I have to say that I haven't watched the hole Video 😃 but first thing I realised was the intro. Just some constructive criticism: keep that out of your videos😃 I'll give a tip go over to the YT Channel 'Nick Nimmin' he's a great guy and got lots of YT channel growth tips 😃😃 Have a great day😃👍

Irish Craftsman G'day Jed, it's a good machine but the brand is only in Australia mate, the style of machine is similar to the brands you have in the states 👍👍

great review mate i bought a similar model 12 1/2 inch years ago in the old fox studios where thy used to have woodworking shows from a carbatech stall and has been a brilliant machine over the years but recently the crank handle has broken in the down position and i was wondering if you could recommend any place i can buy a new one in sydney any advice wuld be much appreciated
@sumosprojects

Hi Robert, I believe Carbatec sell there own version of this in Sydney or you can get a Timbecon model shipped up from Melbourne mate. Timbecon have sales at times so keep your eyes open for that 🍻👍👍👍🇦🇺

@@sumosprojects Hi sumo i have a makita but i was thinking of buying a sherwood heligcal head.i know i have spelled that word wrong.Sumo what is spriel head difference to a heligcal head?.Hey sumo i like your video on visiting timbercon that was great.
@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 4 года назад
G’day Shane, sorry for late reply mate, the helical head is ok & I have one now which I’m maybe selling as I want to get a full spiral head & they are the best idea, perhaps a bit more expensive however the lifetime of the cutter bits way exceeds anything on the market. Save your pennies & aim for a spiral helical head instead of the segmented one 🍻👍👍👍

Is there any snipe with the thicknesser Sumo
@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 7 лет назад
ralphd snipe with all of them mate, lifting the piece up on outfeed near the end of cut helps eliminate most of it, I learnt that watching RU-vid 😂😂😂👍👍👍
@ralphd4581
@ralphd4581 7 лет назад
I use a 24mm ply bed in the thicknesser which has pretty much eliminated snipe feeding in but still get a little on exit
@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 7 лет назад
ralphd I've seen that as well Ralph, you'd think manufacturers would of addressed this issue by now & have a built in feature, I've got a combo jointer/Thicknesser & same story mate, we gotta go with the best option of elimination we can
@petermcguigan8802
@petermcguigan8802 3 года назад
I have just started using my Sherwood when something went clonk, and now the feed rollers have locked, could a chip of wood got in there and jammed it? How do I free them up again. I was only doing very shallow cuts as you do when using something brand new
@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 3 года назад
Did you get the adaptor for the dust port out of the back storage area, I found mine late & hence why I mentioned about the dust collection. Let me know mate & I’ll refer it onto Timbecon
@petermcguigan8802
@petermcguigan8802 3 года назад
@@sumosprojects Thank you for your response Sumo - Yes the dust port adaptor is on the end of the flute (have an extraction hose in it and I checked to be sure its all clear) However one of the magnets is missing from its resting place on top of the cowling at the back above the cutter bar though I cant see how it would end up amongst the workings
@zaneh6224
@zaneh6224 5 лет назад
The thing I don't like about this thicknesser is the use of the rectangular cutters, these are a specialised cutter unlike the universal square cutters in a lot of other machines, plus you only get two sides instead of four sides to the square type, and being rectangular they cannot be arranged in the superior spiral pattern, other than that looks like a great machine.
@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 5 лет назад
Valid points you make Zane, it’s in the similar realms of all thickness planers at this price on the market mate but in Australia we tend to at times play a little catch up to what our American cousins have to select from, I personally have had good usage from this machine but I understand your point of view as well, it seems that once we look toward heavier duty machinery at a price we see inclusive better components, cheers for your feedback mate 👍👍👍
@zaneh6224
@zaneh6224 5 лет назад
@@sumosprojects Yeah agree, the Carbatec entry level machine also has 2 sided square cutters and arranged in straight formation, I think this is unfortunately a way of getting you when you need to replace them as these cost more $$$, the Hare & Forbes has a spiral cutter but the machine looks flimsy, personally I think the Sherwood is the better built machine of them all, and definitely miles ahead of any 2 / 3 knife planer such as the DeWalt or Makita, I love my Sherwood cast-iron router table, they do make some nice quality machines
@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 5 лет назад
Sherwood have a black range being released mate that looks very nice, a bit more expensive but seem like a one time quality for life purchase, have you seen the bandsaws ?
@zaneh6224
@zaneh6224 5 лет назад
@@sumosprojects Yes, I saw the advertising for the Black Series, unfortunately I am in Sydney and Timbecon don't have a showroom to go see the quality of them, would be good for them to open in Sydney their service is great and they stock heaps of good stuff..

@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 4 года назад
Good onya Paul, I’m glad you got something from my review mate & they come on sale a couple of times a year. The replacement blades are a bit expensive but they last quite a long time especially on softer woods 🍻🍻👍👍👍👍
@paulguinane3076
@paulguinane3076 4 года назад
Trading off cost and time. The blades and weighted base seem to be the only difference between the two sub $1k models but from what I can workout is that resharpening time is more than doubled.
@sumosprojects
@sumosprojects 4 года назад
I must admit that the granite base in mine adds a positive appeal & like you mentioned it’s sometimes cost versus the time down especially if you’re wanting to get work out Paul, I’d love a 20” cast iron monster but my finances say no to that so we manage with what we have. Happy days Paul & I hope you have great success with your purchase mate 🍻👍👍👍👍
