Rock 102 WBEN Buffalo,NY 102.5. Was my favorite radio station in the 1970s. They were a top 40 station. They played great music back then. I use to live in Toronto. I found Toronto stations boring back then.
KMET - The Mighty MET! Los Angeles, California. The best rock station on the West Coast; maybe on the planet. Not a top 40 station, that was KLOS. "95 and a half- KLOS." They played great tunes, but, serious rockers dialed in 97.7 KMET. The best music selection - no repeats, even whole albums if the DJ was in the mood - and the greatest DJ's in the business. Every one of them had that "special FM voice" and the absolute coolest "California", "LA" personality. Very strong signal too. I could be driving the 5 north out of LA, across the grapevine, a bit north of Bakersfield before I began to loose the sound. KLOS is still around, but, The Mighty MET died sometime in the early to mid 80's. Not sure exactly when, I was serving in the USAF during the 80's and 90's; she was their when I left, but, gone when I returned home. There was just something special about FM during that era. Can't say exactly what, but, it was indeed... special.
Detroit: WLLZ 98.7 (especially the summer of 95 when they went new rock), 89x, Planet 96.3, 102.7 Z Rock, 105.1 the Edge. WJBK 1500 is now WLQV, a gospel station.
