Fantastic show last night! Mr. Sklar, you a monster! From my seat all I could see was your right hand but I was just mesmerized watching it. Especially on the slower songs. "12th of June" was one of my favorites. I also especially loved your playing on "Pants is Overrated". Every inch of The Belly Up was just so blessed by your good vibrations. We just loved having you, Lyle and all His Large Band in Solana Beach. Wish I could come back and see it all again tonight!
Good morning Lee and all .After 220 miles of excellent riding through sweeping forest roads and open farmland in 30°c. Greetings from Devin, Slovakia. Fabulous quiet place on the banks of the Danube. History happened here, in 1989 in a symbolic act of the iron curtain being removed. Cheers Barry 🎸 🏍😎
Bicycles Are Efficient It takes less energy to bicycle one mile than it takes to walk a mile. In fact, a bicycle can be up to 5 times more efficient than walking. If we compare the amount of calories burned in bicycling to the number of calories an automobile burns, the difference is astounding. One hundred calories can power a cyclist for three miles, but it would only power a car 280 feet (85 meters)!
I like the Belly Up. Saw a few bands there. Saw Robyn Ford there with his 3 piece band. Great place! I've been to the coach house too, saw Lee Ritenour there. I'm with you Leland, I'd rather go walking! 👍
When I go surfing I generally end Belly Up. Young personal trainers have something to prove, “give me 6 months and I’ll turn you into Arnold Schwarzenegger”, I reply “no you’ll give me a heart attack!” Have a great show.
That's my local joint. It's 30 minutes from my house. I see lots of live music there. Good crowds. Great location. Easy parking. Good memories too. Backstage with Graham & James Raymond. Hanging out with Lucinda. Love that place.
Lucky you! It's on the Far Side for me, though I love small venues like the Baked Potato, McCabe's, the Troubadour ... but $$$ usually puts its big fat foot on the booking scale. It's also harder to get the sound right in giant venues. It can be good in one section and not so good in another.
Very cool venue! Thanks for these great video tours, Lee. We’re excited to be seeing you in a few weeks at Point of the Bluff, in the beautiful Finger Lakes.
I love these kind of intimate venues. ill bet youll have a great couple of shows here. Nice vibe about the place . Lyle just strikes me as one of the most gracious and likeable people anyone could wish to meet. Its a good little family all round. I love these videos .Thanks Leland. Enjoy the rest of your tour.
Thank you for showing us around, the art work on the entrance way made me feel comfortable and seeing the capacity size made me remember all the smaller venues of the late 50’s and 60’s that I would visit. I did notice the Prevost Bus and a current 2023 Liberty Coach will cost a well healed traveler $2.7 million. I did see too the Peterbilt 579 Tractor which brought back memories of working on those big rigs years ago.
Peter Brötzmann, 82, Dies; His Thunderous Saxophone Shook Jazz Traditions and Artist. John Corbett, co-owner of the Corbett vs. Dempsey gallery in Chicago, who began curating exhibitions of Mr. Brötzmann’s artwork in 2003 wrote of Peter Brötzmann: “He really could not deal with people who were false, with art that was false, and with music that he felt was false,” “He was quite intolerant of all those things.” New York Times 7/4/23
Hi Lee! I've been to the Belly Up in Solana Beach numerous times to see the likes of Junior Brown, The Marshall Tucker Band, Dweezil Zappa, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker and more! Enjoy the venue and have a safe 4th!
When you turned the corner out back at 5:51 I was expecting to see a few roadies tootin on a reefer' hahah. Great videos. Brings back great memories of being on the road. You are a legend.
This is the kind of venue i would like to gig in. Small and cosy. I think music is being better in smaller venues, it gets more personal. Almost a club gig.
Oh this up my tree love it..the decor..is that real shark.or what..have a great time here omg...I wish I was there..where will be after rhe 4th ??? PS WILL THERE BECPOSTER OF YOUR GIG FORCSALE ??????
So nice to see my old stomping grounds. Lovely venue. Always a good gig to be had there. And San Diegans are gonna be with ya. I saw Andy Kaufman when I was a little kid at UCSD. That was the milk and cookies show. He led everyone in a bunny hop around the campus. Later in an interview he said it was one of the best if not the best show that he’d done. Anyway, Happy 4th Lee.
I’m really digging the surf 🏄♂️ vibe, people are so gracious there… had family out there, so thankful to have gone to visit. Great vibes as usual Lee, so enjoy your videos. 😎
Oh man….Solana Beach. We Used to go down there regularly to visit my father-in-law. Really pretty area….lots of good memories….never hit The Belly Up though. Looks like a cool hang.
Nice little venue very cool Play local maybe you'll get to run by the house and see the pups in the wife for a night? That's neat Henry's going to be there and he's back Shame what happened with cecilio Rodriguez how he ran afoul of the law but it is what it is. Happy Fourth of July be safe
Nice joint to play. Not as "stif" as a theater. Intimate. People eating, drinking, having a good time while listening to a great band. Can you elavorate upon the different vibes between a big venue and a small one like this? Does it bother you people is not a 100% focus on you guys? I wonder which venues you like better. Big audiences or few and intimate once. Have a good ride these couple of days. See you tomorrow. Greetings from Mexico City
Mark As a kid until '53 when visitors came we went to the train station to meet them and send them off. Their roar and power coming down the track was immediate and bodily felt and heard. Diesel Power Trains: The Electro-Motive “F-unit”: Born in the autumn of 1939, it would be produced, in eight different models, until 1960 and would number more than 7,500 strong. More than any other locomotive, it would be the force that “dieselized” the railroads of North America.
I like the mirror ball to be on too Leland. I just like knowing it's happening, like having glow in the dark stuff, and sparkles. 😂 If you've got a special effect, may as well have fun with it! I can imagine Russ in the roll of Snoopy now, singing Suppertime. 😄❤
Saw you walking north on Cedros before the show 3July then perhaps posting up 📲 your video while sitting in front of what used to be our Solana Beach Roller Rink before the earth’s crust cooled 😂. You and Lyle talking about your videos during the show confirmed my suspicions. I texted Lyle a photo of you perhaps during the post-production process. And by the way…what a show!!!
Lee, all of your tour posts are so interesting. Considering all of the equipment, transportation, personnel and hotel logistics, do you think it’s much harder for artists to clear a profit? I hear costs have risen substantially. Given that, I can see why your tour itinerary is so packed.
Lee, I saw you perform with Phil at MGM Las Vegas on Oct 27, 2018. I even have pictures and video of you playing. I really want to see you guys again. I had the best time of my life! We had great seats on the side of the stage. Nick was awesome on drums! When will you ever play a live performance with Mr. Collins again? I liked and subscribed!
One of the best venues anywhere in the world. Intimate but not claustrophobia-inducing. Great acoustics and vibe. People in San Diego are generally really nice to visitors and super chill. I've seen countless talented local acts like Cash'd Out and Metal Snake here, as well as The English Beat, America, Snoop Dogg, Psychedelic Furs, Built To Spill, and Tyco. Have fun, Lee! Wish I could join!
Used to go in the early 80's and while it has changed, they have managed to keep the same vibe, very local, very intimate. I do miss how it used to be open during the day as a beach bar until about 7pm when it changed over into a venue. Time it right and you could beat the cover charge!😁
That Amy Keys at 5:30 ? I remember her from Phil's tour like 25 years ago. She looks like she has soooo much fun. I love the Belly Up.. I'm about a half hour from there.
🏖️🏖️. Thanks for another great tour!!!! From the outside it looks like at least one of them might have been a quonset hut; do you know if that's the case?
They used a lot of kwonset huts of various sizes in WWII and some of them are still around and "repurposed." I don't know if they had a base in that location or not,, but there definitely were (and to some extent still are) a lot of them up and down the coast in Southern California.
oh man i would KILL to see you guys in that little place!! looks a little dangerous though, watch out for flying shit!! why are people throwing stuff at us on stage right now? i mean, WTF?
