Don't freak out.. I'm still fixing up my salvage sailing catamaran, another boat fixing video is almost finished and on they way. I had a chance to go for a nice overnight sail in Seawind 1190 sport. Small Craft Warning, we broke a dagger board - it was awesome.
I thought I'd share what I do to avid seasickness. Nothing is worse than getting sea sick. If you have something that works for you leave it in the comments.

Great to see you raising the topic! Ginger is also said to help, and staying off dairy foods! Also chewing/sucking on lollies can help for some. Personally I just try to relax, and similar to you, I don’t try to balance.You’ve pretty much covered anything else I can think of.......💭 Hope this helps others! Seasickness is very debilitating! 😎🏖🌴☀️🇦🇺

I get sea legs but I've never gotten sea sick up until this point. For some reason I'm always scared I'll get sea sick for the first time at the worst possible timing..

Great video! Again! I never, never had any type of sea sickness in my life, what ever the boat was, from small to large, from sail to motor, and sure did cross seas, very heavy seas... next for me should be trying the drone outer body experience! that looks really cool!

Thanks for the tips!! I’ve owned a small 17 ft fish and ski boat for 20 years but we were always on small lakes so no motion sickness!!👍🇺🇸

Crying laughing. You had me hooked at the sea sickness thing. LOL That advice about steering...I find that when I'm on deck and can see the waves...no problems for me...but inside the boat...woah. I like these other techniques...one day I will try them. Thanks for this.

When I crossed the North Sea on a friends power boat, in rough conditions we both got sea sick and he don't get sea sick. For hours. I decided to get up and look at the shipping lane to take my mind off of it. The sea sickness went away just like a switch turned it off and my hunger came back. The sea sick ess didn't come back on that trip.

Good video Bryan! Thanks! My son and I usually take a non drowsy Dramamine and we are good. Also move with the flow of the boat and look out at the horizon.

Interesting to hear your take Brian. I am a commercial diver. I sometimes get sea sick. Guaranteed if I have had a few alcholic beverages the night before (dehydrated) and I have a few opinions and experiences that can shed some light on the mechanics of sea sickness. Twice in my life I have managed to turn off sea sickness like flipping a switch. Once I was very sick and it was my turn to dive next. This means locking a 25 pound helmet onto your head for 3 hours. Not the ideal situation to lose your lunch. So I went to the back of the boat and encouraged myself to vomit, hoping it would help get it over and done with.I did this by concentrating on the horrible feeling and mentally urging it on. Only seconds before I was to be sick it just stopped. Gone. Completely. It definitely is mind over matter. This proves it. The other thing I noticed is If the pressure in your middle ear isn't identical in both ears the differential pressure causes sickness. Ie, blocked eustacion tubes.inflammation in the ear canal ecetera.

I comment on quite a few videos that concern sea sickness based on my therapy specialty. If the pelvis and lumbar are distorted it adds another complexity. there is a reflex position of the mastoid which holds the balance organ and the eyes by the sphenoid. Therefore many people already have a discrepancy between the eyes and balance before the boat motion starts making it worse. This harmonizes with your advice of standing at the helm or hanging onto something and allow the hips to sway with the boat. The motion resets the muscle programing that is holding the distortion. Those that have a chronic problem with motion sickness could benefit from craniosacral therapy.

Im interested in what your saying here but I don't understand your English. Maybe you need to make a video with a white board and some pictures to better explain.

I think you should be speaking to Elon about being on that first flight out to Mars Bryan... Not only am I convinced you could successfully pilot the ship, and now we see, overcome the rigours of interplanetary space travel with some mind over matter techniques and a little cotton wool... but when the craft inevitably crash lands on the red planet I can only think of one person who’d be able to singlehandedly build their own moon base, fix up the ship, which to anyone else, would seem totally beyond repair, before happily flying it home... All while recording the whole thing on RU-vid. 😉👩‍🚀 😎👍

I think that is the most creative elaborate compliment I have got on my channel so far. You don't know how many times that made me smile the past few days day dreaming and working out the all scenarios of that impractical fantasy.... most of which end with me dying of the common cold (not COVID) after returning to earth. Still every time my phone rings I'm hoping it's #ElonMusk with the offer 🚀

What a bunch of .... I think some of your explanations why don't have much validity, but some of these methods I would definitely try. Like that one ear plug tip. Are people with an earache less likely to get sea sick? (try finding someone on a boat with an earache - could take you years.) but the one ear distraction? Yeah, definitely worth a try. One point is that I think the general practical consensus is that you have to be doing whatever it is before you start to feel queasy. I'm a sea kayaker, hoping to become a sailor (so that's how to get more than 3 miles off shore! So I clearly have some bunk to clean out.) About once a year I get seasick kayaking. It's usually the waves that day are just a bit..... I don't know. Bigger can sometimes be a factor, but usually it's just something a bit off. My best method is ginger candies I get at Trader Joe's. And yes, before I launch. As we get older our inner ears start to lose fluid and we are more likely to lose our balance. The test is close your eyes, lift one leg and see how long you can balance. I'm 64 - not very long (and yet the kayak - about the same as 15 years ago). I'll bet older people as they experience more and more loss of balance have less and less sea sickness. But no data. At an amusement park once we rode the upside down roller coaster. Great fun, scared the pants off me. There was no line so we rode it again. I had the idea that fighter pilots do maneuvers like this all the time, so this second run I decided to anticipate the moves. I pretended to steer. It was like driving my car, loop de loops, the whole deal. It was still fun, but it definitely took the thrill out of it. So steering? Yes. Good tip. And the baiting the hook? Yep. That'll make me sick too. I was explaining sea sicknesses to a couple of moms in my son's class that were on a whale watching trip. As I said to look at the horizon, I glanced briefly at the pattern on one of their shirts. I started to get sick. I wonder too if someone is an invited guest and not crew on a multi-day sailing trip, if they took Dramamine or Bonin before they got on board, took a nap and then woke up a couple of hours out. Might that work?

Here’s the skinny, if you get car sick look out of the windscreen then your mind will know what’s coming. Look out of the windscreen of a boat your mind will eventually learn. He so on point about being the drone thingy

I agree 100% on the fpv. I used to fly quads but went back to my roots and fly fixed wing fpv. You can definitely give yourself that roller coaster feeling. I've made myself feel "Gs" and had my hands and feet sweating like crazy. Good times. I also think something like a DJI is almost standard issue on a boat anymore. Not sure about the pass going into a strange harbor? Send up the mavic and check it out!

Remind me not to buy a Seawind. I sometimes get seasick,but it passes. I was sailing a friends Hylass 44 off of the Philippines in very rough seas. Andy went below and baked a birthday cake for his then girlfriend. I remember looking down to the galley as he had himself wedged in there stirring the batter. The cake was quite good.

For a few of us its just the opposite. The depth of your discussion on how not to get seasick. Some of us can't figure out "how someone gets seasick". Maybe its because I feel best when out on the water? I'm not sure why I never get seasick, I've even had to sit on the rail during a race in someone's barf that was seasick and never felt sick. Ocean, lakes, diesel fumes, it never bothered me.

Try being on a troop ship with 250 sick soldiers and 50 sick marines. Having grown up on a sailboat when I wasn't cleaning the barn, I had the job of picking up the food trays abandoned with a little extra on them.

David man that's cool video man it gave me some insights on how to stop seasickness when I finally get there, and the drone bit that was extra cool, David said sure a man that's lived on the sea or been on the sea been around boats I have a question for you is it hard or impossible to get insurance for a fear of cement boat that has been manufactured by a company I was looking at a Hartley Fijian 44 footer and I was wondering what kind of a problem I would have to ensure that because if you can't insurance on the world can you go anywhere in it?

Ok...so what is a dagger board?
@AdamC5013
@AdamC5013 3 года назад
It’s like a vertical wing or a fin in the middle of each hull that goes up and down to increase or decrease the draft of the boat. When it’s down you get better performance of a deeper keel. When it’s up you can go in to shallows. They’re nice!
@HansQuistorff
@HansQuistorff 3 года назад
It is a board used to stab through the heart of a boat to pin it to the sea.
