, particularly noticing the trend with suicide and addiction. Head trauma really has such a big role to play on mental health it appears.
