14 HOURS on a Romanian Sleeper Train (Brasov to Timisoara via Bucharest) 🇷🇴

Having braved the bears and wolves of Tampa Mountain in Brasov, it was time to depart for Timisoara and continue my journey through soviet history. And what better way to travel (on the eve of my birthday) than on a 58 year old Romanian sleeper train!?
I caught the CFR Călători train from Brasov to Timisoara Nord, via Ploiești Sud and București Nord stations.
With no air conditioning, 14 hours and 3 connections awaiting me, things became even more complicated along the way - would I make it to Timisoara, or be spending the night in Bucharest? I did need to call on Uber to make my connection to Bucharest, but undeterred, I settled into my cabin and even found time for an impromptu foot spa along the way...

P.S. Given my former professional background as a fund manager, personal finance is something that I strongly believe in.
I'll be working on something much bigger in the coming months to help educate people around how investments work, and my personal story before I embarked on my adventures.
In the meantime, you can see which stocks I'm invested in, and how well I'm doing, via the link below:
💹 My stock portfolio (real-time): etoro.tw/3QJ6bcF
Although I've been a client of eToro for a number of years, and would remain so regardless of any affiliate terms, I do have an agreement with them which pays me a fee if you happen to open an account via the link (it costs you nothing extra and is very welcome towards my travels for a something that I'm using anyway).
Whether or not you have any interest in this stuff is up to you - and I wont ever promote it directly in my content. But if you do want to learn more, then you can see what I'm doing in real-time there, and it might perhaps inspire you to take control of your financial future.
(As its the serious world of finance, I'm also required to share this riveting disclaimer: eToro is a multi-asset investment platform. The value of your investments may go up or down. Your capital is at risk. Other fees apply.)

Must be a brand new video, 30 min ago uploaded, but no you have ONLY 59 Subs? What?? Man this video is such quality it's crazy! Well, at least you got one more sub now. Keep up the good work mate (sub nr 60).

Thank you very much brother! I’m glad that you enjoyed the product of how I spent my birthday 😆 It is indeed a brand new channel, I quit my job and sold everything I had to embark on this less than a month ago. I’m now going at it full time and have a bank of new videos to post (just managing the editing and cadence now as a one man band!). Appreciate your encouragement and always good to meet a fellow northerner. Spread the word and we’ll have a beer sometime when I’m back towards the Pennines

Nice video James. Roger Moore would have had the chains off that door and playfully around Miss Goodnight’s wrists in the blink of an eye. Daniel Craig however would have bludgeoned you to death with them! there’s mileage in a foot spar vs haircut travelogue…

I had no idea! I’ll definitely check it out next time - it was my first time on a sleeper of any kind. As for the 8 hours, I guess you must have kids? 😆

Funny how you keep saying Soviet. Lol. We went over this already. 😂

Hey Adriana - these trains are presumably soviet style trains though, supplied during that era throughout Central and Eastern Europe, not just Romania? If this is indeed their own domestically manufactured train then I am mistaken! But like France supplies trains now in the U.K., and Brazil supplies trucks in Poland, I guess it was a standard thing. Anyway, these videos (my trip to Romania) were recorded within 3-4 days, and later edited and uploaded. So I hadn’t seen your earlier comment at this point :-)

@@InvestedAdventure I understand. Also, know that the railway system in Transylvania was actually established under the Austria-Hungary regime, I think. It’s also very possible that the train equipment predates the communists because that regime only came after WWII and the railway technology was in fashion as a mode of transport before then. Just saying. But it funny anyway. I had a blast watching this one. I remember in 2018 we took the sleeper train to Cluj and my 15 yo daughter asked if we’ll be “served breakfast.” Honestly, I lived in Romania between 1967 and 1997 and never even occurred to me that there would be breakfast. But she’s used to transatlantic flights where they do.

I thought it was a novelty, and enjoyed the experience. Even though it was like stepping back in time, it got me to Timisoara on schedule 👍 you should see the trains in Britain - that’s if they’re running, of course!!

Is good for the environment mate, also far cheaper to let them grow than to pay and pay and pay for someone to keep weeding them. That's the least of our infrastructure problems to be honest.

Numbers 1 and 2 refer to classes. With that level of intelligence, I wonder if it safe for you to travel alone.
@InvestedAdventure
@InvestedAdventure 11 месяцев назад
Aha! We don’t have a “second class” in the U.K., it’s either standard/economy, or first/business. And we often use the alphabet to denote carriages to avoid further confusion between your seat number and the coach you are in. Learning about these differences is part of the fun of travelling alone ;-)
