Silicone oil can be left inside the eye for years. However that depends upon the quality of oil injected, whether the retina is attached or not, whether complications have happened due to the oil. Respected Ma'am, if there is vitreous prolapse during cataract surgery, is the eye filled with some substitute of vitreous humour in order to compensate for the lost vitreous and avoid retinal detachment in future ?

No. In fact there will be traction on the retina because the vitreous slowly gets detached

Hello. My doctor said they’ll have to put a new oil permanently. I’ve had 4 different detachments. It’s a it being there permanently going to cause an issue. He said he’d use a special oil that can last forever

Yes certain oils can be put longer. You can expect some changes to the eye in the long term though. Better to have vision than not.

Mam pls reply....I have silicon oil 1500cs in my eye which was installed 9 months ago ...now today sor performed but during surgery retina was vivid at one side so doctor didn't take risk and installed 5000 cs oil and performed laser also . Now I am worried that how long I have to wait to remove again this oil...pls reply mam

If the retina is redetaching your doctor may not remove the high density oil

And mam my vision is 6/9 before sor but during sor doc said your retina is attached but looks mobile...it has chances to detachment if they not inserted oil again so they fill up oil again.....now I m worried.....I don't like vision with oil...pls mam give your opinion

But how can it be left in if it is making the vision blurry? I have it for 12 days and it feels like a contact Lense that moves around and makes my vision blurry. Around this round circle my vision is a little clearer but still blurry on day 12. I understand I will see blurry for a few weeks. The pressure in my eye on day 5 was 39 so he gave me 3 different drops to use every 2 hours everyday. I will see him tomorrow on day 13 to see if pressure has dropped. I feel it has because I do not feel like a headache is coming on like I did first week. So that means he put too much oil right? I want this oil out regardless, I can't see with that oil ring in there. Thank for the info.

After 5 days I went to see the Dr. and he took a picture/xray and it showed the Macular hole has sealed which is great news. So that's why I want to know long how much longer do I have to keep this oil in. I will see him tomorrow for check up # 2 and I want to ask when can it be done because it is driving me crazy already, @@advancedretinacare

I went to see him today, visit #2 and he said everything looks good and to come back in 3 weeks to schedule the removal so it will be 6 weeks with it. I have no choice but to be handicap another month, no driving and not really being able to walk freely or go up and the stairs normally, I have to hold on to everything or everyone. Not a way to live so long when I don't see any reason to keep that oil in there so long. Thank you for your input. @@advancedretinacare
