It couldn't have been nominated. For a song to be nominated for the Oscar, it should be written exclusively to the movie, and Priscila said in an interview that she wrote this song when she was a teen and Studio Ghibli just asked her if they could use it.

@@peterpan4839 What I read is that she wrote the song, but kept it for herself because it was too personal for her at that time. Then she hear somehow that Ghibli was making the movie, and she had read the book and called them to offer the song.
There are so many live singers who cannot sing thier own songs well. She is perfect. And it's adorable when she forgets her own lyric in the third verse.
