Considering Nightcrawler is her son, I'd say yes, she can indeed get pregnant. She also had a son by Sabertooth. Abandoned them both, but took in a teenage Rogue that she has no blood ties to and raised her into adulthood.
The body replication piece is not exactly true. She can breath underwater if grows gills and fly if she grows wings. These abilities are very difficult, but she has displayed the ability to do it.
From what I've seen of Mystique, she can mimic anyone she sees. This is shown in the first movie when fighting Wolverine, since she doesn't grow the second set of claws until he does. I don't know if that's comic-accurate, but AFAIK it is. I always though it was odd that she copies fingerprints and retinas, since she should need to see those details in order to reproduce them accurately.
If we're talking about the initial concept, she would've actually been the biological father, but the concept was scrapped leaving Nightcrawler's other parent unanswered until Azrael came along
I actually really don't like the storylines where Mystique as the ability to shapeshift into animal forms. I think it makes her alil op and anything outside of a humanoid form has always seemed a bit dumb. I have wondered if Mystique being pregnant hinders her ability to use her powers, I would think so. agreed... to be honest I don't care for her being able to replicate retinas and finger prints either... if she can't replicate their DNA, that would mean she would have to perceive their retina and finger print to mimic them... doesn't make any sense. Everyone being like "isn't she Nightcrawler's mom?" are missing something. Nightcrawler is her son, yes. But for a very long time she wasn't supposed to be his mom... she was supposed to be his DAD. Marvel chickened out on that origin and walked it back, but that's how it was originally supposed to go.
Which would have made no sense biologically, assuming she can't alter her DNA and has XX chromosomes. She can only be the biological father of a DAUGHTER not of a son, because she would only be able to produce X sperm cells. Unless their biology works completely differently from non-mutants, which is probably not the case, since they can even have non-mutant children and all. And she has to be unable to alter her DNA, otherwise she'd just become non-mutant upon shapeshifting and not able to change back.
@@geekley As far as I know her chromosome layout is never established. With her powers there's no reason to assume anything about her DNA from the way she typically chooses to present herself.
Actually that is a plot misdirect. Sabertooth is Kurt's father. Destiny once forced Mystique to take the form of Kurt's father, and she turned into Sabertooth. Azazel has vaguely similar powers, so people (in the Marvel Universe) simply assume.

And you need to remember that Marvel LOVES to use the plot of using similar powers to ask the question of wether or not this person is related to that person. Polaris and Magneto, anyone? It helps that I have been reading X-Men since before Gambit was a thing. Don't take this as gate-keeping or anything; there's so much history that younger readers can't be expected to keep up. I have not watched this video yet, but I know the quick and easy answer is yes... The reason is simple. Mystique and Azazel had a son named Nightcrawler. She ended up abandoning him at a monastery when she could not bring herself to kill him at birth. Because he was raised by Christian monks, he grew up very religious, and even etched his skin with religious symbols and scriptures in Latin. He later joined a circus as sort of a sideshow attraction and became skilled in acrobatics, and implemented his teleportation into his acts. Despite being around Raven on multiple occasions, she never once indicated to him who she is. Kinda sad really... There is actually a lot of tragedy in the XMen storyline.
1) Mystique actually can mimic Wolverine's claws; the movie and comic versions both have done this, and they are pretty sharp as they are, for all intents and purposes, the same as any animal claw (they are made from the same materials as her fingernails). However, the reason she can't copy his claws has nothing to do with DNA; Wolverine's claws are implanted AND are adamantium. While he does have natural claws, and has used them while he was deprived of adamantium, his adamantium claws take their place. 2) Mystique and Destiny's love has been renewed since Destinty's resurrection. 3) It was sort of glossed over that Mystique can change gender, including reproductive organs.
sorry no, wolverine had claws before the adamantium. they are bone claws. There is a comic where Magneto strips the adamantium from Wolverine and he still has claws. In the movie Xman Origins: Wolverine, kid logan had bone claws. Xmen Days of Future Past, Logan was sent back in time to his past self before Striker and the adamantium, he had bone claws then too. In wolverine 3 the silver samurai used his adamantium katana to chop logans adamantium claws to get at the bone marrow within them. His claws were bone with adamantium around them.

Do you even know how genes work? If Mystic could change her genetic code she would loose her powers, because she would be fundamentally altering the building blocks that make her well her. Even if she could mimic James Howlets DNA perfectly, it still wouldn't give Wolverines adamantine skeleton, that's not genetic, anymore than a pacemaker is genetic. And yes, she can mimic mutants powers, as long as those powers are purely physical. like beasts strength and reflexes, Angels wings, or Nightcrawlers prehensile tail. It has been hinted that Mystic is kind of a super matriarch to the mutants, with lots of modern mutants having her at some point in their family tree, but this to my knowledge has never been outright confirmed. "You cannot just throw a science world into your explanation and hope it makes sense."

Besides Peter Parker has his own Rogues Gallery that's almost as big as Batman's and 9 out of 10 times they stay a threat in the confines of NYC. If it was an X-Men Villain, he ran into the fight unknowingly or they invited him to the fight, plus Spiderman is a known Public Figure with the Mask On. Mystique might very well be more of a dangerous espionage threat than Black Widow due to her Abilities. Natalya is on the radar most of the time by world governments like Silver Sable but Mystique can Change Identities at will down to the fingerprints (think about it, she can easily start WW3 no problem). Raven is almost always under the radar.

I never knew Rouge was adopted... that does explain why she has an entirely different power set and looks nothing like her mother but I never knew who her father was. I thought Rogue and Nightcrawler were half siblings sharing the same mother but having different fathers. Anyway... also worth mentioning Nightcrawler is one of the only mutants who was born with his powers. Most mutants only develop once they hit puberty but Nightcrawler has had the same physical features since birth. His father has the same physical characteristics and powers but is red skinned, the blue skin was inherited from his mother but not her powers. There was a series where Forge made Nightcrawler a holographic projector that gave him the appearance of a regular human though because he only have 3 fingers on each hand rather than 5 he constantly looks like he's doing the live long and prosper sign from Star Trek.

If your suggesting it's because his father is a demon rather than a mutant, no he isn't. He only LOOKS like a steretypical demon which adds another element of fear and prejudice towards them. This also kinda feeds into Kurt himself being Catholic and the self harm he's inflicted because of those religious beliefs about what he is that aren't even true. Some mutants can blend in as regular humans if they just don't use their powers but mutants like Nightcrawler face extra prejudice because of how they look so even when they don't use their powers people still hate them. The funny thing about the religious comentary with Nightcrawler and his father looking like stereotypical demons is that literal demons also actually exist in that universe given Ghost Rider's origins and existing in the same continuity as the mutant fake demons.
Mystique needs more daughters. Not adopted like Rogue. They would be those that she was pregnant with and gave birth to. One daughter of hers should be a mutant just like her who has in inherited her mother's shapeshifting powers, but are much more stronger where she can even hide her own scent from Wolverine and Sabertooth, along with her own powers of substance mimicry when she touches minerals and elements (i.e., gold, gems, stones, etc.) and other related materials where she can alternate her skin to be as hard as whichever element. She will look just like her mother in appearance (skin, hair, and eye color; both human and mutant). She would also inherit her mother's "silver tongue," but more persuasive and is a member of the X-Men and an occasional member of the Avengers. She would later become a spokeswoman and political ambassador for the X-Men on behalf of Xavier's approach to promote peaceful coexistences and equalities between both humans and mutants together with pro-mutant humans fighting against anti-mutant sentiments and bigotry.
The most recent X-men movies really butchered the original source material and stories. I don’t mind changing stories so they aren’t too cliche and keeps people from already knowing what’s going to happen but damn did they mess the stories up horrendously. And Jennifer Lawrence was garbage as Mystique lol. I think Jen is a really good actor for what it’s worth, but Fox, the Director, or Jennifer ruined Mystique horribly! First off, Mystique was not a good guy and definitely didn’t lead the X-men. In fact she led the opposite of the X-men in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants lol. Literally Mystique in the comics is one of the most lying, cheating, deceiving, misleading, manipulating X-men character ever period! But they “TRIED” to make her this heroin who was friends with Charles Xavier since childhood lol. She literally turned herself into another woman in order to take a man’s wealth. She married and manipulated him and then cheated on him on multiple occasions and one of which was the Azazel. She then gave birth to Nightcrawler then sent him on his marry way. But she adopted Rogue and had Rogue stealing and really almost killing as well. She had Rogue take all the powers of the Avengers and beat the Avengers single-handedly. Then she took Captain Marvel’s powers and damn near killed her. The only reason that Fox “TRIED” to make Mystique more popular was because of the star power that was Jennifer Lawrence. Which in my opinion was a huge mistake! Me being someone who’s ACTUALLY been reading comics going on 30 years now and not going off of those trash ass movies saying “Jennifer Lawrence was awesome as Mystique”(because she wasn’t) knows how blasphemous it was how they did Mystique in the movies. Mystique is supposed to be a Fem Fatal type of character who used sex, or her sexiness to get what she wanted or needed and that’s why she had so many kids. But the movies made her totally something else. And another reason Jen wasn’t the right one for the role: if you noticed the makeup, prosthetics etc etc started becoming less and less with each movie. It’s because Jen started complaining about the makeup and didn’t want to do it anymore so they would do as little as possible with the makeup. Which I could understand but she should’ve known what she was getting into and if not she didn’t need to look any further than the original X-men movies to see how much time would go into the makeup and stuff.

Storm didn’t even have her accent and she showed none of her combat, or her leadership skills at all! Storm is literally one of the strongest hand to hand fighters in the X-men team period and they didn’t show any of her leadership skills whatsoever! When Cyke was going through his problems and left the team Storm was literally the leader of the team and was one of the most powerful and best leaders they ever had but she was relegated to a glorified side character and didn’t show none of her stoic yet caring leadership qualities. Then Jean, smh Jean was pretty much literally just there to be a reason for Cyke and Wolverine’s to bump heads. While we’re talking about Cyke, Cyclops is and was literally the de facto, quintessential leader of the team. Cyke is literally one of the greatest strategical minds in “ALL OF MARVEL COMICS” when it comes to battle planning Cyke has literally been labeled a genius. When it comes to battle rhythm and planning his legit ranked at the top with Captain America. You can just read the Dark Reign Dark Avengers vs X-men comic to see how brilliant Cyke is. He made Norman Osborn look like an idiot on live Tv because he was that much smarter than Osborn. He planned out every single strategy in that battle down the T. He had Prof X and Emma combine their abilities to take Sentry into the white hot room to make him start good crazy and had to leave, he had Danielle Moonstar with the power of Valkyrie to take out Ares he had a live news crew their to record every single moment so the media could see what Osborn was trying to do to the mutants and show the world who Osborn really was. Had Wolverine and X-23 take out Omega, and Daken because they were really the only ones who knew that like that and could also withstand their abilities, had a whole group of mutants take out Mimic because he couldn’t copy all their powers. He literally had Magneto and Namor following his orders before he was that great of a leader. Cyke has beaten Wolverine on like 3 different occasions by himself. He has beaten a whole group of X-men by himself in training. And this group included, Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, and Wolverine. They couldn’t even touch him because he was so skilled with his prowess and ability with his Optic Blast. He can literally bounce and ricochet his Optic Blast off of just about any surface of he needs to. I know you had to see the comic panel where a Sentinel was attack I the school and Cyke used the full power of his Optic Blast and pretty much disintegrated the Sentinel and said get this trash off of my lawn and Wolverine could only say “You know what Summers every now and then I remember why you’re the leader of this team”. But instead of showing stuff like this they made Cyke into a whining baby just so they could put more spotlight onto Wolverine. They did Nightcrawler Justice in like one movie then forgot about him lmao. Colossus wasn’t Colossus smh, Iceman wasn’t even the wise cracking ladies man he’s supposed to be, Pyro wasn’t even Australian and acted nothing like he does in the comics, Mystique as bad as she was in the original movies she was NOTHING like she was in the comics. at 6:33 when he said wolverine eventually defeated her, she still beat him up after that. Her claws are just extensions of her body that she created meaning if they got cut off she wouldn't be fingerless. And if you watch the full scene you'll see just how easily and fast she recovered after that

Couple things. Her death was relevant in Dark Phoenix because it was motivation for Magneto and Beast to get revenge. Also Dark Phoenix was not great and should probably be totally retconned. : )
For her abilities she can copy looks by looking voice by listen to 10 syllables finger prints scars etc from touching them she can't just carbon copy everything by looking she has to interact with it too

Even if Mystique had a piece of wood pierce her heart (9:00) or even rip her heart apart so what? You just said Mystique had a healing factor similar to Wolverine's though not as powerful. For Wolverine having his heart ripped apart would be a minor injury and it'd be repaired in minutes if not much faster.
Considering how she can accurately mimic so many other functions. I dont see why not. Supposedly, this was one of Chris Claremonts original ideas. He intended for Mystique to morph into a man, and impregnate Destiny, so that they could both be biological parents. But that was shut down due to controversy. Claremont was already pushing the limit, with making Mystique the first openly bi-sexual comicbook character. And it seems like his trans-angle was a bit too much for the comics code at the time.
10:30 Complicated retcons take a lot of time to contrive and explain. It's probably a lot faster to watch the old movies before writing the new ones. I suspect the people who wrote the Dark Phoenix movie later got a job writing prequels for Amazon, or whichever studio did the Rings of Power.

Technically, it's not impossible to figure out which person is Mystique because of her psychic signature constantly being in flux. It's really easy; just have Professor Xavier and or Jean Gray try to read the minds of the people in the room and then boom you figured out which one she is automatically, /because/ you can't read her mind. It would be much more difficult if she turned into someone else with the same ability tho. At that point...idk, lie detector test?

During Chris Claremont's run of X-Men, his original Nightcrawler Origin Story would've involved Mistique shapeshifting into a Dude and getting a woman pregnant. (I did not make a word of this up. lol) The idea was too controversial at the time but given how "progressive" the current year Marvel is, there's a chance they'd make it canon somehow...
