I used to watch Mummies Alive along with Extreme Ghostbusters as part of a weekday morning block of cartoons on Sci Fi. I even had a few of the action figures.
@@BlessedVeteranAdventures Gargoyles is magnificent but it was wholly recognized as magnificent by people then and now and so its on a different list. It was the show that had *children* loudly arguing about Shakespeare.
You goofed on the character names on Swat Kats. The character names are Jake Clawson, and Chance Furlong, and their alter egos are named T-bone and Razor

NO it shouldn't have. Let me explain something to you. You know how a lot of shows have 5 seasons and then the 6th is divided into parts 1 and 2 instead of just making season 7 i.e. the Sopranos. The reason for that is because of licensing and actor contracts. Structurally Gargoyles is *EXACTALY* 6 seasons long with 13 episodes per season. It's just that season 2 happened to have 52 episodes where the other ones only had 13. They knew Exactly what they where doing when they made Gargoyles and it has a very cohesive structure and season 6 (I mean 3) had a really good ending where it's implied heavily that Goliath and Eliza start to date Then we asked for more and got the god awful Goliath Chronicles Also if you want another good season just read the comics
@@TotalTech2. there were a couple of storylines that were never finished. We never fully learned what happened to Cold Stone, Cold Fire and Cold Steel. I always wanted another episode about Goliath’s Rockery brother.
@@biguy617 Glad you bought that up. The reason for that is because it was ordered from the higher ups that there had to be enough ambiguity left at the end in order to 'continue' the series on Disney. It's the same reason they don't Really solidify the fact that Goliath and Eliza where together because while the series for all intents and purposes should have and did end there the Disney overlords need a few loose threads to milk the property more
@Based Kaiser Honestly I believe Weisman was always political and socially conscious, I can tell that just from watching Gargoyles. If anything, the times of the 90's wouldn't allow him to present his narratives to their full capacity. I don't know how old you are, but I am assuming you watched Gargoyles as a kid so you were probably oblivious to a lot of the social and/or political commentary at that time. Go back and watch it as an adult and you'll see. As for Young Justice, it is socially and politically heavy but it doesn't really bother me and still serves as an escape from the rigors of life for me...🤷🏾♂️

Exosquad was one of my favorite shows and no one seems to remember it. With elements lifted directly from Robotech/Macross, and covering complicated social issues, it was a definite winner.
I used to get up at 6:30 am every school day, to watch Exo-Squad, because it was slotted in at the butt-crack of dawn in my area. But I remember tuning in for every episode. Too bad it never got a conclusion.
The Pirates of Dark Water used to be on Cartoon Network when I was a kid, loved it. And Swat Kats is my all-time favourite show, I still watch it every now and then.
SWAT KATS: Radical Squadron had to be the most violent kids show ever aired (in terms of civilian casualties) and I loved every second of it as a kid. I actually got to ask the show’s creators during a convention panel why it got canceled and they explained that it technically wasn’t. What happened was the higher ups, either at Hanna-Barbera or Turner Broadcasting, refused to let them sell merchandise (which is how all kids shows got their funding back in the day). The toys sold really well, they just weren’t allowed make any more.
Swat kats was on when me and my friends was getting into ttrpgs and me and my best friend made the junk yard dogs (dog versions of swat kats) in heroes unlimited
@reapersritehand Swat dogs lol. Only reason it was Kats is because of the f14 tomcat air superiority plane. Just the plane had 3 engines and almost looked like a f15/f14 mix. Idk i really enjoyed that show and Ole Ted turner fucked that up for us. But swat dogs was probably the better name technically saying. Since they got into dog fights lol
When I was a kid I remember watching the one with those giant goo-things eat a subway car. I remember thinking "Wait, so are all those people dead?!" Big thought for little me
@@Erika-ko4gb And don't forget the body horror scene when Doctor Viper created those goo monsters by horribly mutating a guy who literally had a second pair of eyes in the back of his head.
I had completely forgotten that series existed, but then seeing it on this list and the character designs, the memory of "Oh yes, I DID watch that as a kid!" hit me like a brick!
Jonny Quest is missing from the list. The 60s series was a game changer and the potential the 90s rebooted series had is undeniable. Also, the episodes made in the 80s were there, i guess.
What bothers me the most that a lot of these shows left us without any kind of closure, or left things unanswered, specially when it comes to possible couples (like Baloo and Rebeca's relation ect.).
Pirates of Dark Waters ❤❤❤ when I worked at a comic store, I found their comic series (to which I bought the only copies) but who else knew that show had comics?!
You guys forgot one of the most underrated and short-lived animated shows of the 90's: Bucky O'Hare And The Toad Wars. An no mention of Exo-Squad?!! However you mentioned Cybersix, which I had never heard of before and am now determined to find.
I'll give you the cartoons, but Marvel and G.I. Joe has put out some awesome figures over the last 6-7 years. And like you said, Transformers have had some great figures this year and last.
I think you could've also added Todd McFarlane Spawn (1997-99) and W.I.L.D.C.A.T.S (1994). Both pretty good series. Spawn was dark like it was supposed to be but hit on all sorts of topics. Drug dealers , child abuse and other topics. W.I.L.D.C.A.T.S was like a upgraded X Men series on steroids . Awesome cool effects, and heros fighting off ancient alien warriors.
Spawn is my newest favorite 90s adult cartoon. It’s like Batman:TAS but with a gritty realism that Batman by constitution, can’t achieve. Violence, s3x, and b00bies
I see Biker Mice from Mars and Swat Kats in the thumbnail. If only you had Road Rovers in there to complete the 90’s TMNT Inspired Anthro Cartoon Trinity ;3
Loved Swat Kats, surprised you didnt mention how their fighter jet is based on the real F-14 Tomcat. The creators of the show even went out of their way to make the cockpit of the turbocat fighter jet look exactly how the real tomcat jet looked, you just dont get that sort of attention to detail these days.
I loved these shows, I never miss the episodes of some series, or at least watch some of the others. Pirates of Dark Water needs to be brought back for sure.
Oh my gods, dude you manage to revive my entire childhood in one video! And it's glorious! Tail Spin, Biker Mice From Mars, Street Fighter, Sherlock Holms, Jumanji, Pirates of Dark Water, these where my Saturday morning cartoons.
Originally, *Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century* was a spinoff of Filmation's *Bravestarr* series. How do I know this? There's a two-part episode that went by that title.
Have you ever done a deep dive into that cult Canadian kid's TV show from 1992-1994, The Odyssey? It's 3 seasons of the dreamlike, sometimes bizarre adventures of the young 11-year old Jay Zeigler who goes into a coma after falling from a tree fort and hitting his head, and into a quest in both realities to find his missing, presumed dead, Father. I loved it as a kid, and still re-watch it now!
Growing up in the late 80s early 90s we easily had the best cartoons and movie and video games so much so that my wife and I decided to have are kids grow up watching the same shows movies and playing the same systems we grew up with so they understand how amazing it was growing up in the 90s :) Anyone remember street sharks loved that show lol
The thing I remember most about Cyber 6, the fact that it premiered alongside Escaflowne lol. Awww, yeah I remember Tailspin, it was so popular at the time that it did get incorporated into Disney Land. On the Train that travels all over the park, you would hear Baloo and Kit talking from Frontier Land to Fantasy Land. And there was a show in Fantasy Land that had chars from Tailspin, Rescue Rangers, and Ducktales in it and it was a musical show. 9-year old me loved it lol.
I loved Xtreme Dinosaurs and Street Sharks so much. Also LOVED anything that was animated Street Fighter. I didn't really get to see this cartoon but I do vaguely remember there being animated movies or a series that was darker, always on late at night on HBO or Starz and I wanted to watch it from beginning to end so bad.
I didn't think that Talespin was underrated, now Pirates of Dark Water is underrated and it was left unresolved. Street Fighter the Animated Series had that feel and tone of G.I. Joe from the 1980s and it came out the same time as Darkstalkers all because of the success of Mega Man from 1994. I know some cartoons that underrated, Piggsburg Pigs as well as Gravesdale High, Darkstalkers, and of course Monster Force which came out alongside with Season 2 of ExoSquad and should have been used as the base for Universal's Dark Universe as well.
The only thing I remember about the Pirates of Dark water is that the monkey-bird "Niddler" was a complete junkie for pomegranates and minga-melons (kinda like watermelon). I really only recall that because I remember begging my mom to buy me one (pomegranate) so I could see what the fruit tasted like. Btw..... tasted amazing. Niddler knew what he was talking about!
This has to be one of the biggest nostalgia trip ever. I remember watching almost all of these shows as a kid and love majority of them. Shame they don't get some good reboots.
I think it's a bot doing the voice over. It also seems to have trouble with other certain words and it pronounces Maurice LaMarche as "Morris Lamarsh". Most of these listicle channels have bots doing the voice overs, but they're often fairly convincing.
Regarding Nathan Fillian, a lot of us were introduced to him as Caleb the Servant in season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was before Firefly. 😉 Also, Pirates of Dark Water was one of my absolute FAVOURITE cartoon series of all time. And the Jumanji art style seems to have influenced the Nickelodeon series The Wild Thornberry's.
Except, you're entirely wrong. Firefly aired from September of 2002 until December of 2002 before it was cancelled with the remaining episodes never airing at that time, and Fillion's Caleb did not appear on Buffy until April of 2003 for the series' final 5 episodes. Fillion was very much given the role of Caleb as a consolation after Firefly's cancellation.
Tail Spin was epic and also a surprise that despite how many episodes there are it only lasted one single season. Pirates of Dark Waters was also a childhood fav. I also remember waking up and sitting with my dad on Saturday mornings watching Biker Mice from Mars
I had all the action figures and motorcycles of biker mice. I absolutely loved that show. Also Cadillac and Dinosaurs was my favourite arcade game back in my day
I remember watching Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys back in the 90s when I was very young as the series broadcast on CITV, I really wished the seris is finally released onto complete DVD just like Road Rovers, Mummies Alive, Street Sharks and Extreme Dinosaurs.
I was a kid in the 90s and saw most of this cartoons, I agree with many and I loved so many series like TalesSpin that was a great and beautiful cartoon, I cried so much when they canceled the series and I draw and created my own adventures to continue the story.
Biker Mice from Mars was one of Ian Ziering's first voice acting Vinnie was the man or should i say mouse lol that i fell in love with as a kid the other was Wildwing Flashblade the team captain in Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series and i'm surprised that this show didn't make the list as it only lasted one season and ended on such a cliffhanger
Biker Mice from Mars had a revival series in the 2000's --it was pretty cool as it wasn't a reboot, it was a continuation of the first series storyline. Would love a third series to come out.
Great list man. Nostalgia overload. My favorite was Exo Squad. I had lots of the toys when I was a kid and recently started watching it again with my son and he loves it too. It was so good, almost structured like an anime with it's continuous ongoing plot and heavy social themes. The characters were awesome too. Gonna hunt down some of the figures I had when I was a kid.
This is a good list, Captain Simian & the Space Monkeys, Biker Mice From Mars, Bucky O'Hare, Double Dragon and too many cartoons did not have long enough. I'm glad Biker Mice had a follow up series. It's a shame some of the others haven't been revisted.
I think Monster Force is another forgotten, underrated show that deserves a nod too. The animation and character designs were awful. But the story, background music, voice acting, and just overall atmosphere were quite good. It was more mature than it appeared on the surface. And this coming from a life long anime fan! Speaking of anime, the 90's was not really the period when anime began to make a huge mark on the West. Maybe in North America and other English speaking countries. But anime was already pretty big in Europe (outside UK and Ireland) since at least the 80's.
If some of these shows sound cheesy, keep this in mind: some of them were made simply to compete with the original animated ratings titans like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Captain Planet, X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman The Animated Series amongst many others. Some were very well done but couldn't keep up in the ratings race or were a total money blackhole for animation studios that were already struggling to stay afloat financially.
This is amazing!! I had forgotten most of these shows to be honest but I use to love them as a kid in the 90's!! Thank you so much for bringing back all these incredible memories!! Btw I was a kid in the 90's in Brazil, and watched all these shows as well, go figure 😄
I really miss ExoSquad and Xtreme Ghostbusters, both had awesome stories and diverse, deep, casts of characters. Few shows made me think as deeply as those. I liked Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars too, though it was no where near the same quality. I actually watched as many cartoons and anime as I could, up until it all moved to cable and the regular tv blocks died out. It really makes me sad that shows are so consistently locked behind paywalls nowadays. I feel bad for kids that live below the poverty line and don't have the opportunity to enjoy these shows like we did; but I suppose that's what books and playing outside (~shudders~) is for...
I kind of outgrew watching cartoons in the early 2000s but Invader Zim was that one show I absolutely loved that kept me watching Nickelodeon for a bit. That show was so short lived. My guess it's because they felt it was too dark and edgy or it being too expensive.
Cool. Most of these I have never seen. Also there is more made as the 90’s had so many creative shows that never progressed and had animators really explore their creativity
I don't remember some of these, but I loved Captain Simian, Biker Mice and Pirates of Darkwater. I was getting a little old in the late 90's so missed some of these.
Another Dino show i feel should be on here is Dino Riders. It had a bit of a human animation style feel to it, but with a technology versus nature and free will vibe, like dinotopia and catalogs and dinosaurs. But at the same time featuring the voice talents of a lot of the main voice actors from transformers, like Chris Calata, Dan gilvezan, and Peter cullen.
12:04 this is one of many things i miss about cartoons; that certain art style. This type of art style is such eye candy to me (this is especially present in 2000's shows)
I wished other of my childhood cartoon favourites from the 90s like Biker Mice From Mars, Space Cats, Creepy Crawlers, Super Dave, Hammerman, The Adventure of Hyperman, Blazing Dragons, Cowboys of Moo Mesa, The Addams Family, Albert the Fifth Muskeeter, Santo Bugito, Iznogoud, Walter Melon, and captain simian and the space monkeys were finally released onto complete DVD at last just like Swat Kats.
