(日本語字幕あり)Welcome to Ryujinmura in rural Japan. Lee moved here 1 year ago and reformed a 120 year old abandoned traditional Japanese house. In this video, he introduces his own home and two other abandoned homes which were bought recently and discusses tips and tricks on what to look out for when buying and renovating a home.
Lee will be running his own cafe where he will sell singaporean style satay pork skewers. He also hand plucks tea and makes Japanese tea in the traditional method.
If you’re interested in following his adventures, he also runs his own youtube channel!

Inspiring to see a fellow Singaporean take an alternative path in life and seek happiness. Thanks for sharing Lee. The future of our young is bright if more take the less travelled path to build an enlarged Singapore in the world and making it better. 😊

I visited Japan years ago. I was able to visit a Samurai home with a tour guide. She answered so many questions about the architecture. I love that you explain about everything and why things were done a certain way. I will definitely stop by there on my next trip. The traditional buildings are absolutely beautiful!

I grew up in a loose clay floored house in Hungary. We swept it daily with a wet broom to created a thin film which kept the dust down. The house had a thatched roof. Storks often nested in the chimneys. We were not poor, tht type of natural material worked with the climate & elements. And anything that can be sourced locally means you lesson your own carbon footprint & will be rewarded by God for your care of his planets. As a carpenter, builder, renovator it shocked me when I kept hearing that those in Haiti who always seem to have their hands out for international assistance refused houses that were to be built to the standards which would use local materials which would be accessible to them to maintain their homes properly on a regular basis. Everyone wants the N. American style houses that they see on tv or in magazines, which are totally inappropriate for many climates, for many people of modest means or for DIYers. My grandmother with limited assistance was always able to keep our home in good repair, our gardens in high production despite losing her husband when we were invaded during the Hungarian revolution. That more clever & reasonable sized home that your parents live in would suite me just fine. I really like the dominant points of design which make it impossible for even badly brought up persons to know that you never go into a house in shoes that have been on public filthy sidewalks etc.

how does the tea plant protect the walls?
@alternativelifestylesjapan
@alternativelifestylesjapan Год назад
From memory what Lee said was that because the roots of the tea plants go deep into the ground, this helps hold the soil in to place. It was common to have tea plants at the back of houses to protect them from landslides.
