In this PHP tutorial I will talk about scopes in PHP, and when we are able to access variables within our scripts! 🙂 Scope is important to know about, since it lets you know when you are able to use variables in our main script, in functions, or in our classes.

You mention at the start how a variable within the main code (not inside a function) has global scope, but in the previous video you proved the exact opposite is true. A variable in the main code CAN be accessed from within a function, but it needs to be referred to as global within the function according to the past video. I mention this as if any other users have coding backgrounds and actually considers a variable in the main code as "global" (as we who code would understand global to mean) then they may make mistakes when trying to use those variables without defining the scope within the function. Variables are generally local in the main code, not global, but a child (in this case a function) has access to its parent variables if you force a scope on it. Or at least that is how I understand it, based on what I have seen from your example so far

Wow the static keyword is new to me! Hehe but a little intuitive though.. It would read like static is being instantiated or at least assigned value every time the function is called, but actually instantiated and assigned at once.. The syntax though feels like closure in javascript where you use HO functions that return a function, but declare variables inside so that they can be incremented At least with JS, the syntax is intuitive hehe

Thx a lot. I come from the other video. SO, the global variable is just a declaration which will have effect later. There is not any assignments or operations to do like "global $variable = 'same value everywhere' " ?

Could someone share with me how you can get the error message printed to the browser? I'm on a Mac, running Monterey and I use Google Chrome, whenever Dani purposely makes an error, it's printed to the browser. I don't see that for my browser. Any tips would be appreciated!
