I was 6 years old and in the first grade when "Scooby Doo" premiered in 1969 on CBS Saturday morning cartoon lineup. I think this show has hardly been forgotten since it's been on the air in one form or another (including feature length movies) for almost 55 years. The success of the Jackson 5 cartoon led to another cartoon series that starred their biggest rivals The Osmonds. That one began in 1972 and only lasted for 17 episodes but I still liked it better because of the songs. Unlike the Jacksons, the Osmonds used their own voices in the series which helped its popularity. Another cartoon series that I loved back then which remained popular throughout the 1970s was the Archies: Archie, Jughead, Reggie, Betty, and Veronica. Their show began in 1968, and exploded in popularity after introducing their biggest hit "Sugar Sugar". The show also introduced new characters that had their own spinoff series that were also successful: "The Groovie Goolies" and "Sabrina: The Teenage Witch".

I remember when we first received “Cablevision”. It was a godsend for all moms. When we were kids; Friday afternoons, my sister and I would create a bedroom haven in the living room. We would go early to sleep and wake up at midnight to watch the late show, the late late show, and the extra-late show. After the movies, the cartoons would begin. Sadly, today’s young generation will never know the value and warmth of Saturday mornings.

I don't think Banana Splits and Fat Albert were really forgotten and being on the list. And Fat Albert was actually made for 13 seasons, not 8 from 1972 to 1985.

I was born in 71. My Mom still talks about how I loved The Banana Splits. 😃 Dad was still in the Air Force, so I was probably still about one (?!?!) when I started watching them? She says I pronounced it "Nana Flits." I guess I was three or four when it went off the air. To this day I still remember the theme song. Johnny Quest was a segment on the show, then I think a show itself for a couple years in the mid seventies? The Splits themselves were basically The Monkeys for preschoolers (although even at 3 I thought the elephant looked like John Lennon). Anyway, for as weird as the 70s were, it was a much more fun, safe, and sane era to be a kid than now. Now I have to go get that theme song out of my head... 🎶🎵 Tra la lahhh, La la la lahhhh.. One banana, two banana, three banana, four... 🎶🎵😃

@stevedallas4942 I just don't remember watching The Banana Splits. I'm not sure if it wasn't airing where I lived or if my brother and I were already outside playing when it came on or what. The 70s were a great time to be a kid, no helicopter parents (or at least mine weren't) could run all over the neighborhood as long as my Mom knew roughly where we were so she could find us to call us home for dinner. Wore an old towel as a cape to pretend to be Captain Marvel after watching "Shazam!" Great memories 😄

They need to create a Saturday morning cartoon channel for the cartoons from the 60's 70's, and the 80's and all the Super heroes cartoons their own channel as well to show what the younger generations and today's kids what the adults grew up on. It would be a blast too❗❗
