HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Have you got an M1 Macbook Air or Macbook Pro? If so, how's it going for you? Let us know in the comments! FYI: This is a re-upload as there was a high pitched noise in the audio that I had to filter out 🙂.
My Pro died and I bought the M1Air, I was feeling a bit defeated because I didn't look at the specs and figured I paid so much more for my 'pro' that it must still be better then the Air (and it's 'pro'). You guys have made me feel a lot better about my new purchase, even if I am a few years late to the tech lol.
Absolutely loved watching this and the fantastic relationship you have with your daughter! My little girl is only 5 but we are already as thick as thieves and have lots of little jokes between ourselves. I'm hoping she'll follow my slightly geeky path as she grows older. Keep up the amazing work 👍🏻!
thank you couldnt find any comparsion video for similary priced mcbooks mbp 16 inch and mba m1 all are mostly comparing with the m1 pro which is bound to be better, but also a bit expensive, wanted to see if i9 performas any better because it was a top model back in 2019
Omg y'all are too freaking cute! AND this was also a great video and mac comparison. I needed to see this to feel better about getting switched from the 2018 macbook pro to the m1 macbook air at work (ui/multimedia designer). Other than the much smaller screen size though, I'm actually excited now by the performance boost and not having to worry about overheating and leaf blower fan sounds :D
Hey! How about workflow of both? Tbh, export isn,t the most important thing in video editing but working without droping frames, freezes, etc? Can you edit on timeline with full quality or 1/2, 1/4? That is very important. Regards!
Hi Marcin! Well it depends on what is more import to you, to me it’s not having 6 hour render times 🙂. On an M1 you can edit 4K at full res on the Apple Silicon FCP without dropping frames. In Rosetta Premiere you’ll drop a few frames but it’s OK at 1/2 res. On my old MBP, both would drop frames at even 1/4 res. Check this dude out, he’s the king of M1 videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WUXZBVLFNfY.html
So in my workflow(Sketch, Abstract, and Craft) Abstract and craft don't support the new arm architecture of apple yet and they can only work through Rosetta. So my request is could you please run a test on sketch through rosetta? And compare the speed with your old 2018 Macbook. And a happy new year.
Hi Khurram, well I just sold my 2018 Macbook Pro so it'll be a bit hard to compare but I can say this... Sketch is very smooth on an M1 Macbook Air BUT most of the plugins don't work and in fact, crash Sketch once you try to use them (Thankfully Sketch automate still works).
This is a little late but I’m trying to choose between the 2. I found a MacBook Pro 15 inch 2018 for the same price as a brand new Mac air m1. And I think the 13 inch would be a little too small. But the 2018 is a little slower
Can you wait a few months? Apple will be releasing new Macbook Pros around Sept/Oct. If not then just go with what you're happy with. I just wanted more speed when rendering and no fan noise so the MBA M1 was a good choice for me. For you, that could be completely different and price as always is the thing here 🙂.
I couldn’t wait and opted to buy an M1 Mac Mini. It’s the best price for the M1 chip devices. I have a 2018 MBP and it gets really hot and it is difficult to perform more process intensive tasks on it. My only gripe with the M1 devices is their lack of lightning ports (or usb c 4.0). Just two versus the 2018’s standard 4. Another gripe is that the M1 laptops don’t support more than 1 external display! I need that screen real estate to work comfortably so I opted for the Mac Mini.
Go the M1 if you can. Check in at Apple Refurbished to see if they have M1 MBA's there, or even try getting one second hand. Mine is still kicking ass 🙂.
