I strongly believe many millions want Led Zeppelin back. Imagine 20 million people applying for their tickets for a venue of just 20,000 entering them in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling concert artists of all time, beating even The Beatles.
That is a fact. And I've heard they surpassed the Beatles in LP sales also. I'd like to find out what the true world sales are for a number of bands from that day. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹
I’m apparently one of the very few people who just don’t care for Led Zeppelin. I love Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, but don’t like Robert at all. I think it goes back to a book I read that attributed 80% of their songs being rip-offs of old American Blues legends. They lost numerous lawsuits to back up that claim. I get that people are influenced by many others, and actually love and appreciate that. But to blatantly steal licks, rhythms, and entire songs is too much for me to get over. Maybe it’s an unfair take, but it always stuck with me. I like a few of their songs, but overall I could just live without them. We all have different tastes, and I’m a massive Rocker, but think they completely overrated. No ill-intent to you my friend, just explaining my take. Kindest regards.
Six songs is very far from 80%. And they were only successfully sued for three. And Stairway to Heaven was not one of the ones the plaintiff was successful at. The only rythym that could come close to your description would be Bring It On Home. Yes, I don't really care for Robert either, his penchant for 'borrowing' blues lyrics is what earned them that grief. But the Power Trio of Page, Bonham, & Jones is the best there was/is. And that, my friend is what I was talking about. And my DJ friend told me that they have indeed surpassed the Beatles in sales, a long time ago. He also said that of the streaming services, LZ stays about 48 million streams while the Beatles have dropped to a little over 11 million. I don't bear any ill will either. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹
@@williamhiles7404 I totally see your point, my friend. At times, I even go against that old gut feeling of mine because the Music is just too good. My late Dad was a huge music buff as I am. I have over 380 Albums, mostly from the 70s, with plenty of 60s and some early 80s. He held the same feeling and it was actually his book I read, it was rather old, so maybe it was from the early 70s regarding their early work. I can’t recall nor find it, but the stats stayed with me thru the years. I do recall hearing the into to Taurus by the band Spirit and truly thought it was Stairway to Heaven for a minute. So, I’m sure that clinched it for me. As I stated, everyone is inspired by something or someone else, that’s just music. Maybe its time I grew up and did a deeper dive as I couldn’t really quantify my very old mentality today (I did turn 57 Tuesday, lol). I was just explaining the reason I could never hold them in high regards. Thanks for the input, clarifications, and non-argumentative conversation. Kindest Regards…
During the intro the video was rambling on about funk bands while showing pictures of the Doors and other classic rock bands. I didn't realize the genre shift occurred...
After catching a glimpse of the Grammys last weekend, we need a resurgence of 70's and 80's energy, because what I'm seeing coming from SZA, Taylor Swift and others, is absolute, pure garbage. Sorry Gen Z and Millennials, but it's trash.
Everyone has different tastes & favorites so there’s no way these selections are gonna make everyone happy. Music is about as diverse as you can get! 😊
i was only a kid in the 70's but 13 bands we'd like to have back?!?!? i can think of about 613. without going into detail about it bottom line no mtv, no music videos back then. you couldn't have a cool little mini movie to accompany the song. yer music truly had to stand on its own and it still shows to this day. and no matter how much one mite love taylor swift i think very few would argue that there's a reason why music in the past is generally seen as just plain BETTER.
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, The Bee Gees, CCR, The Doors, The Ramones, The Clash…so many greats that we miss so much in today’s world of generic pop! 😢 Jim Morrison and Karen Carpenter….lost so damned soon. 😢
I couldn't believe Bob Welch is not even mentioned in the fleet wood mac part, he may not stayed long in the band but he left a mark in the music industry with his hit song 'Sentimental Lady'
There was a band named KISS that was the most popular band in the world from 1975-1980. It was all downhill for Led Zeppelin after they made Zeppelin IV.
Music taste today would not appreciate this music and would be ignored by mainstream music and media. The best compliment this music can have is it has stood up to the test of time. Much of the music of since early 90’s is forgotten and it should be. Led Zeppelin hasn’t put anything out since Coda and that was just unreleased music, but very few don’t appreciate their music over 40 years later and it continues to sell.
I believe that led Zeppelin was one of the greatest bands of all time and I have all of their albums. However when it comes to the eagles, you completely failed to mention Joe Walsh. In my opinion, he's the one that really turned the whole thing around and that was when The eagles we're at their most popular!
First off: Yes! I want the Ramones back. I also want want want Led Zeppelin back - the best rock band ever. Pink Floyd made one of the best albums of all time with Dark Side of the Moon. CCR was a band I really like went I was just a kid and I bought their album Green River and I played and played it. It was a really good album. I loved the Eagles and went to see them in concert as a teen. Great band but, dang they were so boring live. all they did was just stand and play. No interaction. No talk to the audience. No. movement. But, they still made great music. If I had to choose one bandy that I want back the most: Led Zeppelin. Oh, and They can keep then Carpenters and Bee Gees. Do not miss them at all.
I'm really curious as to how many of the people replying here were even alive in the 70's or old enough to appreciate what they were hearing. I'm 66 and grew up listening to pretty much all the bands listed here. They all hold a special place for me, for the memories they rekindle of simpler times. Arguing now who's more deserving or which ones actually constitute a band (c'mon, really?) is just plain stupid.
where is Rod Stewart? Cream, Jimi, Carol King, Janis, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, Chamber Brothers, Temps, Who, Elton. Billie Joel , Mountain, Booker t, Joe Tex, and to many more. Abba, don't think so.(but to each his own)
Steppenwolf, Bad company, its a beautiful day, credence Clearwater revival, BTO, Rare Earth, Foghat, Golden Earring, Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heep, The Guess Who, Hollies, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Sugarloaf….
Alot ppl at 70's, 80's, 90's wanna go into the future, but nowdays wanna go into the past? What's going on with this ppl?? You have blessing to live at the past and the future and denied it??
Your list of course, is very subjective due to taste. I noticed The Police is not mentioned, neither is Rush. But then, your list has a bunch of mello pop music.
The only band I would want back is Led Zeppelin. But I'm glad that can't happen because it's way too crazy these days, and who knows what some knucklehead might try to pull. We had our time and it was great, when the 🌎 was a whole lot different. Lucky to see them 176 times and they were the greatest times. '70 to '77. LLLZ!!! LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹
Such kind of vudeo must have more accuracy with names. The Eagles' original member Glen Frey was pronounced wrong. Frey is pronounced like "fry". Not like "fray". He introduced himself this way during the introducing of Linda Ronstad to the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame
How definitions change…funk, to me, is George Clinton not Led Zeppelin…I love both btw nor is it Pink Floyd (my favourite band) but you can’t call them a 70s funk band. But we do miss the 70s.
I loved seeing David Letterman have Helen Reddy do what seemed like a never ending comedy bit on his show . He'd have her pop up during the beginning of his show singing a few lines of her song " I am Woman !" for what seemed like weeks .
You'd think that if you are going to produce a video of Rock bands... you would learn to pronounce the bands and the members' names! Pitiful. After the 3rd mispronunciation... I turned it off!
Dire Straits released their first Album in 1978 . It was the first Album to sell 1 million copies on CD . The single from the self titled Album , Sultans of Swing was No1 in America , Europe and the UK and was the best-selling Debut Album of the 70s . And the Bee Gees are Australian NOT British . They made their Debut appearance on Australian Music Show , Bandstand , they were Super popular in Australia before the rest of the World had even heard of them . And I can hardly believe that you didn't include Australian Band AC/DC ! WTF .Yes THAT AC/DC .Who have sold over 200 Million Albums .
