14 Years In Service: The World’s Top 10 Airbus A380 Airports

Long Haul by Simple Flying

Next week marks 14 years since the Airbus A380 entered into service. Since the first flight with Singapore Airlines, the aircraft has been operated by 15 different airlines, with over 800,000 flights scheduled with the giant. Scheduled flights have operated to nearly 100 airports, which begs the question, which are the top Airbus A380 airports based on the number of movements?

I actually laughed out loud when they showed the number of flights for DXB. A mixture of obviously and but that’s still a heck of a lot more than expected.

It's been common knowledge that LAX has the most A380 movements of airports that don't have base operations with A380s. Lufthansa, AirFrance, British Airways, China Southern, China Eastern, Thai Air, Air Malaysia, Singapore, KAL, Asiana Qantas, Etihad, Emirates, and Qatar all flew A380's pre Covid into LAX and with the exception of ANA and HiFly I think thats every airline that purchased the A380

China Eastern has no A380s and Etihad, Qatar, Thai and Malaysia Airlines never operated the A380 to LAX, so that leaves us with Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Asiana, Korean Air, China Southern, Singapore, Emirates and Qantas, that's 9 and still a decent number

ICN, Inchon International South Korea, PANC, Ted Stevens Anchorage Alaska International, HKG, Hong Kong International, FRA, Frankfurt Main International, and TPE, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport - will all certainly be in the top five on that list. Last count there were 50 carries - excluding VIP, science agencies, and governments still using the B74s. Obviously, there far more B74 cargo operators than there are passenger airlines today. KSBD International and KSDF International in the US just may show some surprises because of the cargo activity at these fields.

I flew THAI A380 once in 2019 from BKK - NRT. quite no wonder that BKK is also one on this list as BKK is THAI A380 Base and Emirate always fly A380 to BKK. But Qatar, Asiana, Korean Air, Lufthansa also used to fly A380 on seasonal schedule. However, as THAI retire thier A380 fleet I think the number of A380 for BKK will go down eventually.

Qatar actually have a relatively small A380 fleet with only 10 and only taking delivery of their first one in late 2014. Given Qatar's dominance in Doha I'm not surprised it's not on the list. That said Etihad had a decent sized A380 fleet at one stage so I'm a bit surprised that Abu Dhabi isn't on the list.

Before I would have died of cancer, Suicide, Brain Hemorage or Liver Failure. I wish to fly the A380 on atleast one of it's longest routes at MTOW, i also wish i had the chance to fly the 747-400ER or LR if that exists.... fully using a runway.... or even a A340 5/600 on MTOW... such take-offs are unbelievably and immensly LONG, though the A380 outperforms even at 564tonnes metric it just goes up like a tripple seven, unlike the other i mentioned, but still, better than a european holiday flight from AMS (EHAM) to say Heraklion in Crete... even though the take-off was amezingly long the high performance engines and the brand new NG i travelled to Crete (kreta) Took a while to spool up, and needed 2.2km of the 'kaagbaan' RW 24 especially with our bags and that of others, the pilot said because of the high temperatures all flights were sheduled in the early morning, and the 737-800 has slippery wings but because of the engine it climbed to FL370 and MAX was 366 Sssshhhhhhhhh as transavia, did this to climb out at atleast 240 before leaving the short SID Arnem2S departure that time, yes the cruizing AoA was steep and with the front toilet out pilots had to go all the way back to awnser my questions, funny how ultra low cost carriers even apply their heaviest flights at the coldest moments of the day, as if they were 747's, something A320's or 321's never had to worry about, with their more modern engines and better power output, so i asked, airbus or boeing, she said Airbus. But i landed a job here and rumours as back in 201X she said new typeratings are going to come up in favor of airbus way out in the future, and that came true.
