MSI in this situation is at the mercy of component manufacturers. There is nobody in the world making "breakthrough" 18.4inch monitors because they are so unwieldy and ridiculous. Therefore all the technology is going into 17.3's and 15.6's which is why the 17 and 15inch laptops are all making strides in their integrated tech. The 18inch laptops are all hung out to dry basically with this shitshow of a monitor panel. There is asus with their own custom panel which looks great but its laptop and strange power connectors and how it must be charged and cooled let its performance down

Nah, even a 1080 can't max out games at 1080p 60 fps. I have a 1070 and it drops way below 60 fps in watch dogs 2 at 1080p, probably not that much better with a 1080.

this comment is a bit dishonest. Anybody who is even remotley into pc parts knows that SLI means dual nvidia graphics cards and the titan is the flagship card of nvidia. I've had mine since September 2017. Time for it's second cleaning soon and maybe a storage upgrade. People thought I was crazy spending so much on a Lappy, I say No way. I'm sad that one day it will die and there are currently no new laptops with the awesome keyboard. Mine has the cherry brown. My favorite things are the sound, the speed and the keyboard. It's been a good reliable friend for 6 years soon. Love it. I use it for gaming but mostly programming in emulated retro then running unthrottled to do the impossible for back in the day.

Small use case: Those who use their systems and require mobility with a stand alone hub at home. The system is strictly for horsepower.. it's a small market for sure.

KommandantKavu ok but at that price point it makes no sense not to include a better screen. If you get that kind of a device to have portable horsepower for your 4K od whatever home hub, then you wouldn't mind forking out another $100 or so for a better screen. At least 1440p or something. This would widen the targeted market as it wouldn't be portable horsepower with a shit screen anymore.

I recently got this laptop - from a person who didn’t know his computers I got for 500$. Only missing the HDD and CD drive It still had SSD. I only had the one power adapter - it runs on high fine. I’m only limited by the amount of games on the Laptop - 1 game at a time It’s one of the best monster laptops I literally stole in regards to price - when I bought it it was still marketed at 2699$. Remember I bought it for 500$

if u actually looked at the bench marks, the gtx 1050ti cud hardly manage 60fps+ on max settings on AAA titles eg. rise of the tomb raider. So the sweet spot for 1080p wud be gtx1060imho

The reason they didn't have a 4k monitor is that they don't make that in an 18.4 inch display yet. Who the hell games on a stupid 18 inch monitor anyways. When you can have 30 inch monitors in 4K. One of the nicest features I found on this is the headphones port. As you don't find a DAC interface like this on laptops usually. It sounds amazing and I might actually start using this with my home studio setup. As to the cost $5,000 is still cheaper than the Acer Predator X & Asus GX800. Both of which are pushing anywhere from $7,000 to $9,000. So this is a bargain considering what you're getting inside. No complains thus far and everything runs maxed out and without lag.

I know this only has 1080p, But people need to remember 4k is still relatively new thing that is out there like how it took 15+ years from 1990 to get to 1080p so 2020 probably when 4k is very common and not so hard on your hardware gaming.

I didn't realize it had two, however I wouldn't be against it if the OR operator (this -> | ) could be pressed without using shift. I'm jealous of Finnish keyboards that have comparison and the OR operators on the same key for convenience.

This is basically a VR rig, where the screen/keyboard is tossed in to make it a quick set up if you want to bring it over to friends. Probably why they skimped on the monitor since it would mostly be used to just do necessary setup and stuff..

finally a review on my laptop :D and as previously stated, it is not portable. the backpack is the quickest path to needing back surgery. but games look good on it, and the double shot pro adapter is a good way to double your bandwidth.

it ain't supposed to be used as a laptop in the sense of the word. It is a computer you take on a trip (work or holiday, second home), where you connect it to a TV or monitor and setup it up like you were at home. I have a similar one and I have never ever used it with battery only or have ever typed on the onboard kexboard. It's just my computer that I take with me, where ever I travel for work or whatever. Imagine boarding a plane with your mid-tower case, then you know why there actually is a market for those machines.

Why would anyone buy this over the Sager NP9873? The Sager is cheaper yet has the option for a 120hz 1080p OR a 60Hz 4K display. The keyboard is better placed, it has a track pad in the expected place, there is a real number pad, two thunderbolt three ports, yet it is well over a thousand dollars cheaper.

On larger laptops it seems that companies just add optical drives because they have extra space and it does make sense a battery too big and you can't bring it on an airplane also overheating

At home you can use this laptop as a desktop, I use my MSI GT80S 6QF as a desktop. And at LAN parties I don't need anything more then what the laptop got.
