Thats a cool project Justin. re : the the tank circuit, im guessing you tapped 40m on the 9th or 10 turn,(trying to count the turns like 26? so 80m is at 26th turn ? sorry could not see the link . hehe..anyway i found the 40m band on 7.2mH and 80 (3.7mhz) at 13.6 uH , but of course it will differ a bit with ht voltage applied. 1.830 Mhz at 26.6 uH at 2400v for me.
Hi Justin, another professional looking homebrew project, great stuff. Is that an FT243 crystal your using? Wonder if you may know of a source for a plug in FT243 crystal chassis sockets in the UK? I can only find these outside the UK and seem very expensive. Looking forward to more of your radio projects. 73 de M0DAD David
Hi David, yes they are FT243 crystals but only as far as the case.. they have an HC49/50 crystal inside. I got my socket from a guy in the US. He used to sell loads of crystals in various sizes .. a lot were hc49’s in FT243 cases. There was a link to his website on the Quartzlab site but when I tried it the other day seems it wasn’t available
@@thewtf Thanks for the reply Justin, I know AF4K supplies them but are very expensive getting them back to the UK. I know an octal valve base can be wired so an FT- 243 crystal can be plugged into any two alternate pins but don`t look as nice as a dedicated two hole chassis socket. I have a couple of 3.615 mhz crystals ready to put inside FT-243 holders. I shall continue searching. Thanks de M0DAD David 73
Original and interesting project. The chirp on 80 is not really acceptable, I built a slightly chirpy and drifty free running 40m CW QRP think a while back it moved a few 100Hz, and everyone who heard it commented. Great fun! I just don't trust myself with HT like that 😥💣💥🤪☻💀☠
