To play music on Spotify, I added an "Open URL" shortcut to the automation. You copy the song URL off Spotify and ADD ":play" to the end of the URL and it will autoplay and the continue with the rest of the album

Just a suggestion for your next video would be how to use time based shortcuts. Apple makes this overly difficult in my opinion and my guess would be that most people do not know how to do this. For example, scan the NFC before 8 and it runs a good morning scene, at night after 9 PM it runs a good night. Maybe connect focus modes into that. Just a thought… love the content and miss having you on HKI!!

these are one of the things keeping me on apple. sure there are alternatives for apple but apples will always have the best app and hardware integration
You can actually run another shortcut from within a personal shortcut. I do this a lot because I can create a shortcut using the complete suite of shortcut commands, then when I convert to shortcut from within the home app (or just create a personal automation) I just add the run shortcut option and choose the regular shortcut I created.

The point I was trying to make (perhaps not too eloquently) is that once you convert to shortcut you do have the ability to run another shortcut, and that shortcut does not have to be a personal shortcut allowing you to use the full capability of shortcuts. So, for example, I can build an automation based on motion being detected and convert that to a shortcut. As Stephen mentioned in this case you are limited in what that (personal) shortcut can do. What you can do instead is after the control my home option (e.g. when motion is detected) is ask it to run another shortcut which can do anything you want.
@@NS3-k I guess I am not making myself clear. The automation would not be within the Home app, it would be within shortcuts. Shortcuts has an action called "Get the State of my Home" which allows you to detect the state of many devices in HomeKit. Then if a certain state exists (using an if statement here) you can do whatever shortcuts allows. The point I was trying to make is that you can run another shortcut within a shortcut. So, if you are using a personal shortcut to get the state of your home, if that state is a certain value you can then run a regular shortcut which gives you more options.

This a great series. It’d be great to see a Siri conversation one using menu actions. I have one when I get home it’s triggered and prompts what I’d like to do listen to music or watch tv.

I've been trying to make this shortcut/automation for awhile, maybe you could help. At a certain time, I want a notification to come up and ask me if I'd like to log health data, with options being different things I can log. If I'm not ready to log now, I either want to be able to snooze or even just leave the notification in my Notification Center so I can just interact with it when I'm ready. Right now I'm using "choose from menu" which works great, I just don't know how to snooze it or leave it in my Notification Center for later if I'm not ready for it when the automation runs.

I am searching for a shortcut to scan multiple QR Codes and Barcodes to add them to a list which will be sent out by email. This is for a packing list and therefor there should maybe be a question after each scan if I want another scan or stop and send. If you could even take the lets say 6 first letters or numbers to sort the product by name and categorise that in the email even better. This is to collect serial number and amount of items scanned by type.

Hi, you programmed your device to lock when it reads the NFC tag, Will it lock some other device as well even if it has not configured any shortcut? Or it will only work with device on which the shortcut was created?

I have an automation requirement. I want to use a smart plug to put a device in timeout. I have wifi router that I want to go off for 30 minutes then cut back on automatically. 1. Tap shortcut "Wife Timeout 30 mins" 2. Router plug power cuts off for 30 minutes 3. Router power cuts back on automatically 30 minutes later.
So you can put the router on a smart plug, and then create an automation like this using a WAIT command, but after a few minutes that can get flaky. Not sure of another way to do it at the moment
Can you program an NFC tag/sticker to function like the single turn NFC antenna found in the Gen 2+ Apple MagSafe wallets? For example, it would be nice to slap an NFC sticker on my Apple MagSafe Battery Pack and write the NFC to report the last known location to Find My App after it was removed. I dont really want to dig out the NFC antenna found in the Apple Wallets... ha
Hm, you could create an automation that when you scan that NFC tag, it gets the current location / address and saves it to Data Jar...will set this up in my next Shortcuts video!

I bought a pile of NFC tags a while back with the intention of sticking them all over the place. Then I realized there's nothing an NFC tag can do that a simple shortcut cannot do on its own. Just seems like an unnecessary extra step. Am I wrong?
I’m having an issue configuring the “Send Photo” shortcut. The shortcut is stalling on “Select Photos” and won’t open the Photos app for me to select anything. I checked my settings to see if that was a permission between apps needed, but did not find anything. Does anyone have any thoughts or help?
Is it possible to create an NFC tag that automates a HomeKit scene, but isn't a personal automation that way another family member with an Andriod phone can also scan the tag to run the HomeKit scene?
Good question, unfortunately NFC triggers are only available in the personal automation tab. A better option might be to get a HomeKit button this way whoever presses it can run the scene or automation. One of my favorites is the Aqara button, it does require a hub (the E1 is very inexpensive) but they've been the most reliable: amzn.to/3PhA4zk

You may need to remove the automation from the first iPhone, but you should be able to scan it with multiple devices and program different actions without an issue. I'd use the built-in Reminders actions to automatically add items to a list like that.
@@beardfm no luck. I can set an automation for phone one and from phone two it won’t read it. But on phone two if I go to set up a new nfc automation it reads it to write over the tag instead of reading phone one’s data
