They sure knew how to tackle large-scale projects in the Soviet Union. They could divert rivers, build cities where there were none before, conquer the North, create new “seas,” and urgently lay railways in permafrost conditions. Today, we will talk about the most incredible and abandoned places in the Soviet Union. These forsaken projects, born in the Soviet era, seem to speak to us about the country’s former power and ambitions.

I love how many of these structures were designed to take direct nuclear strikes and yet 50 years later, you shouldn't go there because of structural instability.

Why would someone go muddin in a small place like that? Looks like the land around it might be better. -- People are retarded.

The madness of the Cold War can still be seen thousands of years from now. People will continue to be amazed over time. The money wasted in this way could have made the Soviet Union a rich country. And a little less aggression was needed to compete because everything would have been much better if the money had been well spent (and NOT just in the pockets of the thugs who mostly make up the Russian government)

this happens with any object from the Soviet era that suddenly becomes popular with people, for example: an excavator (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1t6Y_hiPsb4.html) or Galich. radio mast A-330

@@henkholdingastate and how many debts were forgiven to different countries or how people disposed of valuable property after the collapse of the USSR, when entire fleets of ships (Azov and Black Sea Shipping Companies) or factories and plants were simply plundered for a one-time enrichment of individuals, about weapons that suddenly disappeared, well, you know from the movies (for example, Lord of War)

It needs to be pointed out that those Siberian railways were built by political prisoners. People who did nothing wrong, sometimes literally, and were sent to the GULAG and worked to near, and sometimes actual, death.

@@StevieZala this video is not about gulags and what's even more it has no slightest connection to this topic. That question is just as irrelevant as someone asking about Hiroshima bombing under the video of the abandoned places in America.

In a socialist system, so much waste occurs because nobody is really accountable to the final product. Systemically wasteful practices are rampant because of lack of accountability.

That lighthouse is awesome. The collapse of the Soviet Union is I believe the greatest travesty of our lifetimes. So much wasted. Sad really. Add all this up and they probably could have lasted a lot longer. Who knows though. What a waste.

They simply waste time and resources that are meant for others as well. Superpowers can do anything, no matter whichever ways others suffer and perish.
