13 Things I learnt 0ver 15 years of living with limb loss. I could have avoided a bunch of struggles had I been aware of this earlier. What are YOUR suggestions? PLEASE comment below - THANKS! #AmpedPutee #amputee
I'm a relative newcomer to the world of being an amputee and have gotten so much from the youtube community. But none as much as yourself. It's given me so much to think about during this time. Thank you so much.
Hi David, thank you for this comment. I appreciate the feedback, it motivates me to keep on posting and making videos. Any suggestions for topics are appreciated.
I don’t know where you live, but I live in Kentucky USA. Choice of doctors, choice of therapy, choice of prosthetics builder. Good lord man, even a choice of one of those would be a miracle!
Hi, I live in Cape Town South Africa, I guess we are quite lucky to have a few good options to choose between. Thanks for commenting, I had a good chuckle when I read the "Good lord man ..." part!
Hi Jo, great to hear from you again, and thanks for the feedback. I've been following and in awe of what you have achieved with your channel - much deserved considering your work rate and content. Also, you've made it a fun channel with a relatable character and personality. One day I can tell people that I was there from the start ... when you're challenging Casey for subs ... you go! Nice to hear we have similar ideas in design! Have a peaceful Xmas, keep on uploading :-)
I'm in my fifth year as an above knee amputee. And I'm still feel afraid to show my prosthetic leg. I'm quite active, and when I'm traveling I'll walk about 15000 steps per day. Yet I'm still using a foam to make my prosthetic leg look more like a normal leg when I'm wearing long pants. Looks cool when you are wearing short pants, I wish someday I'll be able to do that!
Hi Johnny, thanks for the comment and for being so honest about wearing your prosthetic leg. We all find our way in our own time, I remember when I felt self-conscious with my leg, but I pushed through and now I hardly think of it. I also use a foam or I wrap a cloth inside a sock to create some volume when wearing long pants, which is seldom. For me its just who I am and I feel confident about being an amp now, but it took time, which is OK. That "someday" might be sooner than you think :-) Its good that you're so active, that's a decent amount of steps in a day! All the best, please keep sending your thought about being an amputee, we appreciate the feedback.
So much good advice Chris, I can certainly relate to so much you say. I'm certainly still struggling with a few of your 13 things. Only being just over one year as an amputee, I'm going to take on board a lot that you say.....Thank you. x Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you for the info and sharing your experience. As a BKA I had to learn my new “normal” and not compare my situation to others .. we all heal physically and mentally at different speeds. Just keep pushing forward.
Hi Adrian, thank you for your message and for sharing your thoughts. What you say is so important - we all have our unique experience and move at a comfortable pace. One obstacle at a time... take care.
Marion Diemert hi Marion, thanks for your kind words, it’s so cool to hear from you again! I’m well thanks, just been so busy with making things work out in these times. I’ve JUST posted a video, please let me know what you think. Much care ☀️
Good morning Chris just watched 13 tips for amputees. So good. Applicable for all who had surgery. Also the elderly. Thank you darling for being so strong and inspiring example. Love ma
My journey started June 11, 2022. I have had one set back after another. I've only walked with my prosthesis 3 days and yet another setback. I'm hoping to walk again soon. My husband has been a greatly supportive. I'm blessed.
@@micheleaustin8617 Hi Michele, if it helps to share my experience the first 10+ years, I experienced one infection after the other, on and off my leg during that time, but today I have a very good life with almost full mobility. You will get to find your solutions if you persist and I wish you all the best with that. Please join us in the live stream and share your experience, maybe we can give you so e suggestions live, real time, which could be helpful. Take care
Hi, im sorry I only saw this message today! I left all the other scary sport and only ride my motorcycle now. Its perfectly possible, just need a modification or two. The reason I stopped the others is I don't want to put my good leg at risk. Also, I don't think ill get that lucky to survive another accident falling from the sky!
Hi Stephen, thanks for the question. This is a good topic for a video, I'll look into it some more. I have considered it, but personally for me it's too invasive, I feel I have found my solution and don't feel up to the procedure or maintenance which follows - but different solutions for different people right? If you're thinking of going that way I would suggest talking to people on both sides of the experience, good and otherwise to get a balanced perspective. Whatever you decide I wish you the best! It would be great to hear from you regardless of the decision, I think many are considering this procedure.
Hi, thanks for the question. Yes absolutely you can mate, I know many right leg amputees with a good left leg who drive, no problem. Go for it, please let us know how it went!
@@jeannie2548 I’m from Utah, I am having a good bit of frustration with phantom pain but other than that life hasn’t changed a whole lot yet other than a few moments of oh there is not a foot there.
Unfortunately not, but I can look into it. I am a TK amputee yes, look out for a new video soon on a knee I'll be testing soon, the new 2021 Ossur Power Knee. I've been assured it's a phenomenal piece of engineering. Are you an amputee? Thanks for your comments Morgan, I appreciate your participation in our community.
@@theampedlife I heard it was as well. I am with a high level amputee group on Facebook....amd was with the hemi-pelvectomy/hip disarticulation group...but Julie, the admin didn't like me, so she blocked me 🤣.
@@theampedlife I'm preparing myself for being a right hip disarticulate. I think it's incredibly important to prepare things before hand if you can do that. It's going to be a hard enough transition. Plus it kind of gets you in the right mind-set...at least I hope.
@@theampedlife is the Ottobock Kenevo A good prosthetic leg for me I am a below the knee left leg amputee I still have my left kneecap and I still have a bout a quarter of my leg down from my left knee cap I just do not have the rest of my left leg and I do not have my left foot. Hi Sir, Hope you are doing good!! Could you please suggest me the best liner for my prosthetic above knee leg. I am getting pain repeatedly everytime I wear my prosthetic leg. Hoping for a good response. Thank you in advance!!
Hi Swetha, thanks for your message. I am really well thanks, I hope the same for you! In my experience the best liner is the Ossur Iceross Seal In Liner. I have been using it for about 4 years now, its better than anything else I've used before, far superior In quality and comfort. Here is a link: www.ossur.com/en-za/prosthetics/liners/iceross-seal-in-x Where are you from?
@@theampedlife Hi Sir, Good day!! I am from India. I had met with a severe accident and as a result, I have lost my right leg which is above my knee. I would like to know a thing. I am getting pain from the edges of prosthetic leg socket. I even tried cotton cloth which was given to me. But still feeling the same pain. It is giving pressure on the side of the starting point of my leg. Could you please suggest what I can do to avoid or to reduce the pressure ? Thanks in advance!!
@@swethadr1997 I can suggest a few things to check. The shape of the socket - does it cause a pressure point(s)? The alignment of the socket, knee and foot - is the setup balanced? The liner - is it providing good vacuum, support and cushioning? Do you use a lubricant between your skin and liner? Do you use proper footwear? This is often overlooked. Finally - rest the residual limb every few days and put no pressure on it. I use Arnica oil to alleviate bruising. I hope this is helpful! All the best.
@@theampedlife Hello sir, First of all, thanks for the response!! I don't feel any uncomfort in the shape of the socket. It fits me well. I feel I can even move my stump slightly inside the socket. I use only sports shoe and if suppose I wear a normal shoe, I feel the pressure is to the core and not even able to take a few steps forward. Reg. Lubricant, no one adviced me to use any lubricant and the prosthetist said, I can overcome the pain in some months. But it's been more than a year and still the same. If I want to walk, they gave a soft cloth to wear as stump socks. But the edge of the socket is giving pressure beyond it. Thank you!!
Me myself was having pain I went to a pain doctor and he gave me a pain block shot by my spine, don't worry you don't feel it they sedate you and when you come to you don't feel it and the pain is gone I have gone back and got another eventually the pain is gone for good
Thanks for the feedback, point taken. I was told this by another subscriber way back and subsequently turned the volume way down. Hope that at least the content was helpful though!
@@theampedlife I'm sure it was, and I appreciate your effort. I just couldn't hear most of it. Scheduled for right BTK amp Aug. 25, so I am trying to get all the info I can. Thanks!
@@battleborn2002 Hey man, Im sorry to hear you need the surgery, but for what its worth it can be the beginning of a whole new world ... not better, not worse, just different with new challenges and and experiences. Losing my leg ultimately had a very good outcome for me, it took me a while but my life got better. I wish the same for you, all the best with this journey. Gathering information ahead of time is the wisest thing to do now, you will avoid so much setbacks by doing so.
