I am Trinidadian and love all Caribbean countries and would like to visit each one of them..every country has something to offer with their own style uniqueness, flavor etc but a few bad 🍏s spoil the bunch and can give certain ones a bad name. Hello guys dont forget that Venezuela is the best kept secret of the Caribbean region. In fact about 2,500-3,000 years ago, farmers and potters related to the Arawak-speakers of northeast of actual Venezuela established a pathway into the Caribbean. Using the delta fingers of Orinoco River Basin like highways, they travelled from the interior to coastal Venezuela and pushed north into the Antilles islands of the Caribbean Sea, settling Puerto Rico and eventually moving westward. Their arrival ushered in the region’s Ceramic Age, marked by agriculture and the widespread production and use of pottery. Over time, nearly all genetic traces of Archaic Age people vanished, except for a holdout community in western Cuba that persisted as late as European arrival. Intermarriage between the two groups was rare, with only three individuals in the study showing mixed ancestry. Many present-day Cubans, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are the descendants of ancient people from Venezuela , as well as European immigrants and enslaved Africans. But researchers noted only marginal evidence of Archaic Age ancestry in modern individuals. And even today, with economic crisis happening in Venezuela, the Antilles is seeing an influx of alot of South Americans (mainly Venezuelans) on the islands. In a couple years, if this trend continues, the whole demographic landscape of the islands can change again.

I was taught in school that Hispaniola meant little Spain. However, it is the whole island that was renamed “ HAYTI “ by the Ancestors. They keep referring to it as Hispaniola maybe to differentiate between Haiti 🇭🇹 and the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴. The first time people on the eastern portion of the island wanted to separate from Haiti, they wanted to call their country Spanish Haiti. It doesn’t matter much at this time because we, Haitians dropped the ball big time. However, facts are facts, and we cannot rewrite history.

@Caribbean Lifestyle by Jirie Re: Barbados a) The pronunciation is more like "Los Bar-bah-dose" b) The Arawaks, not Caribs, inhabited Barbados some 500 years before the largescale European invasion in the 1400's c) An additional theory as to the island's name is that when Portuguese sailors first encountered they saw black bearded men. Los Barbados was named after the many Bearded Fig Trees which covered the island. The number of these trees significantly decreased over the years due to deforesting for agriculture and housing development.

I spoke to an older woman Ghanaian who said Jamaica in her tribe (located where the ships left) means “maybe we are stuck” which is what the people were saying when they stopped in Jamaica instead of America. 🤷🏽‍♀️
