Krokodeilos Kladas was flayed alive(peel the skin off a corpse or carcass) in 1490. Poor guy didn't even make it to 1492.

Honestly, I'm just impressed Nathan knew "cilium" off the dome. You guys are mostly right about Rome, it would finally be snuffed out for good by the Ottoman Turks in 1453 when they took Constantinople and the Roman senate there refused to recognize Mehmed the Conqueror as the new Emperor of Rome. But the Renaissance was just about to begin in Northern Italy and the Turks themselves would reign over the middle east rather well for five hundred years, so there's that.

Not a history buff my any means, but from what I understand krokodelios was a member of a prominent Greek family who led an army of soldiers in a rebellion against the invading Turks of the region.
