What? Beautiful cars, but I dont get why they are so slow? Have you not even chip tuned them? Ive owned a few jettas with the 12 v and 24 v. I had a bora with full borla exhaust. These cars are MONSTERS. 24 v is better, and 12 valve is good too. Technically a variant of the v6, with the firing pattern of an inline 6. So it doesnt deal with counter weight problems and balancing issues. With a simple ecu tune, these engines will run side by side with v8's all day long. With the right tune, they can put down some torque! I'm talking instant, put you in your seat, your not leaning forward till I let off the gas, torque. Like, this isn't even boosted, but who turned on launch control. Ive done it, I "raced" a 4g63 turbo evo, and it was neck and neck. Thats just my .02 cents.
Just got my Golf a few days ago! 2001 Golf GTI GLX (12V 5 speed) and replaced the fuel filter and the spark plugs and took off the suitcase muffler and left on the smaller muffler right after the cat, my friend compared it to his uncles Armytrix GTR and says it sounds just as good but still legal (i live in cali, exhsust law rapes us) it snaps crackles and pops, 4 grand with 146k on it
Jonathan Suhy The smaller muffler you reffered too is called the resonator, and that is what makes it sound good, aside from being a vr6. If you alter the exhaust at all, you will trade bottom end torque for top end speed. A full borla exhaust is the way to go. Ive had a few jettas, both 12v and 24v, with and without the borla exhaust. BORLA IS KING. Vr6 is the best 6 cylinder, 12v is good, but 24v is good. The r32 is god, its just a variation of the vr6. Beautiful cars btw.
@@foxmulder216 thanks for enlightening me on it, i now know thats the resonator, well, full suitcase delete sounds AMAZING for now, im just 17, no job until i finish high school so this was a free mod, only needed my sawzall and it worked out perfectly, im guessing losing that back pressure from the muffler isn't bad for my 12v then? Or should i get it tuned to run differently at some point so nothing goes wrong?
Jonathan Suhy ive done exactly that many times brother, cutting off the muffler wont effect it too much. Its when you start modifying the exhaust closer to the engine. See alot of people have a misconception that engines need back pressure, thats kind of right. What's needed is for the exhaust gases, to be able to exit the engine and travel down the exhaust, THE FASTEST MOST EFFICIENT WAY. Some people will just throw in a bigger diameter pipe and get mad when it doesnt improve performance. If you hold your finger over the tip of a garden hose while its running, your finger will make the water spray faster and further, its the same thing with the exhaust. Just because you get a bigger hose, doesnt mean the water is coming out any faster, see what I mean. So if you do ever want to modify the exhaust to a further extent, IN MY OPINION, just cutting out the cats and replacing them with whats called a "test pipe", basically just a pipe with flanges that can be bolted in place of the cat, is not efficient. I would get a smaller diameter pipe, and run it from the manifold downpipe(s) to the resonator, and then what ever muffler you want. Ive cut cats out of cars because they were clogged and effected performance, only to find the lack of "back pressure" volumetric flow, was robbing all my low end torque. For now, your good with the muffler delete. But I wouldnt touch anything else until I had enough money for a full exhaust, preferably a borla. Also, when you do get the money, find a tuner, (someone that knows the vr6 engine well) and they can tune it to change the shift points, eliminate governor, and a few other things and it will make that car LAUNCH! My tuned 24v vr6 would eat corvettes and evos all day, and that's without a turbo or super charger! Now the ultimate setup, would be the r32 vr6, in an audi b5 a4 quattro, because the Quattro is all wheel drive. 1 guy did it on RU-vid with a 12v vr6 and IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
Agreed. I have a mk4 12v with that exact exhaust (TT 2.5 to Borla muffler) and it sounds mean. U couldn't even hear the 24v with that same setup. 12v def do sound better
