Police officers are the order of any country. In movies, they chase the worst criminals, conduct interrogations, and, of course, they save people. But is this all this true? And how do these things really happen?
Btw, have you ever engaged in a pleasant conversation with a police officer who stopped you on the road? If you have, then you’ve probably given them a lot of useful info without even realizing it. The police have much more up their sleeves than you might think, and a superhero arsenal is just one of many of those things! So here are the most interesting facts about the dangerous work that policemen do. Most people probably have no idea about these crazy facts.

SUMMARY:
- When you’re stopped by a police officer who’s accusing you of something, you’d better recall your alibi, and fast.
- Police officers touch the trunk or tail light of your car when they pull you over. This way, the officer is leaving their fingerprints on your car. They would serve as evidence if something happened to the officer during your conversation.
- Before an intersection or among tall buildings, the “yelp” mode, which has a faster beat, is used because it bounces off the surrounding walls better. The “hi-lo” mode can be used in different situations, but it’s generally reserved for dense traffic.
- The “cops love donuts” stereotype has become so omnipresent that many police officers even stay away from donut shops at all costs not to feed the myth.
- They have a legal right to do it by lying in your face. The only thing they’re not allowed to do is making your confession involuntary.
- In the US, if 911 receives a call that potentially requires immediate action, they will send out a SWAT team that will first break down the door and put everyone on the floor, and only then ask questions.
- The thin blue line is a sign to all the members of the police out there that here’s a supporter. The police actually have a sort of brotherhood.
- As soon as one of them gets into trouble, others will try to get them out of there.
- They’ll have everything from handcuffs and a radio to a whole arsenal needed to take down criminals on the run.
- In fact, like almost everyone else, they have to do lots of boring things. Filing documents, filling in some blanks, compiling reports, and so on.
- If you have a friend in the police, you’d be surprised at how much they already know about you - even if you didn’t tell them anything.
- It’s a common belief that most police officers are quite cynical. Well, in truth, the same can be said about any professional working with people on a daily basis.

I was driving on the fwy in losangeles when an 18 wheeler flew over the center divider 30 ft in the air, landed 70 ft in front of me & exploded, killing 3 people. I plowed into the roof of the trailer & was trapped in the burning wreckage. With the help of adrenalin, I bent the seat back & tried to open the doors, they were all jammed. I started kicking the back window, that's when an off duty LAPD, coming back from Disneyland w. His family heard me, ran into 30 ft flames & pulled me out. Seconds later it exploded. Thank God, this officer is my angel. A brave man, the only one who sacrificed his life for me. He now has the medal of valor. Well deserved. This is an example of the outstanding brave men & women on the force. Glad to know your out there. Thank You & God Bless you all !!!

Hats off to LAPD. I applied once and during the first stage orientation they said under no circumstances do you accept gratuities no matter how grateful the citizen is. That's your job. I've seen other agencies accept freebies and it always increased my respect for LAPD that they abided by higher principles. It's a bummer that their hands are tied in enforcing simple acts such as illegal alien enforcement.

I was pulled over because my taillight on my car was out. I had just left the auto zone with the light to place it at home. Officer Gonzales and Officer McKinney actually replaces it for me, and just gave me a warning. Two days later they came through my line where I worked, I just started thanking them again for helping me that day, I took them to lunch, then from that day the two became friends of my family. To this day, we are friends.

Although they seem the same, a police officer (aka officer of the peace) is not actually completely the same as a peace officer. In NYS where I work in Security, a peace officer is a security officer who holds his law enforcement license, and is employed as a peace officer. The main difference is that a peace officer is not law enforcement off site, whereas a police officer is always a police officer, on or off duty.

I’m very familiar with a former (he’s retired now) Ohio State Trooper in the Meigs County area. One day he was parked just around the corner from an area where people had a tendency to pop around the turn often over the speed limit. One of his “ Customers” that day was his wife going somewhere but enough over the limit. He stopped her and very professionally wrote her a ticket knowing full well that it would be coming out of his own paycheck, and that there would be a bit of tension at home. The word got around and I don’t know how things were at his house but his reputation improved because of his treating his own wife just like any other speeder.

It’s interesting the difference in how cops from different countries act. In Australia cops are pretty approachable and not so highly strung whereas the USA even a routine traffic stop can be quite intense. In the UK cops will engage in banter with drunks leaving pubs and are quite friendly. Since police represent law I judged them in a negative light. The officer asked me why he stopped me. I said because of a bad sticker, right? He took my license and registration back to his vehicle . He returned to my vehicle in 2 minutes and said to me ", neither you nor I can afford these kind of fines. Go get a sticker! No ticket was given me. Probably 15+ years ago I got pulled over once for "spirited acceleration" (even though I hadn't broken the speed limit) from a traffic light that had just turned green. When the Officer asked "do you know why I pulled you over?" I just happened to have the perfect "excuse"... I just cocked my head, GRINNED and said "you could SMELL those Officer?!" as I pointed over to my front passenger seat... As he leaned forward and shined his light he saw a fresh piping hot box of a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts I'd picked up only minutes prior. He just about DIED laughing at the "coincidental evidence" I had! (All the car guys and street racers in my town would meet up at the new Krispy Kreme parking lot on Fri/Sat nights and check out everyone's rides in the bright parking lot lights, and some would then exchange where they planned to race and split off in random directions. The Police caught on and would hide in nearby spots on the main drags near there to pull people over who were in "fast cars" for ANY small excuse or even tail people to figure out where the races were). He gave me a warning to "not accelerate so fast" and sent me on my way. Didn't even ask for my license or insurance, totally would've given him a couple donuts too if he didn't head back to his car in such haste!

I spent 21 years in the military, of those, 6 years was spent as a cop. I enjoyed those days and the interaction I had with people good and bad. As a cop you learn somethings about the nature of men, others aren't privy too. The good side, the bad side, the black and white of situations and my favorite, the gray areas. Those gray areas where no written law has been violated, but integrity and a moral line has been crossed; in these areas I must seek to move the Law Enforcement agency out of harms way and let my fellow officer stand on his reputation, with my moral support. There are always degrees and levels of circumstances to be considered. Did the officer act intentional, did he attempt to cover it up from you, was it his immediate intention to do the right thing, was anyone hurt. Was anyone hurt should probably be the first question.
@mattnelson8879

It’s really quite a masterful and brilliant performance that clearly shows his talents and his dedication to the craft. It's so that if anyone overhears the officer say that then people can testify in court that the suspect was resisting the officer. Even If they didn't see anyone resisting. He lived over 200 miles from this Court. The Judge was hearing a case on my arrival on the trial date so I took a seat. The defendant came in and happened to sit next to me. I introduced my self as the arresting officer and asked if he came from home. He did. When the Court called my case I asked the Judge if I could speak. Granted. I told the Judge that I was sitting with the Defendant who had driven 200+ miles from home to appear, and I was willing to accept that as sufficient punishment for the offense. Again granted.

I was in my 40's, and driving 3 hours from VA to MD. On the last leg of the trip, I had to go through 3 towns at 35 mph. No problem. Until I started to be pushed along, so, yep, I speed up and he does, too. We both get pulled over. I was questioned first, the usual. Plus, where was I headed. "Home". Then came a question I wasn't expecting, "you were being pushed?" YES! How he knew? Sent on my way. Think about that often. A second or third police car? Had to be, the towns were only a few miles apart, with no pull offs until where we stopped. I was greatful to leave that man behind. Tailgaters bother me. I understand that the problem is much worse 2021. (Dashcams work wonders.)

They are also checking to see if your trunk/hatchback is open. Its less common now, but there were instances when the partner of a criminal would hide in the trunk, and ambush an officer. Before c.1995~ few vehicles had a trunk release accessible from the driver's seat. Also, they sometimes found evidence in the trunk. If it is in "Plain Sight" it is admissible in Court (Plain View Doctrine). Also true of anything visible in the back seat, etc. Usually, before driving (in particular if crossing the International Border), I would clean the inside of my car, even vacuum it! If there was a bunch of junk, or even bags or baggage, it could result in a curious officer "Inspecting" my vehicle.

I used to work with a fellow who told me he driving on a freeway with one of his friends, and a state trooper pulled him over unexpectedly. There were two troopers and one went to each side of the car. The driver was asked for his license, etc. and a couple time he asked why he had been stopped. The trooper finally said "you really don't know?" and the driver said "no, I don't". The trooper then said "well, when you passed by us, your passenger gave us the finger". The other trooper then reprimanded the passenger, saying "some day you may need our help--how would YOU like it if we just drove by and gave YOU the finger instead of stopping to help you?" The Judge Looked at me and said, " Young Man, You admitted you were speeding, The Citing officer said you were very cooperative, Kind, and thanked Him for His service and Hoped He would remain safe. They threatened to bring a witness (another cop), I said bring it on. I had one in my car as well. They called to dismiss it the morning of the trial. Another reason for different sirens. As you approach an intersection you vary the siren because another responding vehicle might not be heard over your siren if it matches. By varying it you reduce the chance of collision responding to a scene. I once heard regarding donuts that the officer can watch which one you pick and specify a certain one which helps ensure it was not tampered with. Not so in most other food venues.
