Still remember seeing this on the shelves in 2004 and being blown away. I was too young to really understand how to transform it, but even at a young age I knew it was something special. My dad has a second one still MISB, kinda scary to think that its nearly 20 years old now 😬
I remember seeing this guy at Target in 2004 for $65 and being so amazed by it and tempted to get it but I passed because I had already gone through puberty and all I cared about was PS2 and high school . I did get one 4 years later tho when I was 18 off of Craigslist for $80. Great Episode
This is incredile!! I doubt this is ever read, but MP-1 is other than the original G1, the most important transformer ever made to me. The best 9th Christmas present any kid could have ever wanted. I longed after it for years
I was living in Osaka Japan, when I unexpectedly saw this (Takara Convoy) in Toys R US! Immediately picked it up and I think this is still the coolest Optimus Prime ever made!
The best way I can describe how impressive this landmark figure was: This toy (MP-01) was so awesome in its heyday that even burglars thought to grab it (along with other valuables) from homes during house break-ins back in the day! (Real story ~ not kidding!) 😅 PS. Always wondered why Roller was excluded from the general (Japanese) release of this mould ~ especially considering how G1 Optimus in popular fiction is essentially a trinitarian character sharing his consciousness with the Trailer/Repair Bay & Roller.
I remember walking into Toys r Us in 2004 looking for this guy and finally finding him. It was the most I had ever spent on any Transformer up to that point. Crazy. I didn’t hesitate at all. He’s still the only Masterpiece Optimus I own! Thanks for bringing this guy to life, Aaron!

I got my MP 01 Prime about 5 or 6 years ago, and was my first MP. He was part of a large haul that was given to me free of charge from a friend who (at the time) had recently divorced from her husband. It took my close to a full week to get it cleaned up and presentable. Although complete, it had quite a few nicks and chips in the paint and sadly, the stock piece for the gun Megatron was barely hanging on pretty much broke the moment I touched it. The Energon Axe also came apart, but that was at least fixable. I've considered maybe doing a mix of Legos and some 3d printing for a trailer just because I think the truck mode just looks better with it.
I remember coming home from school and walking into my room to see this figure and the 86 Movie sitting there on my desk. I'll forever be thankful to my parents for getting it me, i still think it's one of my favourite Transformers, it's just a shame over the years it broke. Thank you Aaron for the work you and the team put in on this!
Another good episode keep up the good work you guys are killing it and I remember seeing that Optimus Prime Amaya Walmart before I start collecting and now I wish I would have picked it up
