Farmer P I like your style, very interesting. You do what you want to do... here's what I'd do. Save myself a bit of dosh, trade in what I have for a more comfortable, powerful second hand tractor. With the money saved I'd treat the family, go on holiday, upgrade my car/jeep, then in the evening I'd have a few beers, planning the days ahead while looking at my new TV...& live happily ever after 😄

As one who repaired tractors years ago, before all these black boxes were common place, I thoroughly enjoy your efforts in making videos and reviewing machines. These folks that object, presumably only use one car dealership when agreeing to their second biggest purchase other than their house. That aside, 50k sounds a bit much for a new set of tyres. Two or three hours spent working by a vehicle detailer would make your 18 year old tractor look just as good and virtually identical to the new one. Although a bright shiny new machine may be very appealing, I believe that a more powerful proven second hand tractor, that has had it's teething problems sorted out, must be the way to go. How expensive is front linkage these days. How often do you use it?? Your low hours tractor has handled the job up to present, so a extra used tractor gives you a back up machine and less financial outlay and angst.
@TheByard
@TheByard 2 года назад
Rob, Could the front of Ian's tractor be upgraded with suspension and maybe something done with the seat for a more comfortable ride, maybe different tyres. Back in the day I drove an MG Magnette and just changing to Pirellis tyres improved the ride and the stopping distance and what a cost effective way to go as I needed new tyres anyway.

Keep doing the reviews Ian, I throughly enjoy watching them. I think it comes down to if New Holland can come down with abit of wiggle room with additional extras. You throughly enjoy it but again if you can save abit money looking for another Case with cab suspension and axle suspension. But then the second hand market is still overpriced and how well has it been maintained etc. it’s a tough decision.

Don’t stop now,keep us informed, I thought for sure you would want the case because you could use a lot of your equipment on the new, but the way you put it, I’m with you, let’s keep shopping and think about the blue and the sassy massy, liked the hood and looks of the massy. Take us along, come on kobota - I don’t even know how to spell that one.

Definitely NOT getting bored of you reviewing tractors, I understand why farmers go through details to get right tractor. I would say maybe McCormick or Deutz Fahr try out. But at end of the day tractor needs be more efficient, better productivity to justify buying new. As we age we looking at comfort but also easy servicing weather pre checking fluids or hooking hydraulics or washing windows.

What would I do - from listening to you over the past few weeks - you do always go back to the New Holland (which at the end of the day ur just picking perfection) - if you are going to look to replace, give Marley a call and tell him - you want a deal - get me interest free for 5 years. Its amazing what sales people will do if they know they have a deal at the end of it - and if he can’t, then well like you say you stick with the current Case. Finally - those who say the review videos are boring, well IMO let them go elsewhere - ur channel is a farming channel, and picking a new tractor is part of farming and isn’t something a farmer takes likely. Videos are great - keep them coming!!

Here's an idea..... Spend a few quid on a newer style seat and then add a few ponies to help with your tillage situation with a tune up, there's plenty available in the way of diesel performance upgrades nowadays and without breaking the bank, maybe worth looking into maybe not

Farmer P, with comfort being the main factor have you considered having a cab suspension kit fitted to your Case? Check out Superglide Suspension kits for example. Replacement of the original seat to a modern electric air suspension unit and an engine remap for more power would leave a lot of change out of 50k, could get some more sheep!!!!

Hi Ian, The reason I tune into your channel is your a family farmer and remind me of my visits to my uncles farm as a school kid. I must admit some parts interest me more than others and I can FF through them. But they do show life on a family farm, watching you feed the animals every day would become boring to some as would going round and round a field all day, but that's farming and buying a very expensive bit of kit that will take years to pay off is a big gamble. You turn out one video per day and not all other channels do that, so those that don't like an episode don't have long too wait for the next. Now I can't wait to see another cattle using the back scratcher and wrecking the heap in the field video. The dogs working the sheep a bit of drainage or barn building. But I know they don't happen every day, week or month. I also look at the other farming channels around the world though having lived many years in Gloucestershire I do feel I know the lay of their land. Did a lot of work with farmers around Lydney and the Forest, so it's a bit like going home. Will be visiting UK next spring time and would love to call by and show my appreciation in some way, buy some cakes, maybe a meat pack if available, have a walk around or a ride out. My sister lives on the outskirts of Stroud, so will be nearby.

With the low annual hours you do I think I would look at a seat upgrade until you can find a suitable second hand replacement. Your farm and yard workhorse seems to be the skidsteer, usage wise I would be looking at a newer replacement for that. The reviews have been informative, George Saunders has just done one on the NH T5 and like you he really rates it, especially the transmission and torque it produces. Good luck with the Kubota ,I know the NH rep was sceptical but they're good tractors have been impressed with the two I have driven.

I’ll never be in the market for a tractor, but I love the reviews. Changing tractor is very much like changing your car. Why do it? Because shiny, because new, because better tech. The car you have still works, but you still want to change it. You have additional, valid reasons for changing - personal comfort and the future of the business. You can’t use your head for every decision. Life would be boring. If it was my money, I still think the NH is the one I’d have (right balance of tech and comfort, gearbox is sweet, overall ease of operation), and if there is an adaptor plate you can get to mount the elephant’s trunk bale grab (and the other skid steer tools) on the quick change system of the loader, then I wouldn’t be able to stop myself.
@papag1001
@papag1001 2 года назад
I also favored the New Holland, especially with the front loader, makes it so much easier when loading out Hay Bales, and you don't have to use 2 people! sounds like its worth the little more pounds!

Keep going with reviews Ian, if people don't won't to watch them as you say they can watch something else. I personally think you could go for the cheaper new second hand tractor with more power and comfort, you obviously have a fondness for your little case so buying a second hand one and keeping your case you've got the best of both worlds and a little extra change in your pocket.

I really think that how a trailer looks when being pulled by a tractor doesn't matter (or any other tool). Why care about "looks" and not how it do the job.... But very good point about, the 50K punds in debt so you can't do anything else on the farm. Maybe that 50K is better spent doing the other (maybe more important) upgrades to the farm....

Genuinely think you’d like an X5 or X6 McCormick, they’re underrated, very popular here in Leicestershire, they’ve developed their own style and they’re very nice tractors now, used market is always worth a look too, love my MC135, bought this year and been bulletproof so far, front suspension and an air seat, 135hp and a lot less cost than to change to new which unless you’re spending silly money haven’t moved on too much

We might see a reasonable second-hand one appear which would be better and you haven't tide everything into a new one. If you can keep the mxu in time you might need to sell it for an investment or trade it in for another piece of equipment. I can see what you are trying to do and that is to sell your Mxu as it's still is reasonable and before it starts costing you more money .

The reviews are not boring in my opinion. I still think the John Deere 6120M is worth a ponder. If l was in your position, there are two main things to consider and those are; 1, New or used? If new, budget and deal. If used budget and condition. 2, Value for money. If new, will the tractor be that much better on every way than your old one and pay for itself? If used, will the additional tractor be everything you need, be reliable and pay for itself? Buying an additional used tractor gives you flexibility in resources and back up. I would buy a really good used tractor.
