I think you should dedicate an entire discussion video to the topic of anger in Tekken, I really relate to you on the feeling like a psychopath thing at times. People in my life have come into my room when I'm raging because they are genuinely concerned for my wellbeing. I have a really hard time controlling my emotions and ego when playing tekken which sucks the fun right out of it and has even affected my relationships. I'd be grateful to hear more about your experiences regarding this subject. Makes me feel less crazy knowing even skilled and experienced players like yourself go through this stuff.
I don’t rage but I can get really down when I’m not playing well and usually end keep on playing which makes me feel even. Self discipline is key to getting good at and enjoying Tekken.
This! I drink water throughout sessions, & thought it was enough to keep my brain proactively engaged. I didn't think adding food was that big of a deal, & thought that recently my skills had dipped due to my short break. I would hand out free Ws & THEN go eat hahaha, & not hop back on after. I went on break right after hitting Tekken King, so coming back I genuinely thought I was just good with water. Earlier tho, I just happened to eat before I played & man I felt like I was on fire. I went on an 8 game win streak before getting off, & each person was within 10,000 to 50,000 prowess higher than me, on "troublesome" characters at that (Lidia, Xiayou, Lee, & Jin).
for me the worst habit i got is just midless flowcharting like i always go flicker 1 into albatross 2 whenever im in flicker stance theres other ones but man it sucks cause i know about the fact that im doing certain flowcharts with steve and its just so hard to break those flowcharts the second they kinda get cemented in your playstyle
I feel you there, been stuck at flame ruler for a week cuz I realized my gameplan with Steve is stagnant when he has many layers to his offense I should utilize
I totally feel you on the anger. I almost never get angry in real life but this game makes me smash controllers lol. I decided to take a month off, or even more until I can get it under control.
I'm a former pro Super Smash Bros. player and in tournament I don't even feel that level of negative energy. Something about ranked triggers that in myself (and in a lot of people) Thank you for sharing your struggle Buff! Takes a real man to admit their faults. You sharing that is a nice reminder that we all have that experience from time to time and it's okay to be human and we can learn to minimize that negativity as much as we can.
Definitely relate to the point about anger issues lol. What helped me is seeing it as: winning matches shows good Tekken skills, but keeping your cool through the bullshit the game throws at you is good life skills.
Absolutely stellar video. Very guilty of not ducking strings (partly due to my crappy reaction time) and playing while tilted from one moment in a game long gone. One habit I think should be considered is “focusing too much on landing a move/string/combo”. Fought some Kazuyas that just throw electric, whiff, then do it again.
The “But Just ONE MORE Game! Maybe I’ll get lucky and WIN” after going on a 10 losing streak 😔😔😞and then you have to accept going to bed with a loss/disastrous playing session. It SUCKS!
@@HzHDGaming fuck man, that is EXACTLY the hole I fall down every time I go on a massive demotion streak. It’s a rut you have to learn to be ok with. We both have to learn to walk away with a loss streak so tomorrow we can bring it back with a win and promo streak. We got this, we can get over the hump. Best of luck, bro.
Keep making these videos man, every time you upload i swear i get a rankup Also you say youre a controller player, which controller do you prefer? I used to be xbox but switched to hitbox to save my hands from longer play sessions, also noticed my inputs quicken across the board At the end of the video you talk about bad habits from characters, potential video about this?
Habit #4 is my biggest weakness right now, its worked so long but nlw i have to win with the little hits and counterhits instead of just preying on impatient noobs
i also switched to leverless because when i play on gamepad more than 2 hours my big thumb aches (i playing on king so i need to press hcf all the time to input giant swing) i so glad that i tried leverless (dont see any drawbacks of this (maybe inputs in p2 side not very good, but i think is easy to overcome it with practice))
i gotta thank u man, i was stuck in low purple ranks for months and after watching this video i actually managed to get a 12 win streak and im almost at blue now. matches actually feel not luck based now for me lol.
As a person who is always looking for improvement on the Tekken series, this video made me learn plenty of habits that I do myself. Along with habits my friends do. Their ego or unwillingness to learn is the reason they either lose, or get mad. I wish one specific friend of mine would watch this and take a note. Can’t help somebody who doesn’t want to help themself.
Thank you for this video. Even though facts are known, sometimes things need to be said out loud for it to be registered. Wnd that's what you did here. Once again, Thank you for this video.
ayo this video is so cool man definitely needed - the last point about being angry - omg couldnt be far from the truth and needs to be spoken about way more! respect! i be telling my partner to turn her anime off cause its messing with the wifi lol
I feel like I shouldn't be watching this yet, nearly all of this stuff isn't a habit for me, but a case of just not knowing when the fuck to do stuff. At least I can dash block though, I learned that very early on and is something that just feels natural to me.
Have enough discipline to not go autopilot. Throw out attacks with intent and not just for the sake of it. Mind you, this only works at blue ranks and above. At the lower ranks, just have fun but lock in when you reach Fujin. At this point, you're fighting the player rather than the character.
Im in Raijin right now and opponents will punish you well for randomly whiffing. This game is all about unlearning the unecessary. Im doing at least 10/15 of this bad habits.
Not entirely sure what you're trying to describe in habit number 10? If it's about a specific demographic of players that can't break throws but rely on them, that's great for them even if they complain about it. Not only do they get free throw break practice from all the people who are going to revenge throw them, but one of the best emotions to help us change is anger, so if they're fuming on forums, they have all the motivation they need to go practice throw breaking.
The best thing I did for myself playing is taking a break. Even for a day. Seems like whenever I return/not playing I’m not even that rusty and I subconsciously switch up my gameplay and usually rank up.
small thing to note about taking advantage of plus frames is that mashing is insane on lower levels, you press any frame advantage and you will get mash punished, teaching and solidifying really bad habits for new players that stunt their potential. hell, the story mode, even back in t7, just incentivizes mashing as the most optimal way to beat the levels because you dont know the character among other things
@@S.Pizzle103 hahaha yeah bro. I was playing against my buddy. And we were doing shots. After the first shot I won like 4 games straight. Then we did another shot and I started losing back to back. Funny thing is he gets better when he’s drunk and I get worse!! 😂😂
I love an example of the first with law, 3+4,4. its a death trap dont finish the string and you get punished. Finish the string and you're getting duck launch punished 🤣
Also learn how to play on the opposite side as soon as possible. It sucks to feel like you basically lost the round just because the cameraman decided to pull a lil' sneaky on you
many players do this and they still tekken god thanks to this game , they have to face a very good player which is very rare or a tournament player to realise they are doing wrong stuff
These were ALL great BUUUUUT I function a million times faster and more accurately when fasted lol, im more balanced blood pressure fasted once I eat my blood pressure drops considerably while i digest the food for a few hours soooooo... yeah play fasted and focused. Balls full stomach empty perfect electrics every time💪
"My family thinks im a fucking raging psycho when i play this game" "im a happy-go-lucky guy, super chill, when im not playing tekken" This fucking game man. I feel you. I have never broken my things over it, but holy shit. I have never felt or expressed as much anger in my fucking life as i have playing this game. And i cant put it down, i love it and regret not playing it sooner. I have been trying to control it and stay as zen as i can, and i succeed for long stints, but then it just creeps up again. I find, for me, the best way to fight it back off is to play a character i have no idea how to play and to just go into ranked with them. Im goimg to lose, im not going to know what to do, but it isnt anger inducing since i had no chance anyways. Best part is all i can think about is my mains tools as im fighting the urge to button mash. This way can probably only work for so long as i learn the characters but still, if anyone else gets uncharacteristically angry playing your main, just go in with someone you dont know and dont bother practicing them first, and just focus on defense and poking and let the losses cleanse you of the rage build-up.
Lmaooo you delivered this vid just like you said, thank you so much! The dash block thing never crossed my mind. The string defense is a work in progress! Amazing video, hope you have a great weekend 😌✌🏾
My buggest problem is not stopping the momentum of the fight when someone is in rage, then i get raged. The mentality the red health bar puts onto people every round is ruining the game for me. I miss old tekken with no rage and no super armor
Just need to remember to not force the win once they’re in rage, and try to play a bit more defensively at that point unless you’re able to close it out. If they’re in rage and the neutral is reset, you need to be less aggressive or you’ll eat rage arts too often.
#5 is something alot of new Yoshi mains need to understand. Most Yoshi's are waaaayyyy too eager to start their combos and die to my frankly mediocre neutral and this is from a weak yoshi.
To punish unsafe move you have to know that they are unsafe. And if tekken 8 is my first game is impossible to know all the unsafe moves since the game is having tons tons of moves. And depending on how the move is looking it can be deceiving: some moves look unsafe while they're frame traps and vise versa.
@@stanislavchugunov correct. And it’s a bad habit to get into when you’re so new. Not labbing characters and understanding what moves do what is something you don’t want to teach yourself to do when you’re new, even if it’s something every new player is guilty of.
Hey bro. I really enjoy your videos. Great gameknowledge and teaching. I personally would enjoy it more if u could make the videos shorter! Greeting from germany
What you said regarding whiffing from distance - it is actually a VERY effective tool against those turtle-type players who always hold back when they get low to insta rage art when you do a move Just jab the air really quick to bait out the rage art and kill them. Works similar with people who love doing the same shit with heat bursts. Jab whiff or hit into sidestep whatever their weak side is for heat burst.
Be careful I had to take a break from tekken for 6 months after practicing electrics with Kazuya on controller for hours everyday and straining my left wrist. Now I only play on mixbox
@@lundbergdrums6642 yeah, it's stories exactly like yours that keep me from doing so. I practice the electrics specifically for like 10 minutes a day max, then the rest is actual movement and combo drills. I do appreciate the wisdom though, my dude!
That used to happen to me. Honestly that means you’re trying too hard. If your technique is perfect it really don’t need much effort. Don’t press hard. Press your thumb down as if you’re going to press them at the same time but just slightly roll it into D/DF.
I honestly noticed that Haworang players that auto pilot. Throw out that double kick armor moves without thinking even though it's grab punishable. Reina too. That being said. This and Chad's video about exploring other characters. Great guides on improvement mind set. Great Vid as always man. Can't wait for the next.
@@alibahali3671 You are still in low ranks bro, Raijin is a low rank 😂 ngl getting stuck at garyu with one of the easiest carried characters in fighting game history is a skill issue
I more get frustrated with myself for not feeling like I can improve. That said I have been playing a few other games that helped me do a bit of a reversal on my mindset. Granted, some characters I feel get stereotyped as obnoxious, but I end up not taking a lot seriously. Another thing I look at is, I see Quick Matches as the place to learn (or attempt to) and have a bit of fun and improve, while Ranked is the exams. And playing Overwatch 2 for the first time, has me not take ranked seriously as often times, there's a number of things that are out of your control, and all you can do is work on the things you CAN control. Also: Reina has taught me bad habits regarding her b1+2 as it's a very useful Armour move to steal the turn back, but it leaves you vulnerable to throws as it's Armour. Even when I press 1+2 to try and throw break it but I move back out of reflex. Also given her poor lows, I tend to not focus on lows much (which leaves me vulnerable to lows as a result). Not sure if that is a similar experience other Reina players have but it's one I found when I started playing Tekken 8 with her (picked her up cause she gave me Heihachi before DLC and I enjoy playing her a lot)
Ur Tips would be great if it's tekken 7 but tekken 8 is the game of mashers u need to Play Careless and without hesitation of course u wanna Learn punishes and defense but u don't wanna Play defensive u See it in Tournaments all the time they Believe in thier Read and throw thier moves Out without thinking what happens and without hesitation i got a Good friend who throws out some stupid af moves but It works Because He knows his defensive but plays aggressiv and without hesitation
Another thing: when you're tilted - stop playing the game and just do something else Sometimes taking a step back can help you unlearn bad habits - reset your mind
I'm fujin blue on 2 characters right now. I could go higher, but I decided it's better to work on the fundamentals you laid out on this video first. My tekken philosophy is to make sure my rank and skill match each other. No one will call me carried or a booster. LOL. I love your videos.
