I love everything about this. The subtle distinction between characters without caricature or stereotype. Expressiveness without overdramatization. The perfect diction, lovely accent, and seemingly effortless slipping in and out of different character's accents. It's just perfect. I've listened to about half of the stories so far.
Thanks Deborah. Glad you're enjoying them. 'seemingly' is right - sometimes it's effortless, other times the magic of the software digs me out of a hole.
He's amazing! I've listened to them all time and again. I always play them when I'm going to sleep and when I'm struggling with insomnia. They're so something and help so much ❤
I mean this as a compliment, this series is an antidote to insomnia. I love your clear, steady voice and the descriptive stories. Thankyou for all the bedtime stories!
These are absolutely delightful! Thank you for this series. I am an English woman who now lives in the USA and I find your accent so relaxing to listen to at nights. Much better than watching TV in the evenings.
Sherlock Holmes Stories Magpie Audio Lestrades voice in particular is just how I was expecting it to sound, so I commend you! Watson’s voice is so relaxing; have you done all of the stories?
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Definitely and the only side effect is waking up each morning feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep. I'm so happy to have found your channel. Thank you my friend.
DAMN YOU SIR...This is the forth time that I've had to take the story back to but 10 minutes in due to your sweet lullaby voice soothing me to dreams which are so sweet. I'M DETERMINED TO GET TO THE END. What a wonderful delivery at every moment of your take on this 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 you sir are a CHAMPION and I'm definitely subscribing to you, heck I'm even going to listen again to stories already told by other's but if only to hear your spin on it which is just exquisitely executed. Thank you.
Excellent voice and accentuation sir! I have long known of the incredible skills you posses with which you read these works in such an entertaining manner! Bravo!
Ah, dearest Mr. Wagland! You amaze me again and again in how you conjure up all those characters in such a way that I can almost see them. Thank you ever so much!
A good example of how drink can turn bad trouble into total ruin. A terrifying tale. Also an illustration of how one Narcissist can wreck lives'. These tales are told in a compelling way. One cannot fail to feel something for the characters.
The Authors very last words by Holmes: "What is the meaning of it Watson? What object is served by this circle of misery, and violence, and fear. It must tend to some end, or else our universe is ruled by chance, which is unthinkable; but what end? There is the great standing perennial problem, to which human reason as is far from an answer as ever...." Punctuation is my own, please forgive me if needful 🤭
Let’s suppose ‘addictions’s are self medication for a lack of direct action where it is demanded; in this story, the adage , “ houseguests, like fish, begin to stink after three days.”, wasn’t applied. There in lies the rot. A victim of circumstance or a master of our destiny? Perhaps, both!
Greetings from Florida. What can I say that hasn't already been expressed in other comments. Masterful comes to mind. As one young lady below stated - your voice stays with the listener. I believe we should all share our gifts - so thank you for doing just that.
I can't thank you enough for making these recordings. I start everyday by reading a new adventure and your audios really bring each story to life in a way that has just made me an absolute fan of the series. Thanks a million.
These are so well done! And while I listen, no matter where I am, or time it is, I find myself in a little room on Baker Street, listening to Dr. Watson!
Love, love, loved it! you must strive to focus on the high amount of people that liked this and for get the ones that don't. They are fewer and remember, There is always something people (especially certain people...unhappy, spoiled people, lol) that would like to complain about. This is perfect. Thank you for sharing this for myself and others to enjoy! I need my Sherlock Holmes ever so often. I am so busy and getting to listen to it as I work is absolutely amazing.
Hi, your capacity for such different character voices is amazing. In addition to being so distinct, as you read the words in character you literally flesh out each personality. Kudos for your talents.
Who is disliking this?? Ive been listening to these beautifully delivered stories for a few months, you have re-sparked my interest in these wonderful tales. Thank you, these are by far the best Sherlock audiobooks on RU-vid. Great job Greg!
What a fabulous read! So great to hear someone who can produce the accents and pronounce all the place names. Off to binge-listen to all your other work!
Hello Greg. It would be a shame if I don't stop a minute to thank you for the wonderful work that you are doing. To listen to you reading these classics is my idea of the best possible "me time" when my day's work is done. Have listened to almost all now. One small request. Could you possibly care to read for us the timeless children's books of 1)Billy Bunter and 2) books by Malcolm Saville? Don't get these books anymore where I live. Would so love to hear these read by you. Many thanks.
This channel has been such a great source of relaxation, being able to close my eyes and get into the stories. i've created a detailed office in my head where sherlock lives after all this time.
Thank you Mr Greg for an exceptional rendition of a classic story your characters have true life and one can visualise them so clearly As a Holmes lover I rank you up there with Rathbone Brett and Cushing Keep up the great work We all know know now who’s the dogs bollocks of Victoriana !🏴
Listening to you reminds me of my late grandmother. She was born in Kensington and held her accent from listening to her own mother speak. Of course the pitch is different, but the intonations are there. Wonderfully done.
I can’t help but notice none if these jewels are monetized?? All the trash on RU-vid monetized but not classic literature?? I’ll be donating to your patreon immediately
It is. I didn't know there was stuff on RU-vid NOT uploaded by the creator ;-) Sadly most of Agatha Christies work is copyright still, so can't be done on here I'm afraid. Cheers
@@carlodinatale3310 as you are listening to it, your English can't be that bad - keep listening, read english books / newspaper out loud and your English will become better and better. 👌🏼
This was as delightful as ever. Bravo, Mr. Wagland. I enjoyed this very much and I thank you. I have a theory about the ridiculous number of dislikes. I wouldn't take it to heart if I were you. We can surmise that there has been some increase in views (or person's listening, as it were) as your channel has become better known. Seemingly, that has brought in new people for whom Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is only a strange name they've seen flash by on television with the addendum of the words "characters in this *film* were inspired by the works of". That is to say, many people who have never actually held a volume written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, let alone having opened and... gasp!...read one. They see the name "Sherlock Holmes" in the title of the video, click, and expect a live action film with Hollywood stars and not an exceptionally fine audio recording of one of the delightfully written stories, the more fools they.
Mr. Wagland has set the bar very high indeed. I listened to a Jules Verne reading of A JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH read by several narrators I found myself judging these readers very harshly lol.
"Ha Watson! You expressed incredulity that anyone could read another's thoughts - well you didn't say so exactly, but I could tell you were thinking that... and if I was half as bally clever as I seem to think I am, I would realise that I've already assumed my conclusion, in a a peculiar form of the circular argument fallacy...."
(Spoiler) A mysterious package addressed to "Miss S Cushing" arrives at your house and it never occurs to you to run it by your sister of the same initial who lived there until 2 months ago? It takes Sherlock frickin' Holmes to deduce that it might have been opened by the wrong person??
thank you so much for going to make a high effort for us, surely you will try to publish much more videos and histories to inspire the people for reading and set up new goals in the future
Thanks for the stories. I enjoy your narration very much. Happy to be a contributor and encourage others to do same. Do you consider yourself a Sherlockian and have you met and worked with Stephen Fry, another excellent narrator and a confessed Sherlockian.
Not being an english native I am totally agree, that the literature in english is great due to its unique atmosphere and lovely language. Thank you very much for an uncompromisingly amazing reading and heartbreaking story as well. Дякую!
I Thank You so much for this excellent channel,it's wonderful for me to listen to at night before sleep.it is so we'll done. You can figure out real fast who would take the time to thumbs down. Please bring us more of these 😀😁 I Thank You again.
Chilling, grounded story with a haunting question at the end. I feel for the sailor, despite what he did, he was pushed to madness. Thoroughly wonderful reading
I wasn't aware that Sherlock Holmes smoked cigars, but then I haven't listened to or read every Sherlock Holmes stories. I see that you are a supporter of Simon Stanhope who I am a subscriber of. Great! I have listened to most everyone of his readings, except for the scary ones, as I live alone! I laugh as I type this, but It's true. I don't want to be scared. Any ways, I am very great full that I have come across your site as I was not sure how I could find a site that presented quality readings. I have subscribed and look forward to listening to the many stories that you have for all of us to enjoy.
Cheers for such great entertainment!!! Outstanding job! I suffer from insomnia and had a serious household accident a few weeks ago, these stories are helping so much! Your voice is so marvellous and your reading so splendid that I think even my ribs are healing faster ❤️🇬🇧🌷Thanks so much!!! (Patricia, from Buenos Aires, Argentina).
I haven't listened to this one in a while and when I get to the reading of the transcript at the end, I am amazed at the emotion of the reading you voice ; all while using an accent . Then you double down on the last lines mused by Holmes. Simply magnificent! Sir Doyle may have written the words, but you put the heart into them.
listening from Argentina! This was wonderful. Not only this helps me with improving my english but it also helps me to not lose the focus of the story and not skipping any parts, which sadly happens to me lately. Thank you for your hard work. You have a wonderful voice and accent
