Hey Salty... Just found your channel, and girl, I can tell you one thing: you have thru-hiker blood coursing through your veins from head- to-toe. It's easy to spot. There's that flowing with the trail instead of fighting against it, a steady resolve to press on, even when the going gets hard, a smile and cheerfulness that hike along with you, and that always easy-to-spot demeanor that screams out, "I love this." Looks like you're the real deal. Congratulations on reaching 500 miles. Love your editing, music choices, and eye for detail too. Well done.
LAZY. Hey. In 2017 I attempted a thru hike. Only made it 770 miles before the foot pain stopped me. Same as yours. The ball of your feet. It ended my hike. I spent a year doing research and finally found a specialist who was a triple crowner. I seen him and he told me Hoka One One Stinson 5 ATR shoes with SOLE medium ( not size but thickness ) insoles. You heat them to mold your feet. In 2019 I started over at Springer with these shoes and inserts and not ONE issues with me feet. Not even a blister. 3-11-19 8-26-19. FIREPLUG class of 2019. Awesome 5 hundo grats. I like you have a foot that just won't cooperate. Scarring between ball and heel. I want to think this is from the Altras I have. Three different pairs. I wear a 10.5, up sized to a11.5. However I have recently did a lot of standing while working as of 10 months or so. I do remember a snap while in a kneeling position working in a kitchen. I do find rolling a Rawlogy ball, both small and regular helps. My heel hurts a lot. Hoping it goes away. I am 50 years old and dream of a thru hike so yeah gonna need 2 good feet. Hey Salty.. Your cemetery detour seems to illustrate that both the trail in the woods, as well as the trail of life, can end up at a cemetery. In my hiking, it seems I frequently come upon an old cemetery, often in the middle of nowhere. Usually there is a fence around it. But I'm not sure why, since the folks on the inside can't get out, and the folks on the outside don't want in.
Hey! Been following since day one in Austin Texas. Perspective, for me anyway, is that if I walked north 500 miles I’d be somewhere south of Wichita, Kansas. If I could walk due East I’d be somewhere short of Jackson, Mississippi. Southwest would take me into Central Mexico at 500 miles. And I’m hundreds of miles from any border or State line. Pretty dang awesome what you’ve done. Courage is definitely not the absence of fear but what we decide in the presence of fear. Perhaps you could get audible copies of The Hobbit or its following trilogy to remember those journeys. Remember, Hobbits eat two breakfasts! Congratulations
