The big companies already sell these exact products. The claim that this soap "fights cancer" is greatly exaggerated. Not trying to hate on this kid, I can see he put a lot of work and research into this project, but he basically just combined existing skin care products and put them into soap form. Some of the ingredients he used literally already existed in soap form (salicylic acid and glycolic acid). I think tretinoin is the only ingredient he used that hasn't really been sold as a soap bar before, and that's probably because its only available with a prescription and its much more effective when applied as a gel/cream/lotion instead of a soap where it gets immediately washed off. More than anything I hope this kid can stay humble and get the proper support to become a scientist one day if thats what he wants to do. I mostly blame the media and the adults around him for making such exaggerated claims. If a big company came out with this exact product and made such cancer fighting claims, they would very quickly get hit with various law suits.

He needs Gods protection. I hope them evil demons don’t try and mess with this innocent beautiful child.

It won't hurt their bottom line any more than the claims by suntan lotions and UV blockers. They'll just duplicate it and sell it themselves. Even if it doesn't work.

Not trying to be a hater but clearly this is just a feel good story the media picked up and ran with. The claim that it fights cancer is misleading at best, and considering the ingredients he used are known as chemical exfoliaters, it could potentially damage the skin. Tretinoin specifically can be really rough on the skin and needs to be used in conjunction with daily moisturizers and sunscreen. Also there is the point that these products are arguably more effective when topically applied as a lotion/gel/cream rather than being in soap form which gets quickly washed off. Anyways I was mostly just curious as to what this product actually was so I did more research on it. I think the kid did a great job on his project and it looks like he really did put in a lot of research and time into it, certainly he is deserving of winning the contest, getting recognition, and being encouraged and supported to continue his road to being a scientist if thats what he wants to do. It is only the "cancer fighting" claim that is quite the stretch. I can tell you that if a corporation came out with this same product and made such claims, they would very quickly get hit with various law suits. The media really likes these types of feel good "young genius" type stories.
