the at min 30:52 cheese asked, why used 2 different method to enter Volcano. 1st method is faster but has to take damage, 2nd method is slower but no damage taken. nobori needed HP for the star in the 2nd method Thus using 2 different method

I think the real beauty of these blindfolded runs is that it makes us feel that sense of wonder we felt when first learning about speedrunning for this game. In a game where the "normal" speed tech is among the most well known and documented of any game, seeing someone surprise us again by pulling off crazy stuff is refreshing.

what impresses me the most with this is the insane amount of memorization this takes. i am willing to bet nobori has a genius level IQ. this has to be so much more than just audio cues, the amount of things he has to memorize for all the movements as well as back-ups in honestly mind blowing. this guy is beyond next level

59:55 when mario is on an elevator and ledge grabs and a ceiling is above him, he will automatically ledge grab to prevent squisihing damage (or because his hitbox when ledge grabbing is actually up there, it makes sense for him to not fall down). thats a mechanic and he uses it to tell when mario is fully up

Fury is one of the words where Y is seen as the sometimes vowel. It causes the U to say its name. "F you ree" instead of 'Fuh ree' Its one of the more obscure rules of English phenetics that schools don't teach anymore. I believe its borrowed from Welsh, where W is an always vowel.

When I did my very first 70 star run I got around 2 hours. This guy beat my time with around 30 minutes blindfolded omg.

Blindfolded SM64 are some of my favorite runs, loved the GDQ run bubzia did and this, hoping the category gets more popular! It deserves the attention.

"He's from Japan, the name kind of gives it away." Actually a lot of white guys like using Japanese names too when gaming/streaming. And almost all of them have a neckbeard and/or a huge gut.

Nobori is insane. Every time he does the slide, he says out loud what the time is (13.7, 13.4, etc) and is always right. (I've only seen him get it wrong once for the first slide, and he went back and corrected his estimate when he did the slide the second time)

41:26 Every corner works like that. If you hit an unreferenced wall and can't wallkick, moving the tiniest bit away from the wall immediately gives you a wallkick. What you might be thinking of are situations where you have an angle towards the wall so you can't strain away from it, but here Mario is just parallel to the wall that prevents him from wallkicking so he can easily move away.

Routing blindfolded is a test of imagination. I did some work planning things out for Freedom Planet, and you have to experiment from each new guaranteed position with a whole bunch of options. Sometimes the craziest ideas just happen to line up in some way.

First step to doing a blindfold speed run would be to try to do a run without talking

40:50. Pretty sure he corrects because of the nature of his setup. He knows he's a little to the right, so he gives a little left movement to keep himself from the side he'd be close to. When he reaches the far wall on that angle, he walks left first to get himself situated before getting to the moving parts, thus canceling his any error from the original angle.

OOT angle setups are insane. I remember learning the early bombchus in the well. Clipping through the vine wall with the Skulltula. I actually had so much trouble with pausing it correctly with the frame+button buffer. Where you let go and quickly press down and then up. That instead I was able to continously do it without frame pausing. Still usually get it every try without pause frame buffer. Miss those old days :(

Blindfold speedrunning is like being a human TAS engine. You memorize the entire list of inputs from start to finish except you use sound cues to time everything instead of counting frames like a computer does.

Referencing the audio cues, he is clearly wearing headphones. Possibly the headphone sound mode helps quite a bit compared to the stereo mode.

Imagine if he did the WKWW mountain clip blindfold. I spent hours getting the WR on WKWW, although it was PJ64 1.6. I believe its a tied WR or probably beaten. Its been years, but it was a flawless star. Kind of wanna go back to it.

*WOWSER BOWSER!!* The strats that he uses in this run are _sooooo_ efficient that it makes me _suuuuper_ skeptical that he can’t see through that blindfold. He did have a game over and totally could’ve saved that last death if he moved back just a tiiiiny bit (the only way he would’ve known how close he was tho, obviously, is if he could see through the blindfold. He also must stream daily for his fans who have watched his strats, timed movements, and PB/WR attempt runs for a _very_ long time. Not accusing this guy of anything -- this is just general curiosity on blindfolded runs: how do you know they aren't being told minor corrections by someone (either in the room or through the headset)? I'm thinking of times when they are close to a star or coin or whatever, and they need to know exactly what angle to go.

I gaurentee his little adjustment to center himself on the platform is just muscle memory, he knows he cant die for going to far left unlike his right; so why not take a step over to ease your mind since you're blund
