I was 13 at the time , up from Wales on holiday staying at my uncle's in Stirling. I was a huge Celtic and Scotland fan back then and my uncle's mate Kenny took me to see the game. It was an incredible experience and the Scot's fans were great fun. That night back in Stirling we had a massive house party to celebrate the win. Great days. Now I'm 52 and I have been back to Scotland with the wife and kids many times. A beautiful country and lovely people.
Fantastic times, loved the Home Internationals, always great atmospheres. Best England kit ever on display here too, made by Admiral, and the good old square wooden goal posts.
I hitch-hiked from the south of France and back for this match (and the Bayern - St Etienne EC final). Nearly four days on the road and sustained all the way back by the memory of this great win. From my angle (low down, terracing, other end) we didn't know the ball was in until we heard the roar of the crowd behind the goal.
@@josegaston1257 Sounees was a great player:really excellent in Liverpool. One of the best midfield in the great Liverpool 70's mid 80's and sure one of the best for Scotland! Greetings to you from Italy
Looking at this all these years later we all owe Clemence a bit of leniency. Little deflection off Mills made all the difference there but never got a mention.
@Afterglow1010 Shilton after 85 was crap. He became slow, couldnt save a penalty for toffee. In 1986 how can Maradona whos 5ft 4 beat Shilton 6ft+ in the air? but he did.
@@martynandrew7366 he was 5ft 4in lol shilton 6ft cmon man. His arm was on his head not in the air stretched. Shilton should have easily got that ball. Lazy bastrd he was. Became so slow especially at Derby, was like an old man trying to save penalties lol.
@@andisadler2897 Shilton would have punched the ball, if Maradona hadn’t. How would Shilton have expected that ? ….and how would he have expected the Ref & linesman not to see it ? I agree his record on penalties was poor, but that was because he didn’t gamble. He hoped, admittedly wrongly, that he could wait until the ball was kicked
Jack Charlton said " it was a pity Scotland would win the game on a controversial goal ." What utter nonsense . It was a stupid statement to make , based on sour grapes . The goal was not controversial in any way , shape or form . It was simply poor goalkeeping by Ray Clemence - nothing more , nothing less .
Clements should of made an easy save is what jack means. Shilton an clements were both decent keepers for there day. Unlike the scotish no 1s at the time.
