They just haven't learned the lines against the Scotch.. It's a very dangerous opening for black - make one mistake and white is just all over you wtih so many avenues to attack. Lots of 1300s won't know some fairly basic openings
I just watched a video about this trap where you fork the queen and the knight with the pawn and when the queen recaptures, you loose your knight because you can no longer pin the king ans the queen cause your rook is undefended.

That line of the scotch gambit is called the Haxo gambit. I play it all the time, im also 1300 and my opponents fall into the traps almost every time just like this. Haxo gambit OP
