I decided to stay close to home today and draw some of the houses at the top of the high street. Royston goes crazy for its blue plaques. (For those outside of the UK, blue plaques are small, round plaques attached to buildings that describe individuals or events of historical note associated with that building.) One of the houses in the picture bears a blue plaque because it was home to Lord Mounteagle and was where he received a letter warning him of the Gunpowder Plot.
This quick sketch uses the method and style of Ian Fennelly, who you must check out if you haven't already. He's a lovely chap with a great art style and he has plenty of videos on RU-vid and on his own site that show you how to emulate him.

Thank you for video and bit of history, im with your struggle about the brown vegetation we finally received a huge two day slow moving rain storm and our ground needed it so bad...i cant wait for winter and snow...lol yes im a northern mom live near Canada and usa border not use to lack of rain or excessive heat like weve gotten in the last 10 yrs....i think i can sketch your area you showed us via video area in my sketch book from your video, thank you so much for the mini history of area, i really enjoy learning about your country and follow a few artists on ytube and sherpa(hes a huskey and with owner they travel to scotland ireland thru out britian giving great views a bit of history) touring videos cause im pretty sure i' ll never win the lottery to be be able to be a world travel but the art community and the great artist ytubers has literally help me expand my global understanding, forever gratefully to have chance to learn about new countries and their history...i did rember that tidbit of your parliment almost being attacked from my highschool history classes its been over 30 yrs...lol.my history teacher would be proud..lol....i also like watching your painting it looks lovely. Im only in my third year of watercoloring and learning all about things that feed off of it brushes sketching, and books wcp, gouache, the learning info seems daughting but atleast i can learn at my pace and interpret my style of wcp and gouache pt and other art medians versus having to be just limited to certain type ( ytube is a huge helpful resource)just trying to find whats my favorite tho is hard theres so many to try out, as im a bit older in body not spirit tho i need many reinforcing teaching videos and theres so many lovely art supplies id like to try but budget wise you understand im sure itd be easy to become a art hoarder if i was a lottery winner, altho i know there r quite a few i dont like...lol.....mikelle art mom👩‍🎨✍🎨

Thank you for your comment. Having only just seen the comment, it's given me an interesting moment of reflection back on how the weather was in the UK in August. Especially now in winter having last month had some of the deepest snow and longest subzero (celsius) stretch of day in quite a few years. Much of what had died back has since recovered in the interim. (Though I do appreciate what passes for cold here is nothing compared to Canada/northern US. I feel like you all would laugh at us if you knew how poorly the UK handles even the slightest bit of snow!)
