PS. I totally agree about Top Gear > F Zero. Finding Top Gear with manual for literally $1 kickstarted my SNES collecting. Total steal and I treasure my copy even without a box
What might be 20 years old for some is new for others, I just found out about Chaos Seed this year for example. What truly is admirable imo is adding spoiler warnings for not a BEST endings video but a WORST endings video instead
I hate how people treat spoilers nowadays. As if every person has experienced every possible media the moment they came out. That entitled, “it’s been out for a WHOLE WEEK, if you haven’t seen it yet, that’s your fault” bullshit. Some people have actual lives and can’t experience games, movies, books, comics, etc. the second they come out, so anytime someone respects spoilers, regardless of how old, it deserves a massive amount of respect. We appreciate you, SNES drunk.
You totally should have added Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story to this list, you don't even get an ending in it, it goes straight to a game over screen, the same one as if you die normally!!!
I think by the standard of most of these games, Super Metroid should have been on the list too. Great game, yeah, but it has just as much ending as the spoderman game and R-Type 3
@@Prodmullefc What??? Super Metroid is among the the best. The baby Metroid returning and sacrificing itself to save you when all seems lost, reflecting the maternal theme of you vs Mother Brain, followed by the action packed escape sequence bringing it all full circle. Plus, it's all delivered in-game, instead of a slideshow and text like the majority of games at the time and even now.
@@HydefHyde I only said that because of why SNESdrunk said the R-type ending was bad. But I never thought of SM as having a playable ending before, if that's what you're saying. I'm assuming you mean everything after when Mother Brain hits you with hyper beam would be the "ending" then. Which is an interesting way of looking at it. (Although, tbh, I myself would say the real last boss is Ridley since he's harder, more fun, and cooler than the sorta obligatory Tourian stuff.)
Suda51 actually said something recently about that Fire Pro ending. Something along the lines of; he wanted the game to have multiple endings, both good and bad, - But last minute he decided to scrap the idea and instead wanted there to only be one conclusive outcome. When telling the designers to rid the multiple endings, they opted to scrap the 'good one', leaving us with what we have today. Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JgggpKr931U.html
Yeah,I dont buy that he completely left it to his coworkers which ending to pick. It smells a bit too much like him(or well,a younger and edgier version).
That was... really a shit decision by the designers, I can't help but imagine what led to this outcome "okay boys wrap it up, we need to decide on one ending, and fast because I gotta get something to eat, what do you guys say?" "the depression one" "yup, definitely depression" "i just wanna tell the guy paying for our game to fuck himself" "aight boys, pizza time"
@@IAMNEKOMIMI Actually I respect the designers for going with the bad and depressing ending. Its actually one of the better endings for a Wrestling game.
@@ArshesNei8 "Hey dudes... let's grab a burger" No, not "I want you on the Secret Service" or " Here's a million" or even "Marry my daughters Barbara and Jenna"... you're rewarded a burger.
My brother and I loved T2: The Arcade Game and bought it for the SNES when it came out. The ending was a huge letdown after struggling to beat the game using the controllers we got the "bad" ending: a black and white picture of John Connor with text saying that he was alive but research will continue at Cyberdyne and that Judgement Day was still possible. After starting over we managed to destroy every single computer and filing cabinet in the Cyberdyne level and were expecting something better of an ending. NOPE. Same picture but now in color and text stating that Cyberdyne was destroyed and that the future was what you make of it. We were quite enraged.
Same thing here, but when I totally destroyed Skynet and got the good ending, I felt fulfilled. It was outrageous for me to expect quality back then. Some of my best moments were playing ljn games in a pre-avgn non biased environment.
The 7th Saga ending is actually pretty good! In the beginning, you're given the quest by King Lemele and he mentions that he has high expectations for you. Mid-game, you end up traveling back in time. When the king in the past said you'll be reborn as one of his descendants, you're actually reborn as King Lemele who started this whole questline in the first place.
Yes, but having played this game and even though it is one of my all time favorites I have to agree that the story is difficult to understand on your first play. On top of that, I guess people didn't like the ending since spoilers, it kills you anyway. More interesting to me is, what happened to your companion? He was just standing there next to you while Gorsia took you lol
It's a fun and rewarding experience if you bum around Bonro for 30 levels, dueling apprentices, and getting free equipment from the ones you befriend. The story is Esoteric. It's about the 7 seals. You are the one to release them, and therefore go back in time to seal them.
LOL holy hell that #1 ending made me choke on the water I was drinking, omg wtf are you serious?!? This is why I come here, SNES Drunk, to see the things I'd never know existed otherwise.
It's pretty dumb that this dude acts like it comes out of nowhere. Your character struggles with depression throughout the entire game and it only gets worse and worse as you progress through the story and more horrible stuff happens to/around him. At the end of the game, his friends are dead, his coach is dead, and his girlfriend has left him. I guess in 1994 it would be a little shocking for a game to end with suicide, but... did you even *play* the game before making this list?
That Fire Pro ending was a hint at what was quietly going on in wrestling (hence the Von Erchs). It was quietly neglected and tragically still is. It was a premonition of sorts to boot. Look at the wrestlers we've lost to suicide in years past. Scary accuracy ahead of its time.
@@BryanX64 no bro. There are many who sadly committed suicide. Look up deceased wrestlers and there are many who committed suicide in some way. The Chris Benoit tragedy was one of the worst to date. It was murder and suicide.
wait, WHAT? i never beat the game, but that was the ending? well... fuck me sideways with a turtle flavored porcupine, i'd have been pissed if i did witness it.
I was waiting for it. It took me years to finally beat just to get a fade to black, "you escaped Jurassic Park" or some nonsense. If I recall right, you dying had a more interesting screen.
Growing up with 8 & 16-bit games I learned to see ending cutscenes as a bonus and good ones as a rarity. I'm only disappointed if the game already has a nice intro.
Wow, the ending to that wrestling game was really messed up! Otherwise really fun video and thank you for the spoiler tags. (I still want to try to actually beat 7th Saga.) Maybe try game openings or intros next?
I would add Jurassic Park. The ending where you just fly off from the island after a 2 hour grind playthrough... I think I snapped the cartridge in half after that.
Oh man I agree with you. If that game had a save or password feature it wouldn't be so bad. But nope, it has neither. Beat that game once and never again.
I really like the Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special story mode ending. Is something you can expect from a movie and that's cool. My bad endings to choose in SNES = Jurassic Park and Super Double Dragon :(
7th saga gave me my first taste of major betrayal. It's been a while, but if I remember right the dwarf took my items, and ran off with them while I slept at an inn. Hard as nails game, but it was fairly unique.
Honestly, I really kinda don't get why Fire Pro Special is #1. It's a sad ending, but it had a lot of effort put into it compared to everything else on the list, and as mentioned, it's pretty much the kind of way a lot of wrestlers go out. A game having a dark tone doesn't make it bad; hell, the fact that games can deliberately and successfully evoke emotions other than satisfied happiness is probably one of the best arguments for games as a legitimate artform, and it's kind of bonkers and awesome that I'm saying this about a WRESTLING GAME of all things.
One thing you forgot to mention about 7th Saga is how convoluted the last act of that game got. So the King who hired you to find the 7 Runes was actually the Evil Demon guy that the King defeated years ago. The Evil Demon guy possessed the King's body and hired the lot of you guys to go out to find the 7 Runes that are the key to his power. After finding all 7, Evil Demon guy returns but God says "You can't defeat him, so I will take you back in time to defeat him in the past... for some reason." So you defeat the Evil Demon guy in the past but that only seals him away for future generations to deal with, but you DIED so you get reincarnated to be the King who defeated the Evil Demon guy in the first place... WHAT THE HELL!?
Honestly, Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special deserves to be among the best for how dark and sombre it is. Were there many other games that doubled down on such heartbreak and misery at the time?
Lego Speed Racer Lego Star Wars Lego Jurassic World Lego Avatar The Last Airbender Lego Indiana Jones Lego Overwatch Lego Spongebob SquarePants Lego Minecraft Lego Harry Potter Lego Super Mario Lego Toy Story Lego Pirates of the Caribbean Lego Prince Of Persia Lego Spider-Man 2 Lego Ben 10 Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Lego The Lone Ranger Lego Batman Lego Cars Lego Simpsons Lego Hobbit Lego Lord Of The Rings
I dunno if I'd say *worst*, but one I always hated was Ninja Warriors. The game is nut-punchingly hard, and to top it off at the end all three playable robots self-destruct! I guess they were literally created as weapons and don't seem to ever show any emotions or feelings, but it still sucks that they couldn't get a happily-ever-after teaching more peaceful ninjas or working in construction or something. I remember little preteen me was actually legitimately sad for like three or four days over it, it was one of the first pieces of media I'd ever consumed with such a bittersweet finale.
I actually liked the ending in Ninja Warriors, as it explains that the androids where literally weapons without consciousness, I also like the fact that the people realized that it was all for nothing, as Mulk (the one that send the androids in the first place) continued the advancement of the androids making an even more powerful army, thus becoming another dictator. Gotta love that last line: "Some things never change"
Great Video as always! But you really forgot about Jurassic Park. It's not a bad game, but has no password or saving function and after I let my SNES run for two whole days, because I couldn't make it through in one run, all I got was this lousy textbox...
I came here just to talk about that crappy ending. Such a long and painful playthrough to get just a "Congratulations, you escaped Jurassic Park" screen. Oh, man... #Facepalm
Man, not only is Separation Anxiety's ending that bad, IIRC you can even get into a brawl with the bosses from Maximum Carnage while the credits are rolling in that game, and it turns into a survival mode. So they went in completely opposite directions with the endings in each game.
Yeah Maximum Carnage was a much better game the only thing missing was a 2 player mode. It's like they added 2 players on Separation Anxiety in exchange for presentation and game play.
Honestly, it's one of the most memorable endings in the entire 16-bit era. Few games at that point, and few games even today, will actually end with a truly bad ending. There is no "good" ending - that is the end of the story that they wanted to tell. It must've taken some serious balls to do that.
6th! ...and now with that out of the way, before watching/opening description: Jurassic Park! Huh, not there? I've always felt that one's ending was a real slap in the face. Basically the same short mode-7 sequence as in the game's intro, except playing in reversed and with added helicopter sound, followed by a text screen saying _"Congratulations, you have escaped Jurassic Park"._ Roll credits. A complete and total letdown of an ending for a long(ish) game you can't really beat on first or second try (unless using a guide that tells you where the items are and what to do next) and that has _no_ save feature or password system of any kind. As a kid I borrowed JP from a friend a few times but never managed to beat it back then, even with a couple of attempts where I left my SNES running for long periods in order to not lose my progress. With emulators I then got to witness the ending in all its lacklusterness.
My copy of Jurassic Park froze twice, in the same place, a long way in. It happened after accessing a terminal on the ship, exiting the terminal screen, and turning left. But I didn't get discouraged, no. The third time through (A 6 hour marathon) I beat it. For that ending.
Same here. Could never play through the game back in the day, because of the lack of a save feature. Through emulation and save states, was finally able to finish it, only to be massively disappointed by the ending. I imagine the devs just figured no one would actually play through the damned thing, so why bother making a proper ending.
Thanks for showing me the ending for Separation Anxiety because I suck and can never get past the 2nd level. It's basically YOU'RE WINNER but with Carnage...
sadly this game designer designed the WRESTLINg ending of CHRIS BENOIT even before it happened... did the character in the game kill his wife and kid before the soicide ? Cuz if so it IS the chris benoit ending.
Correction on that 7th Saga ending review: that creature you killed at the end of the game (Gorsia), it's literally Satan in the japanese version. And the entity that you were helping and will be born as his descendant (Saro) it's literally GOD. So, you destroy Satan, that managed to destroy your body with his final attack, so god imortalizes your soul, making you his descendant. I mean, it sounds way better than what you told us in the video. Nonetheless, great video as usual
I have learned so much! I will include so many of your phrases into my daily repertoire, such as "quarter-ass"! Stellar video, thank you so much! Great video
Out of curiosity: are you speaking about the Star Trek game where Q drags you from the future to posses your father's body for a chance to save him (your father) from a time fart? And ALL because Q was bored and felt it would be amusing to watch? He even posses other characters during your adventure just to diss at your failures. That one per chance?
I still don't know. That ending is great. Understandably SNESdrunk likes happy endings, but wouldn't the rare dark ending be a welcome change now and again? Especially in a type of game you wouldn't expect it in.
I think that ending for Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special belongs on the list of Best Super Nintendo game endings. It's super realistic, and almost foreshadows the story of Chris Benoit.
@@SNESdrunk It's possible. Maybe we didn't have clinical evidence for it back then, but people knew taking shots to the head and concussions weren't good for a persons long-term health. By the 90s there was plenty of anecdotal evidence from what happened to old boxers and football players from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
@@BigDaddyCola I agree, I think the Issue SNESDrunk has with the ending is that it's the same has the original NES game. Just a lazy cut and paste, like my college papers Lol
Super fire pro's ending is the best, I love it. Its as obscene as the endings on wwf wrestlemania arcade. It makes me laugh every time and is my favourite snes ending.
Another bad ending is the Lion King for SNES. The ending is a cutscene, just as that, Simba on the pride rock, really? I know, everybody saw the movie, but come on! And talking about Marvel games... well, Spider man X-men and arcade revenge is... ammm... the game is not terrible at all, is just okey, but man!! is hard as hell, and the ending is literally " Let's go home" really?! my reward is LET'S GO HOME?? Oh fuck!!
I am far less concerned about spoilers to this video than I was about the last one. ;) But I admire the dedication and service you show to your viewers in providing time links anyways. Great job as always.
One game to mention was Pirates of Dark Water for the SNES. The animated series never had a story ending, so they decided to do the same thing with the game as well. I was SO mad when I finished that one. I loved that show, and hoped they'd try something different...😒
I LOVED the Fire Pro ending, what a unique twist to all of the Rocky-style typical wrestling hoopla. Great twist for a fun bunch of games; Suda51 also just had a sequel scenario written for the newest Fire Pro. You play as the protagonist's son. Man, the Worst SNES ending that always comes to mind for me is Outlander. (Like the video, don't read ahead, if you care): The game's insanely difficult, but cool. You scratch, struggle, and claw your way through the entire game, beat the final boss, and find your dad. He comes at you and says some gibberish, you say "wait...what?", he says more gibberish, you say "oh no...this ordeal has driven him insane...okay, let's go home, Pops", and the credits roll.
Another world / Out of this World's protagonist Lester Chakin dies. Yet it had an epic final scene of reg-winged dragon thing carrying him into the sky. Very memorable
