14" or 16" MacBook Pro... Let's Settle This 

I initially bought the 14”. I used it for a week and it didn’t matter what time I used it. I just felt like I made a bad decision. I ended up returning it and buying the 16” and it was the best decision I ever made!

It's really all about the compactness of the 14" for most people, the 14 is already a kind of a chunky laptop to carry, and the 16 is even bigger so. If you carry your laptop everyday to school/work, take it in and out of your bag all the time etc. It really starts to get cumbersome with big laptops, and these are the times you start to appreciate smaller and lighter laptops. But if you mostly work at home or don't move your laptop very much the 16" is definitely going to provide the better experience.

The typing critic is spot on. The weight and size don’t really bother me but I don’t like the typing experience for some reason.

i shifted from a 15 inch MacBook to 14inch MacBook pro and tbh i wish i chose the 16th inch one cause i can only use the 14 inch macbook comfortably when its way too close to me. I am a music producer so mostly i have a midi keyboard in between. My take is if you mostly work on your laptop without using any display (which im using now) Go for the 16th inch one but it you occasionally use your laptop without a screen or music production and video editing is not what do you then u can go with the 14inch

dude thanks for the vid. i was planning on the 16” for video editing, but I felt crazy cause everyone was recommending the 14”. Thought you were gonna say the same thing but I really appreciate your alternative opinion!

The 16” is a portable beast. A lot of ppl don’t realize that because they compare it to the 14”. Don’t do that. Just see it for what it is. I have the 13” M2 Air and 16” M1 Mb pro. So I know this arena very well. The 16” is a portable desktop. Period. It is so powerful and has a huge gorgeous screen, yet it’s portable!! Every time I open the screen I am WOW’d by how massive and beautiful the screen is. Tried editing video on my 13” but it’s way too small. You hunch over and the time line is like trying to grab onto a straw with a set of tweezers. The 16” solves that instantly. I’m not discounting the 14”. We all change sizes over the years because change is good. I’m a little more experienced though with having both a 13” and 16”. I see it like this…why fly coach when you can fly first class? Would you rather watch a movie at home on a 32” tv or a 55”? Of course you will choose the larger screen and better sound. And that’s how I see the 16”. It is just a beautiful beast. I can edit content by connecting my 16” to a monitor at a desk, then if I feel like sitting outside, just grab the laptop and continue outside. The screen real estate is that good. The 16” is as good as it gets. Edit: I don’t recommend making such an expensive purchase on a MacBook without visiting a store first and seeing them in person. I can’t stress that enough. Take 30 minutes to drive to the store and use them both. Don’t make this an online decision where you have nothing to go by except for other ppl’s videos. This is too big of an investment and lots of ppl end up returning and going for a different size. You will have your answer instantly just go to the store first. You will have this laptop for years and years. Get it right the first time.

That is a fantastic video with some - new to me - aspects i did not think about before. I might get a 16" for the first time in my life next round because of this.

I bought the 16 inch because I felt like the bigger screen would be way more comfortable in some situations, which it is But after carrying this beast around for a while I regret not having a lighter and more compact machine Especially since I use it 95% of the time plugged to an external monitor And the difference in the performance is close to nothing

For someone who is actually significantly mobile with their laptop (walking around with it), the 14 is still a lot better. The 16 is just way too big to fit in a college environment IMO.

16 inch M1 Max is incredible. Just scored a BRAND new sealed in a box for $2000 on ebay. It runs Linux virtual machines amazingly as well. It will last me easily 5-8 years if not longer. Incredible speaker. Its not big enough honestly. Thermals are amazing with the 16. My fans almost never even come on. Great video and dead on. Its not that much bigger

Don’t know why not the old 15” on pros.. it is a great middle term between the 14 and 16 inch obviously

I started watching RU-vid videos and people had me second- guessing that decision. I like how you compared the two differently than other RU-vidrs. I am going to get the 16". Thank you.

I picked up a MacBook Air M2 for portability to complement my 16” M1 Pro MBP. Was considering a 14” when I next upgrade…but maybe I shouldn’t.

I have had 16 inch laptops forever. Finally caved and tried a 14 inch and love the smaller size. However, I spend a ton of time with it docked. I am not a huge fan of using the laptop solo all the time unless I have to be portable. So different needs. The bottom line: I like that you don't take much of a hit in performance if you choose the smaller version (it's almost negligible).

Using it alot on the go the 16 is a no brainer for sure. The extra real-estate is huge.

I have a laptop of 12 years (Windows Laptop). I primarily do Software Development activities on it. Which Macbook Pro do you recommend M3 or wait until M4 comes out? I think 16" is something I would go for, my previous Macbook I had at work was a 15" and never had issues with it.

this was one of the most practical videos that really helped to understand how this makes more sense for me. Really well done. There's more real estate, slightly larger screen, it fits better on the lap. I think for some of us (myself) that are getting older in the years, i think the larger screen is simply better for my aging eyes. Thank you. Peace.

as I age I have to tell you. small anything is not good for my eyes. I have the M1 14" and thinking about upgrading to the 16" M3. Bestbuy has it on sale now due to the M4 about to drop next month

I had the M1 Pro 16 and loved the bigger screen but I have 2 work laptops so even at home space is a premium. I traded it last year for the 14" M3 Pro as that's the model 3 of my sons already have and I'm super happy with the 14. I wasn't sure I would be happy going down in size at I always have purchased the larger ones but very pleased and happy with the decision. I would agree it's not really heavier but definitely more cumbersome if you are moving it around a lot or if you are carrying 2 other laptops plus an iPad in your backpack.

Raw and informative video, good job 💪 As a software engineer myself, I've been using them in paralel, the 14" (got from work) and the 16" (my personal one) and although the 14" looks cute and it's easy to travel with, the 16" wins in my case too, due to the bigger screen, better airflow and overall a more natural feel for a laptop.

I ended up with the same dilemma and ended up with a 16”mbp (max 64gb 2tb) and a MacBook Air 13” (16gb 2tb) best of both worlds…

i had m1 air 13 inch, m2 air 13 inch, 15inch air m2 and then 14 inch m3 pro. I find 13 inches really tiny, 15 inch air m2 felt the best, but i upgraded to 14 for internals but i miss 15 inch m2 air, so i guess i would switch to 16 in future. The 14 inches feels cramped too compared to 15 and 16 inches.

Now my problem is do I buy the 16 inch Pro or the 15 inch Air?

I went from a 15in pro from 2014 to a 16in pro I have photos between the two comparing size. I thought the 15in was perfectly portable. the 16in is literally the same size. less depth but a tiny bit thicker. Weight was about the same too, I went to a m3 air 15in 16/512 1810$ after tax and returned it within a few days cause found a 16in m2 pro 32/512 for 1300$ with apple care and 8 battery cycles and 100% capacity at a pawn shop looked brand new even had the original box. immediately bought it on the spot. The 14in is legit too small for me. I take my 16in mbp on photoshoots and to clients I bring it everywhere just about without issue.

My understanding is that if one was choosing between the 14" and 16" M1, hat they only came with the M1PRO chip. The M1 was only available in he 13". If you were choosing between the 14" and the 16", you got the PRO chip...

Your take not a big issue lugging a 16" around. Tho you seem to have it always docked at home or work anyways? And many would even I would say the majority want the 16" tho for them it's too much a disadvantage out and about. Well for many that are carrying other like school books,etc.. or in my case a camera sling bag with camera and lenses. That cookie sheet not fitting in my camera sling bag extra 1.2lbs is significant drawback. Couple that will not fit on airplane trays is pretty much a deal breaker for me. Even tho I really...really wanted to go 16" for the screen as edit photo's and vid's. But since 80% of the time my 14" is hooked to a 27" external display not that big of deal.

The 16 didn't fit in my backpack so l went with the 14!

Brother, you need to remove that camera cover thingy or you’ll wake up one day with a damaged screen. Oh, got the base model 16" m3 pro, couldn’t be happier and never thermal throttles even with aaa games maxed out or editing multiple 4k streams all day.
