Join me for a chilled evening in the local fields and woodlands behind my allotment site in Sheffield to hunt down some wild foods, edible plants and delicious mushrooms that you can find in early August. We'll find boletes, chanterelles, and plants that have uses for food, medicine and bushcraft!
Please remember to never eat any wild food, be it plant, fruit or fungi, unless you are 100% certain of its identity and always cross check your resources. Always do research before taking herbs internally, especially if you are pregnant, have severe allergies or a weakened immune system. Finally, remember to take only what you need from places of abundance, and always leave plenty for the wildlife too.
If you’d like to follow along for more foraging and forest garden content, you can join me over on;

thank you - really informative. Also I remember the council weed spraying rosebay willow herb to kill it off. I didn't know it was edible

Worth mentioning in case anyone is desperate for greens in these straitened times, a large amount of sorrel can kill due to the oxalic acid content, the same thing that gives it the acidic lemony taste. The case I am thinking of was a bloke who really liked sorrel soup and had about a pound of the leaves in soup. I am always cautious of oxalic acid because of the "precipitating needle crystals from your blood that tear up your kidneys" thing. I really want to avoid that. Smaller amounts may lock up minerals in your food by making insoluble/indigestible oxalates. Vinegar and lactic acid from fermentation are much healthier acids.

Haha they may have had a few stories to tell!!!! 🤫🧚 just many years of walking and picking things up off the floor to look a little closer. I’m also a bit obsessive with my hobbies and don’t do anything by halves 🤣
