Color and flash is really pretty. Love the shape. Might want to try doing it upside down next time. That way, if the flakes float, they will be in the middle of the piece next to the black. Also insures a glossy finished edge on top. If you’re worried about the inclusions sinking, just put a thin layer of clear down first or use thicker resin. Definitely going to try this one. Thanks!

Would this have a better finish if the process was reversed? Clear first then the black. Just a thought.

Let me make a suggestion. Try Doreen Beads. They have stainless steel chain. Different length and prettier chains than the cheap looking bead chain. They also have all kinds of bails. I find their pricing the best so far. Much cheaper than Amazon. Takes longer to get from China but worth the wait. Just a suggestion. The black opals are my favorite.

I'm just at the beginning of your video. If it were me I would have used the NEON green. With the darker colors to really make it pop! Just my opinion. I'm sure that came out beautiful I'm about to see! They're at least one person's not quiet today! 😆

Hello, I thought you might want to consider trying a little clear glue in future projects to hold your little flakes in place. It drys fast and doesn’t effect the outcome of the piece provided you use very little and the glue is dry before adding more resin. It also works great for charms or pretty much anything you don’t want moving all over the place. Of course you should try a sample piece first just in case it works for me and not for others 😳 P.S. I love your videos and have learned a great deal from you so I want to extend a big heartfelt ❤️ THANK YOU all the way from The Sunshine State of Florida in the USA !

Hello from Alberta, Canada 👋 I buy bales in bulk for my pendants in an adorable heart shape in real silver - I work with resin, natural river rock & semi-precious stone, create art-stone (moulded cement), etc. Recently I began gluing on the bales and then using a topcoat of epoxy resin to make sure they’ll stay put. I love to do dog and cat paw prints & the footprints of local wildlife, so I find small flat stones, paint them with the designs and then attach the bale to the rock. You’ve given me the courage to do more with my resin - I just adore your videos!! ❤️

For the thin molds like these I think using a mold release before adding the resin is a big help. I’m not sure what you might be able to get down there, but maybe there’s something. Shipping restrictions can be a problem for some. I love ❤️ these!

I have this same silicone mold. It has a super smooth and shiny surface. When you build projects upside down you never have to add another layer of resin to create a shine. It cuts way down on extra steps. Building upwards like this project is great too because the backs have a very professional smooth finish. I first found this kind of mold at a baking shop. Amazon has a lot. I highly recommend them over any other type.

These look stunning! 😍💕 Fwiw, I use Finnabair Art Ingredients Opal Magic mica powders- I have the green and purple and they give a gorgeous milky opal hue if dusted lightly (a little goes a long way) so maybe instead of white alcohol ink for translucency? Just a theory, never tried it on resin before. 💖

You need a knock-off Nutri-Bullet, they come with 2 blades and one is a spice/coffee grinder. Quick pulses gives bigger pieces and long pulses gives nearly dust.

The second set definitely popped more. Do you use a mold release spray? It really helps with removal. I learned the hard way when I tore a couple molds. Yes, the s is silent in marquise (mar key).

In French nobility, the titles used were "Marquis" and "Marquise" pronounced "Mar-kee" (for a male) and "Mar-keese" (for a female). The Jewellery cut which she is referring to, is the female, Marquise, pronounced Mar Kees.

Yes if you shop for nail supplies. Not necessarily through Amazon. But through Madam glam. Born pretty etc. Oh actually AliExpress would be your best bet. Prices are much more reasonable.Tons of product. Madam Glam has excellent products but they can be very pricey. You can get much smaller where you're not having to do any cutting! They actually come in all sizes of chards from very fine to very large diamond shape etc. Hope this helps? (I do a lot of nail art) I'm assuming you're ONLY looking for CHARDS? for your opal pendants. Not Mica powders like you already have?

@sdw2248 3 года назад
Hey Julie....agreed, you mucked about too much with the 2nd set of 6 by stirring, etc. once you had poured the glitter paste. Additionally, I believe the glitter paste version would have turned out better if that had been poured 1st then black added on top, as is your traditional method. However, nothing ventured...nothing gained. You learned A LOT with the errors in this one and that is knowledge you can take away into other art adventures. Life never has mistakes....Life has choices and consequences that affect our future and teaches us how to make different choices from experiences. Never be afraid to share videos of failures or things that didn't work. Your experiences can teach others what did and didn't work. That is an invaluable life lesson!!!!!!

This is why I feel like this mold is too deep for things like this. Its way too thick for a pendant even if they didn't have the meniscus lip happening. Seriously - put your touch on it and mold the same thickness as your other pendant/keychain molds (hearts). We'd buy it in a heart beat! I'm sure of it

I still have the first faux opals I made using resin and iridescent flake back in 2012. I also made (still make) faux opals with polymer clay. Do you ever work with poly clay? Based on your videos I believe polymer clay is a medium you would enjoy working with. Almost everything I make with resin is accented with and/or finished with pc. My resin opals from 2012 are noticeably yellow but my poly clay opals haven't changed. Obviously clay will never be as translucent as resin but you can get close if you know what you're doing. Plus it doesn't turn into nonbiodegradable yellow crap after 10 years... just saying.

they are pretty! the shape is marquis (or pointed oval if talking about like a flat paper shape). wouldn't it be even prettier if they were dome facetted like the namesake gem cut, but that would probably be a difficult mold to make or expensive to buy.

Check out & search" Thinking Outside The Box" Video: UV resin tutorial for making dicromic pendants. I personally don't care for the antique style of pendants. But the results for the opals are amazing.. love your pendants very pretty. If you use gel top coat you would get 5x the shine. But you do need to cure it with a UV light.
