This is part four of the series "Best Attachments to Maintain Your Gravel Driveway" We used a 7' Rear Blade on The RK 37, We Used a 7' Land Plane on The RK 55, And Lastly and my Favorite is the 7" Box Blade on The RK 55. We talk about different types of driveways and which 3 point attachments are best for your compact Tractor. All Attachments used are RK by King Kutter

Hi Mike...thanks for the video. I use my box scraper regularly. Last year I measured my top link and recorded the measurements fully screwed in, and then fully screwed out. I bought a cylinder that met those measurements, and a couple of the same fittings the same as the top link. Welded the fittings on the ends of the cylinder, bought a couple of hoses. If I remember right, it cost me under $100. Having a hydraulic top link with the box scraper made my life a lot easier.

Great video series. Really appreciate you taking the time to make them. We just bought our first tractor (B2650) and the guy at our dealer actually talked me out of a box blade. He highly recommended a land plane (but this one does have rippers on the front if needed) So we went with his recommendation. I'm now hoping this will work for our 900' driveway. He did walk us out to his lot and showed us where he used a land plane to repair a rutted low area a few days before and it looked ok.

Luv your videos man! I want to suggest that you add a remote top link to your tractors (especially when using the box blade). It makes life so much easier when digging and then smoothing out without having to leave your seat. It also really helps when hooking up to most all pieces of equipment. Really, get this and enjoy life!

Great job, Mike. Spot on with the assessments and recommended order of purchase unless as you said, the buyer has a long driveway. I agree with Mike DLC, too, but I use my land plane opposite at our storage facility, but carve a swale in the aisles between buildings and it serves to keep the aisles smooth and water away from the buildings.

You angle and use the box blade to crown the driveway exactly the same way I use my land plane. I find that the angled cutting edges on the land plane pull the lost gravel back onto the driveway. Good job of demonstrating the strengths and weaknesses of each of these implements.

Would you please do a video on adjusting the scarifier shanks and how you use those in your driveway rejuvenation. Thanks.
@coypatton3160
@coypatton3160 6 лет назад
i8BBQ4Lunch the issue with your requested video is the adjustment of the scarifiers setup is different for different jobs. A well maintained drive may not require any use or only use where there may be a few holes to fill. While leveling a yard may require very aggressive use of full depth and even a hard tilt forward to have them dig deeper and the blade to smooth it out. To summarize, it is like his answer to which attachment is best for a driveway. Different situations require different setups. In that regards, I disagree slightly with his purchase order. All things being equal, I would purchase a back blade first due to its greater flexibility. However, if you have a certain situation, that may not apply.
@gregbrown1083
@gregbrown1083 6 лет назад
Mike, are you going to widen the driveway to the new house? I would fill both shoulders, to widen to two lanes for that causeway piece closest to the road. With that new trailer, you can bring excess dirt from all over and gradually widen it while getting rid of fill where you don't want it. Good luck.

Love the videos Mike. I bought 40 acres last year. 33 acres in woods. Will eventually need a tractor. Could you recommend what horsepower would be required for planting several 1/3 to 1/2 acre food plots. I'm guessing I'll be looking at using a disc, harrow drag, tiller and maybe something like a Plotmaster. (Funds permitting) Bought my first chainsaw with this property and love the Stihl 2 in 1 tool you recommended. Thanks Dave

Great information, Mr. Morgan! I use one of the attachments you reviewed (blade) as well as a rake to maintain my 1/2 mile gravel drive. No side work. I have a question regarding the King Kutter box blade. You mentioned certain features to consider when buying a box blade, such as additional support for lift-arm pins and curved cutting blades front and back. I noticed the the King Kutter has these features on it’s higher-end box cutters, but they offer a similar, less expensive box cutter, without the additional support for the lift-arm pins and triangle welds in the top corners found on the higher-end models. Other than that, they appear to be about the same in every other way, but the price difference between the two is several hundred dollars. So my question is - in your opinion, how important is it to have the additional lift pin and corner supports for non-commercial work? Thanks!

Great set of videos Mike! I have a bunch of trails in the woods on my property in northern MI, many have gotten overgrown due to lack of use. I have a bush hog that I planned on using to cut down the growth, and a tiller that I thought I could use to chew up the weeds and small stuff. Would you recommend a box blade or land plane to finish them? Or one of them in place of the tiller?

RK tractorguy. I see your last response to me is no longer up. Can not say that I blame you for taking it down as you in my opinion painted yourself in a bad light based on comments you made about folks. You confirmed in my mind a decision reach some time ago that I would not be using RK tractors or equipment. My original reason could have been reconsidered as the biggest one is distance to a RK store. Your statements regarding the other youTuber for me made the decision that with attitude you are not a company that I wish to do business with. Sorry you do not feel that your implements and company would benefit from exposure while attached to a different brand tractor on a youTube channel. James, I hope you got some useful input to answer your question about his kubotas Since this is comments on Mike’s channel this will be my last post in regards to this issue.
