Let's begin with Getting Things GNOME, a productivity app to enter all your todo lists and make sure you actually do something. It lets you create tasks, of course, with start dates, and due dates, as well as tags, that you can create on the fly by preceding any word with the @ symbol.
Shortwave is a handy app that lets you browse webradios, and listen to any music genre you want, for free. It shows you the top voted stations first, as well as trending radio stations, but of course you can search for anything you might want, whether it's a genre or a station name.
If you like books, but reading makes you sleepy, maybe you have some audiobooks lying around? In that case, Cozy is going to be amazing for you. Just point it to the directory where you store them, and it will auto detect them, or you can simply drag and drop files. Cozy will auto detect the metadata for each book, and add some nice cover art. You can filter books by recently listened to, by author, or by the person reading the book, or search through your library.
Fragments is a torrent client. It lets you download these nifty little files using that wonderful peer to peer network.
For Backups, we have Deja Dup. It's made to backup your home user directory, not your whole system, but it's still pretty important to have backups of all your personal files.
GNOME Boxes lets you run virtual machines. Not only does it let you create a VM from the ISOs you already have in your downloads folder, but it also lets you download some ISOs directly from the app, or select one yourself.
Sometimes you just need a very basic app for drawing a few thins on top of a screenshot, or create a pixel art masterpiece. Drawing does just that. It's basically Microsoft Pain, but for Linux.
If you want to start your own videos, but don't want to use something super complex, Pitivi should be right up your alley.
Mousai is basically Shazam for your Linux desktop.
If you have to interact with text a lot, Text pieces might come in handy.
If you're a graphic designer, or you just like fancy fonts, Font Downloader will be a cool program to add to your applications grid.
You might want to compress images, and for that, Curtail is perfect.
If you want to check how much that compression process has affected your picture, you can use Identity.
If you prefer working with a bit of noise, but music distracts you too much, Blanket might have a solution. it lets you select a few "white noises" like rain, storms, wind, waves, or birds, and tune each one of them to get the ambiance you want to work or relax.
Let's finish this with metadata cleaner, a super handy tool to let you remove any metadata from any file type you have.

Suggestion for next video: undervolting on Linux. Laptop bios-es are often really locked down, so the only option is to do it in software. Windows has many good options but they are not available on Linux. Undervolting can really increase performance of your machine

Most of these apps work great on none-gnome desktop, but of course look a bit out of place on QT/KDE Plasma-based desktops I use some gnome apps on my minimal installation with a standalone window manager, I would like to use some KDE Plasma apps but the problem with them are the tons of dependencies and also some of them have very buggy theming compared to normal QT apps, like Dolphin for example, which is a shame From this video, I use : - Deja Dup - Boxes (sometimes instead of virt-manager) - Pitivi (mostly for testing) - Blanket
@TazerXI
@TazerXI 2 года назад
The main way to fix them looking out of place, on plasma at least, is to change the GTK theme as well as the QT theme. In the KDE system settings to go appearance, application style, and in the bottom right you have a button to change the gnome/gtk theme, for those who didn't know
@atemoc
@atemoc 2 года назад
@@TazerXI But the problem I have with this is that it only really works well on KDE Plasma
@TazerXI
@TazerXI 2 года назад
@@atemoc Yea, I know. That is the shame. Still better than it not being there, but this is the issue with crossing over themes and such. QT apps work with QT, and GTK works with GTK. And you can't really make them one without annoying someone. Gnome apps are designed in one way following their language, using GTK. KDE apps are designed their own way using QT. Other apps are designed their own way using wither GTK or QT, or neither. There is no real solution past what plasma has done imo.
@atemoc
@atemoc 2 года назад
@@TazerXI Well, QT and GTK themes can be made to look the same, and on my system they both look identical, only KDE apps look weird, because of the way they implemented it
@TazerXI
@TazerXI 2 года назад
@@atemoc Yea, you can make them look the same. I use the same GTK and QT styles.

Informative video, you are a Linux Rock Star brother! However, I'm still wondering what I'm missing in Fedora that makes it so special for everyone else like yourself? I started running Fedora 35 with Gnome 41 after the holiday season and after about 2 months went back to Manjaro running KDE Plasma.
