Heres some history for you: Bulgaria used to speak greek in the past, but they found out that as slavic people, greek wasnt that easy for them to speak fluently. So they took the greek alphabet and modified it so that theres more slavic sounds, and that slowly evolved into the current slavic languages like russian.
