You don’t like tree plantations? Not being rude but where the fark do you expect wood to come from? At least we’re not demolishing native forest like other countries. Anyway the trees are replanted.

Yes pine plantation are generally replanted, and in parts of the country native bush was cleared to plant the stinking things, also as rabbit control and because of soil deficiency making the land, in the past, unusable for livestock. Look up bush sickness.

Exactly.. maybe we should be like usa and cut down their native forests??

Interesting take on NZ. A word on the goats. First - at some point do a farm stay - may help understand how the rural sector views life in NZ - completely different to the urban folk. The goats need a short lead s they don't get tangled or try an jump a ditch or fence and get strangled. Some reason the shelters are in a pyramid - it prevents the goats from jumping on the roof (which they will do if the roof is flat.) Sure as eggs is eggs if on a chain they will get caught up. The farmer will put out water and move them at regular times - the goats will be a family pet so pretty happy and looked after. If not on a chain they would wander off and be shot as they are a pest and eat native plants. Being on a chain or lead is like having a notice saying "I m a family pet don't shoot me!" Hope that offers a different view.
@trudimclaren2609

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say! Yep, they definitely get moved regularly and come into a proper shelter at the end of the day

Don't let the goats out...they destroy native forest. Short chains so they don't get tangled. Water is provided, moved regularly and they have adequate shelter .. legal requirements even if not adequate for you lol

NZers like baked beans on toast, its simple, un-ostentious and cheap. In fact that is one of the cons of NZ. Fabulousness, extravagance, artsy flair, have traditionally been greeted with suspicion and mockery, its just across the board. Take our old brutalist architecture, for instance. Hospitals and universities look like cement WWII forts. There could have been colour, pizazz, but no. Everything is sensible, plain, needs to blend in. Just enough to get by. Conformist.

can i just point out that most early western movies I've seen (made in the USA I might add) & the many western novels I've read feature beans as a staple breakfast food of early Americans (& perhaps Mexicans re: Barrito's etc) Surely you must of seen cowboys sitting around the fire having beans & coffee?

So many things that are mixed up in this one…. The prescription pill thing isn’t how you described it, that’s only in the USA. Those ads are fairly rare, limited and they don’t tell people to just ask/tell their doctors what to prescribe -ie proper personal medication, it’s only for basic painkillers where there are different options. Not really sure what you’re talking about re the goats, that’s not particularly common at all. Likewise the sleep out thing is hardly that common, you might see it v occasionally with older teenagers. Also v confused what you’re saying about bye… what English speaking country doesn’t say bye short for goodbye? You’re right about dairies, they are how you described your assumption of them, they are mostly for bread, milk and ice creams… maybe lollies for the kids on the way home from school. Other than that just emergency supplies when you run out and can’t get to a supermarket for some reason. Marmite and Vegemite are equal offenders, some kiwis are Vegemite people, some are marmite people…some are neither. But there’s not a majority for Vegemite. As you mentioned it’s Aussies who are mad for Vegemite.

You've got to do a Baked Beans "taste-off". Watties B/B are too sweet for me, Heinz Imported English B/B are too watery, Heinz "English Style" B/B hit the spot for my taste - nice and savoury. You can always put cheese and/or your favourite sauce in to make them your own preferred bespoke breakfast (Marmite/Ketchup/Worcestershire your call) and if you can ...do them in a saucepan instead of a microwave. Thick Toast with lots of butter ...nom-nom-nom

@paulprice1705

The sauce in NZ Watties Baked Beans, particularly decades past, was very sweet, compared to the American version of Bbeans. When I first had French Toast back in the 70s, it was topped off with little blobs of tomato sauce instead of any Syrup. I didnt have Maple Syrup till I was well into my 20s back in the 90s - Im sure it was here in NZ, we just never had it in the house and tomato sauce was a sweat and savory flavour. Even our current half sugar version of Baked Beans is sweeter than in most countries. Same old reason, corporation thinks sugar is cheap, sugar is sweet, sugar is addictive, NZ especially back in the day you cannot sue for just about anything so lets pack that chit in there no matter the health consequences... Laws and guidelines and overwatch has helped change that over the last few decades. Radiata Pine is the species of pine you see everywhere. It grows more than twice as fast here in New Zealand than any other place on earth, so its a good cash crop and NZ company owns the 2 largest Radiata pine Forests in the World, 1 here in NZ and 1 in Canada if I recall right.
@Mcfreddo
@Mcfreddo Год назад
I HATE New Zealand's sweet stuff. It's so horrible and horrifying. You can't even get decent mineral water that has it's sugar cut. I have to do it myself and cut it if I want it.
@paulprice1705
@paulprice1705 Год назад
@@Mcfreddo Absolutely, its slowly changing with soft drinks offering lower sugar, and sugar free options. Back in the day (and now with full sugar option) soft drinks like Coke and Fanta had something like 40+gram of sugar per 375ml. To equate that, that is like having 12 teaspoons of sugar in a large mug of coffee. Adults are supposed to not exceed 12 grams of sugar per Day - that is 3 times the daily in one drink. Regardless of how gross that is... how can anyone tell the difference between even 6tsps and 8tsps in that quantity. So why is there 12tsps of sugar in that mug in a commercial product. What purpose is it there for? When it is known to be very damaging to peoples health when over consumed. Is it's addictive qualities? Again you cannot tell the different between half that sugar and that much sugar in the liquid and governments literally dont care here in New Zealand about this, they give little speeches and encouragement... while taking all the GST and profit tax off those companies. And GST and profit off dental clinics on adults. If I remember right, Thailand's version of Coke is about 12% of the same sugar content by law. I cannot believe governments do not understand that if they reduce the consumption and therefore profits they get off these very damaging products, the tax dept will still get that money from somewhere else. People will still spend on other items, so why continue to let the health of Kiwi's deteriorate with diabetes and shocking dental outcomes. Sorry in a rant mood haha.
@Mcfreddo
@Mcfreddo Год назад
@@paulprice1705 Well they won't do a sugar tax or have a simple traffic light system. I have to say the reduced sugar is replaced by either an alcoholic sugar (still has calories, but much better) or an artificial one. They are still sickly. I would have a sweetness tax. Yes! They bang on about personal responsibility when it's a communal thing. Those companies have a responsibility. Frighten them with class action litigation if that were possible and they would also change their tune! Far better to legislate a standard and a 'taxometer' system for health.

Baked Beans is an English thing that is still done in NZ and Aussie. Personally I have never liked them. Marmite is also English, if I have it I put cheese with it to tone down the flavour… or use it to make a beef casserole more rich tasting. Vegemite is more bitter and I won’t eat it by choice. Almost nobody lived in a caravan or sleep out, unless overcrowding in the home.

Don't get the goat thing at all. Farmers or property owners using goats this way care deeply about their comfort and well-being. Free range mostly, but will transfer them short term when required. Your really going to hate this. Dogs used for hunting wild pigs specifically are called working dogs. If they can't perform meaning they don't show the courage breed in them are shot on site. These dogs are feed kennels provided thier only job hunt. They know nothing else. As a child I befriend these dogs as pups as they grew became beloved pets, much to my fathers dismay. When a dog or dogs failed to return from a hunting trip my father would explain they now live with Mr snow another farmer down the road. The point I'm making is rural life is about survival not niceties. Try a farm stay experience or better still spend a week on a real farm this may give you a better understanding the kiwi "No 8 wire" thinking. Love your vids love your bubbly personality. Hate your kiwi accent. LOL 😆 🤣 😂
