If you live through the trek, without debilitating injury or illness, you succeeded. I used to backpack with a guy that was ALWAYS borrowing. Anything from food to tweezers, to whatever. I stopped hiking with him. He wanted a light pack. He didn;t forget like John did. Makes for some awkward moments. Blessings all.
This was an emotional roller coster! When Jon realised he forgot his food my heart sank. Then watching you guys get through it all was great. Keep it coming, great stuff!
Just wow, can’t wait to see the rest of this adventure. Xander you are a beautiful soul, positive and that killer smile. Man the challenges right off the hop, however, you kept it light and truly just made the best of it. I especially liked the clip about you eyeing Jon as food. I felt his pain when he realized he forgot his food.
Was only going to watch the first 5 minutes and save the rest for tomorrow, but there wasn't a single moment to break away from that. I was either laughing, or speechless that entire video. Absolutely cannot wait for the next.
Its cute how you and John have a couple of matching outfits. Looking forward to the BFF bracelets. Also must be nice to catch a brook trout and get to eat it...
Wow what a wonderful adventure and true friendship I can feel the love! Thank you for sharing your time in the wilderness I would have loved to be in on it in my younger days!
Hey, don't feel bad Man, as long as no one was hurt. Many times you have to make mistakes to learn. The only REAL mistakes are the ones we don't learn from. Cheers & safe paddling.
The Voyageurs made their first camp a short distance from their base so that any important items forgotten could easily be retrieved by a man sent back for them. Can not recall the French Canadian term nor the book mentioning this strategy, but camping the night before a trip in the back yard would easily have reminded Lost Lakes John about the missing freezer items.
I have an old friend that I have fished with all my life. We are just on the same frequency. Our friends say we could have an adventure in a parking lot. My wife says you two remind her of my friend and I. It is rare to be able to capture that. It must be satisfying to see it come to life. As a member of the viewing family, I look forward to each new trip. Jon is such a perfectionist and you are the butterfly. That usually doesn't work. When it does, it is magic and comical. I'm glad he taught you to fish. As for paddling, it appears he is a bit of a slow, and forgetful student. Too bad you didn't win the hammock. I didn't either. lol
It would absolutely be a dream to be able to do a trip like that. I live in Florida and camp on islands and salt water fish in our river but its a different world up there. Great content guys thank you for sharing it with us.
Found your channel via Jon’s channel- this is so interesting to watch so very real, it’s great to see Jon really gaining confidence on the river rapids and so informative as to how actually dangerous and how skilled you need to be. Great watch guys
watching this epic adventure the interaction of the 2 of you every single second brings joy to my life it's as simple as that the very best to you both, always
Dude I love your videos! You are so good in capturing that sense of adventure and us humans being a small part of the ecosystem we’re surrounded by. Keep it up and I wish you all the best!
Brooooo I’ve been waiting for you to post this trip. I love watching your channel man. I wanna go on a trip with you one day, I’m sure it’ll be unforgettable!!!
What an epic adventure! You guys have such a dynamic chemistry. It's fun to watch you guys adventure together. Bravo on pushing forward! Cheers to the both you!
Jon to dispatched Brook Trout: "Thanks buddy, thank you... I always find they're one of the hardest fish to dispatch because they are just so beautif... Xander: "...oh I broke its head off!" 🤣🤣🤣
"I am survivalist now, apparently" - well done, Jon! :D Laughed my ass off. Great video, as usual. Thanks Xander, thanks Jon! (by the way, great to see you both in helmets. Thanks guys)
Hey bud, digging the river content. If you love it enough, a lot of the struggles are just the nature of using a flatwater canoe on rapids. Yes they can handle it but some sort of crossover might be the move at some point. Look up the Dagger Katana, I think that boat would be killer for a trip like this.
Man!! I've watch a bunch of canoe videos, but this one had my heart racing. What an adventure. I was totally into to it. Looking for the line, choosing my route. I felt so bad for Jon. My biggest fear is forgetting something. I make lists. Waiting for part 2.
as a Minnesotan youtuber who is FINALLY getting into camping I'm always inspired by your videos!! i'm supposed to be going to bed for work yet here i am :)
"Harry potter the boy who lived" ahahah that got me laughing so hard xD Keep doing you buddy. I love that you split the videos, it works great because thats what you wanted to do. Thanks.
J: Oh $@&#, I left all my dehydrated food at home in the freezer! X: Don’t worry, just think of all the good meals you can have when you get home, eh, (if we get out of this alive). Great episode! Thanks
It is almost like you want to take a machete with you to chop the low branches out of your way. I'm sure it wouldn't really work, especially if you are in the middle of the rapids, but Wow, those are some close calls to the face. Obviously you guys made it, so glad it went well. You were in Lake Superior? I've been there but by Minnesota area. Cool. Your partner may have suffered from memory loss, but did not suffer from limb loss. You had enough food. 😃
Man, oh, man, what happened to check lists! I always have a check list for everything, with columns for items ready and items actually packed, even for last minute items from the fridge!
I guess you knew this trip might put you out on a limb but not Jon's limb. Glad to see Jon kept all his limbs as verified from his live cam last night.
I think Jon likes to torture ppl, first he did that insane trip with Erin in the Boreal Forest, which freezing temps. Then he takes Robinet into that unknown territory bug infested portage trip. Now he forgets his food to torture Xander into sharing his portions!? seriously? Honestly Jon needs a cargo drop of food to make this 13 day trip! sheesh! lol anyway good trips so far guys!
Great vid mate. Really enjoyed it and can't wait to see the rest of the series. Some very funny moments. My jaw actually dropped when Jon said he forgot his food haha. Poor bloke.
Loved it. Some funny AF moments forgotten food, couple scares anxieties, epic fishing and right into the groove...Makings of a true wilderness adventure.
Hi Xander, hope you are well. I don't expect you to see this but I wanted to say thank you! I'm going through some mental health issues at the moment and watching your videos gives me so much joy in a time I didnt think it possible. I'm looking forward to winter as your cold weather episodes are my favourite. Take care, Liam xx
