The original book is A Hundred Thousand Billion Poems or One hundred million million poems (original French title: Cent mille milliards de poèmes) by Raymond Queneau. We discuss his work as an example of using mathematics as a shortcut - a favourite topic of Professor du Sautoy.

This makes me want 2 things to exist: 1. Recordings of each line and an app that will "read" these poems all day long (for when you run out of audiobooks on a roadtrip), 2. an addon for the OEIS that reads sequences as poems

I assume that Raymond Queneau originally wrote these sonnet building blocks in French. So who translated them into English and how did they decide to solve the problems of the unavoidable bits that would have been impossible to translate, at least not without losing the rhymes? Or did they just follow the idea but come up with their own completely unrelated set of 140 lines?

To anyone who's played the classic Monkey Island games before, all this sounds very familiar 😁

Thank you. May we know where this English translation of the full work may be found? Regards.

Is it just me or were there a preponderance of generous Turks here? I mean fair play to them.

That . . . was terrible poetry. I'm sure it'll be more meaningful once I've seen the main video.
