No it's not about backward society... it's more about misogynist regressive mentality. Some of my relatives are very rich and educated but when I saw how they were obsessed with a male heir and expected their daughter in laws to produce male child or else they will be shamed in society kind of mentality shocked me to the core 😢😢😢.

My sister (masi's daughter)got married at the age 12 and she matured at the age of 13 and after her first period she went to her husband home and now she is 19 years old with 5 children 3 girls 1 boy and 1 (abortion because her husband's father said her that she is again going to deliver girl child so they went to hospital and aborted it) and now she don't want to deliver another child but her husband and in laws want two boy children so her husband manipulated her by saying that our boy child is getting sick again & again so after some years if anything happens to him then we will be with no boy child so you should deliver babies until we get another boy child , this is the story of 99% village girls

Well where i live in Chhattisgarh people are very happy and welcoming when a girl is born , but they get sad if their 3rd child is also of same gender (boy/girl) doesn't matter, even i know a couple who are trying for 5th time for a girl

You're right. I'm from Chhattisgarh too and even lower middle class people here are happy with girl child. Some have 2 girls, are still happy and not trying for 3rd. Absolutely love my state❤
