I had a G5 for years and it's a surprisingly good phone. Not only one of the last decently-specced phones with both a headphone jack and a removable battery, but the fact the battery is so easy to remove and can even be charged outside of the phone is outstanding. The screen is great for the time and had LG built upon it and created an ecosystem of multiple phones with interchangeable (and useful) modules, perhaps the gimmick might've worked. My only gripes would be the large resolution with such a small battery and the weird form factor of the phone itself, which made finding cases and other accessories for it a nightmare, especially after a few years. But I do miss smaller flagships with removable batteries.
i bought the LG G5 because it was the only seemingly reasonable smartphone that i kud find with a user-replaceable battery. a user-replaceable battery is my top priority in a smart phone. sadly the phone had so many bugs that i didn't buy multiple ones and when the screen failed from cracking when dropping, i'm just not interested in fixing it. too many software bugs. 😢 But i absolutely loved the removable battery. sadly i've had a few times that it just spontaneously turned off on me. i assume because the battery supply was disconnected unintentionally, but it didn't happen too much to be horrid. overall, i loved it with one dooming problem: software bugs. 😢
Watching this feb 2022 it feels tame. I loved this video when it came out. Now it feels like someone took a mrwhosetheboss video and turned the energy down a little. What this says to me is you took something I loved.. and kept improving until its a level of awesome I couldn't have come up with myself. This channel is so. freaking. good. Really makes me wonder what else Iove now but is going to reach new places... Thanks for the vids!
Yup and alot of politicians and fortune 500 execs used it until fairly recently since it was OP on security. I remember listening to old radio shows and people arguing how BlackBerry is a "man's" phone and iPhone is a "little girls" phone. Good times.
Blackberries were for professionals. They were known to have the best security and encryptions out of any phone. And the full keyboards were really nice. I'm sad they went out of business
I can see the P18k being useful for people who go on arctic expeditions or something like that. It could’ve been sold very well if they made it for that purpose or something similar with other optimisations for that sort of thing but as a normal smartphone it’s only going to fail realistically.
Imagine adding backtracking satellite sos and a couple of things more….. then i can assure you it would’ve been a great deal but sadly they didn’t used their cards right
We have powerbanks, just buy as many of them as you want, I don't get the point of having a brick sized phone only for the purpose of battery. And for those people who want bigger battery. There is a niche category of rugged phone which are twice the width of normal phone.
As smartphone geek, that is below the belt. You guys of all the people, should not be doing that to LG, yeah Samsung is there but it's like you're saying it's okay to show favoristism to your kids.
@@sasorishino I mean we Koreans are kinda patriotic and love our domestic companies...It's more like "I really hope LG was doing better than this" meme.
The Bixby button is great, but only because Samsung never locked out bxActions, which turns it from an annoying shortcut to a voice assistant I'll never use to a programmable button that I can use to toggle the flashlight, play/pause my music, and bring up the Google assistant.
i do know that if you talk a lot in your job(I work at tech department on a callcenter) you are kind of forced to talk very calmy as it stresses your voice/throat less. So at the end of the day, your throat doesnt hurt. No point in shouting. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I was very excited about the Essential phone and very close to getting one. It's honestly too bad that the execution didn't match the motivation because with the proper momentum, their ideas could have really gone somewhere
I actually had pre-ordered one and got hands on with it. The phone felt amazing in the hands and had that high quality feel to it with the heft. They just really dropped the ball with the hardware.
For the urgents 0:09. Moto razer 1:03. Royal flexpi 2:22. Air power 4:14. HTC u ultra 5:13. LG G5 6:38. Blackberry Z10 8:27 Samsung Bixby. 9:28 Amazon fire phone. 11:00. Essential 12:39. Apple battery gate. 13:52 Red hydrogen. 15:16. Google pixel 4 17:18 energizer P18K
I think that a 10/10 fail would be if the phone turned into a robot dictator and summoned it's fellow robot minions and together the massacred the hoomans and ruled the world. But that's only a theory
Energizer smart powerbank (samsung smart fridge) Does anyone understand the slow yoke Hahahahahaja i said yoke and it's not plane hahahahahajajahajajajajajajajajhahahahahahahaahahahahahahhahha it's a joke hahahahaahahahah Idk i just want to comment something
Googles biggest fail is buying up Nexus throwing it under the bus and making the Pixel. I am still mad that the best phone I ever owned is not there anymore
This actually really cool idea, sadly they sell the phone expensive and outting google play was really stupid idea. I bet if they sell like 200-300$ and put GP in, their app will rocket which can bought new user. And it also helps you with pricing cause trust me WE NEED it. Sadly such a bad decision.
Blackberry had the best security though on their phones which is why apparently government agencies used them. I think they still might. You can still use a blackberry, they just cut off tech support and patch and security updates, but they still work good. My friend's company phones were blackberries up until the pandemic started and they ended up upgrading and using encrypted communications through an app now.
Maybe I'm a Samsung fan boy, but after years and years, I recently started using my bixby feature and it's pretty awesome. Also, I hated the bixby button.
@@DARK_AMBIGUOUS weird stuff like this tend to become a legend in the tech world and may become expensive in time due to its rarity and fame.....a phone made by a battey mogul that flopped...hell that becomes a collector's item due time
This guy is spot on ,they have put this Bixby button right below power button and you always press that button when you want to switch off the phone. And payment below the screen so you always accidentally pull up the payment screen while getting to the apps.
The funny thing is it wasn't because it was a bad product or because there was no demand, it's because nobody even knew it was available to order until after it was cancelled as they never publicised it xD
"Those that have never heard of Bixby, and those who know all about it" You forgot the "I was trying to turn down the volume but pressed Bixby" people.
The Waffle Pancakes that would be great but again it is my work phone and I cannot download apps. It’s probably possible with some fuckery but I don’t want fired due to bixby haha
I had actually purchased an Amazon Fire Phone when it came out. I got a deal for $200 because I got it right away verse the $450 price it was going to jump up to. The dynamic view where you could tilt the background was actually pretty wicked. The other notable thing was you had free 24/7 Customer Service where you could call to ask any question.
Apple: Slows down my Iphone so i buy a new one. Me: Buys a Samsung. Apple: No, this isn't how you play the game. edit:if i put together all the replies and made it into a book i would have a book series that could rival the lord of the rings
Wassuh with people and making fun of samsung you know it made a brand new 5g phone and gaming tablet and the phone is better than any apple phone and the tab well better than all apple ipads accept this years pro
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he's got a nice voice. It's not just because he has an RP accent either, I'm english and he still has a nice voice.
@@user-gq9gm2en4g honestly, I don’t understand the demographic for those types of RU-vidrs. I’m quite young and can’t stand them, and I have yet to meet someone that actually watches those RU-vidrs.
I'm not. Moved on to USB type C headphones (on android phones), never came back. No bluetooth or batteries needed. Yeah yeah i can't charge while i listen, but that just means I take care not to let the battery run out while using headphones out and about, before I get home and can charge the phone. If you REALLY want to do both at once often enough, there's dongles out there that enable you to plug in both a charger and usb C headphones to the same USB c port.
@@TrigramThunder Removing a feature, only to offer an adapter to get that feature back, defeats the point. It just adds more plastic waste when those adapters eventually break, and need replacement. Also, many headphones still use audio jacks as their main output, because unless there's a significant improvement between it and USB type C, which I doubt [can't say for sure though], there is no reason to transition.
Wireless charging Everyone is wasting their money let me tell u why Wireless charging slower than cable More expensive U can't use phone while charging.. So really what's the point
No the battery gate thing didn't actually improve the battery in fact it harmed the battery. As instead of actually slowing down the system they just made the chips go ham on nothingness. Making their older phones much warmer much slower and their batteries both degraded faster and died faster. Apple is a smart enough company where this decision was most certainly to make people switch to newer phones.
You forgot to mention the HTC One was made to only work with its own charger. I had one for a couple of weeks (borrowed from a friend) and it charged in 8-14 hours without its proprietary charger.
@@osamazaidsalimtawfek5416 Cool. Looks like a few seconds _more_ than a minute on my end, but still cool. Just imagine that some replies are meant for both the parent comment and future readers. also, *You're.
For #1, I have heard a lot of people saying they didn’t care about phones being super-thin and would sacrifice some thickness for better battery (though that’s just anecdotal), and that video about why phones no longer have replaceable batteries, and I think the problem is just that they went overboard with it. If they just made a *slightly* thicker battery that could go for a few days without charging even after some wear and tear, that probably could have worked.
13:53 watching this on a Red Hydrogen One phone which I am stuck with Now here's some story: I got this phone because I thought it was cool. And it was, for a month. Then I realized my mistake and tried to sell it, problem with that was that nobody even knew what phone this was so they weren't interested, and the ones who did know it knew how bad it is. So yea I'm stuck with it now
LG... That one hurts. They really made some awesome stuff. And weren't afraid to try things. Bixby itself was pretty shite. But after they enabled the option to change the button...I wish they still offered that extra button honestly.
@@SuperVladamere I am genuinely jealous. I'd love to hear what they said. "How long does the charge last?" "50 days" "How long does it take to charge?" "75 days"
Motorola made my favorite phone ever and it's discontinued. The Z series. I've had a Z2 Play and I still use my Z4. The JBL speaker attatchment for it is awesome, and the projector (although flawed, and expensive) is fantastic for bringing movies on the go. Perfect example is taking the ferry to vancouver Island. Used a painting canvas on the dash board for the screen, and a blue tooth speaker so as not to kill my battery and I had something to do for the entire trip back to mainland other than stroll around the upper floors bored out of my mind.
Dude I have a HTC and I'll tell you something... It sucks money from your wallet. The phone only worked properly for a week and after a week it started overheating and the phone's battery life just died. I took the phone to a friend of mine and he told me that their chargers were the ones who ruined the battery life of the phone. If your going to buy a new phone then do not buy a HTC phone
I feel bad for these smart phone companies that made it onto this list. They were just trying to make a smart phone and they made a terrible smart phone.
There's no way the Note 7 isn't the biggest fail in smartphone history. I STILL see signs in airports: "No blades, no explosives, no firearms, no Samsung Galaxy Note 7's"
Thanks for mentioning 'Applegate' because at the same time my Samsung Galaxy was doing the same thing in which the battery was dropping a charge really, really FAST. So after hearing about Apple customers issue, I called my carrier 'boostmobile ' who in turn referred me to 'samsung' who referred me back to 'boostmobile ' and again referred me back to 'samsung'. STOP! I then shared with both boostmobile/samsung that if that's the BEST you two can do, I'll drop you BOTH! Miraculously, my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy J7_2017) starts to work PROPERLY. Whatever, firmware/botware/whatever_ware they sent in one of their 'updates' was IMMEDIATELY deleted/muted/changed. I had the smartphone less than a year before this issue started and I had came to the conclusion that maybe this was trying to get me to UPGRADE. They are called ' budget' phones for a reason and I told myself that I should at least get 4/5 years of GOOD use out of my purchase. So thanks for sharing! c.peter morgan.
You're one of many RU-vidr's covering tech, but you're one among very few I enjoy watching. I really like your reserved, toned down style, and lack of constant memes or jokes. I don't feel treated like an idiot, when I watch your videos, and that's... rare. Good job!
I got the g5 for really cheap a year after it came out and I honestly really liked it, having the option yo carry a separate battery was pretty convenient tbh
BlackberryOS was able to run any .apk app, so essentially there wasn't a lack of choice, so to say, but rather a lack of optimization and user experience. Not everyone knows where to download the apk files, and even then these apps drained battery a lot because they were non-native to the system despite their support. I think they were just one step away from making something absolutely wonderful.
Apple: Slows down my Iphone so i buy a new one. Me: Buys a Samsung. Apple: No, this isn't how you play the game. edit:if i put together all the replies and made it into a book i would have a book series that could rival the lord of the rings
Maybe because Blackberry as a company actually was successful before failing so miserably, whereas Amazon's fire phone was just failure, right from the get go.
I had an LG G4. It was a great phone until it randomly died from the problems mentioned in the video. No warning, no chance to rescue my data, no hope of repair. Just a sudden and catastrophic failure.
I used an LG G5 for about 4 years and I loved it. Eventually it just became outdated, but the removable battery is something I'll always miss. After 2 years of owning it, the battery died, but instead of having to buy a new phone, I just got a £20 battery off Amazon than still works to this day (I still use the phone as a spare sometimes).
@@kavinsp Even then the Google Pixel 3a with Google lenses can scan it and most likely get the correct item you scan, as well as the fact it comes with a bunch more scanner options, and on top of that all at a cost that was like 2/3 of the price or less. Overall I don't see a use for it at all, not even to scan stuff.
