Fifth Generation fighters are impressive with their "sensor fusion," low signatures, and advanced handling, but what's next? What happens to air warfare when adversaries' capabilities and lethality reach parity with-or exceed-our own?
On this episode, retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Lance “Pink” Floyd joins new cohost Matt "Flounder" Arny to explore the possible factors and aircraft attributes liable to define air combat in the decades ahead, such as artificial intelligence, extreme speed, optional manning, and more.
Listener questions addressed on this episode include military aviator currency-including annual medical exams, the possibility of an MH-53 Pave Low episode, and altimeter settings during carrier-based flight operations.
Episode artwork by Janek Krause. Bumper music by Jaime Lopez / announcements by Clint Bell.

I appreciate the transparency in these episodes. To listen to the B-17 episode than go to this episode is amazing how far we have come in war fighting capabilities.

"There's a DC to Light spectrum and you're not invisible in all spectrums." Well said. Sandboxx's analysis of low band search radar easily demonstrates that no LO aircraft (except maybe the B2) can penetrate an area covered with search radar. The Mighty Dragon is a significant threat although I don't know anything about it's weapon systems.

This was a really good episode, been trying to speculate on the future of air combat for a sci-fi series i'm writing, and hearing experts speculating is so much more more helpful than most of writing related channels i see.

Great job gentlemen, was sure brave of him to talk about his DUI. You never know, maybe it took his career in a better direction.

It’s difficult to say “everything happens for a reason” without sounding trite, but he seems to be making the best of his journey.

Great episode! Your episodes are always very good and enjoyable, but the last three have been really great.👍 (OK, it has partly been about things I work/-ed with, so I'm slightly biased)

I know it's a WW2 plane, so it's pretty old, but I would love to see an episode on the ME 163 Komet. Maybe even just a segment in a WW2 German planes episode would be good too.

It's why we stopped building the F-22 and moved to hypersonics and Space Force vehicles.

space force has exactly zero combat vehicles. every launch is doen by space x or ula, and the payloads were in the works by the airforce or with lockhead/honeywell/northrop contracts

The DOD contractors have to do a better job of keeping our secrets and vetting/investigating it’s workers. Pink mentioned the theft of tech-it’s the main reason for the slight pessimistic overview, in my opinion. Our taxes, our weapon systems!
