I love durian and dragon fruit and the seeds of the dragon fruit is edible. No spitting needed. I have some dragon fruit growing in my back yard and the flesh is reddish purple instead of the common white flesh. Can't wait to harvest soon.

dip Timu oohhh I see. The ones I've tried so far are mildly sweet. The ones sold from stores are usually the usual red and white varieties. But there are also named varieties that are hard to find at stores like one called purple haze which I'm currently growing along with other varieties. Purple haze is supposed to be sweet with hints of grape flavor. I'll be able to find out when I get to harvest my first fruit. Hopefully you'll be able to try others with better flavor.

Danae Goliath Scientifically vegetables don't exist. I know, I was surprised to learn that too haha Btw, I hate it when people call a pumpkin or a bell pepper vegetables when they're fruits 😂
@XxScArEcRoWxX1
@XxScArEcRoWxX1 7 лет назад
Regardless of all that scientific stuff. Most if not all of us will continue to separate the two simply because the wheel works.. fruit is sweet and vegetables are not.
@JishinimaTidehoshi
@JishinimaTidehoshi 7 лет назад
XxScArEcRoWxX1 But pumpkins and bell peppers are sweet though. So are tomatos. Kids hate the word vegetable, don't you think they would eat more of them if we called them something else? "Hey kid here's a broccoli, it's not a disgusting veggie but a flower actually, bon appetit." 😁

I briefly dated a guy who was involved in a mangosteen juice pyramid scheme (Xango). He attempted to bring me on board, then got upset when I explained to him that it is a common asian fruit...then left for the market and brought back some canned and fresh mangosteens...because I am delightfully tactful that way. ;-)

Pomello: You really can't tell when you've found a nice juicy one. Many are dry and tasteless. If I want a Pomello I go to market where they've taken the fruit out of the rind and wrapped it in plastic. Now you know what you're getting. Wax apple: Those look a variety of what we call rose apples. I'm not a huge fan, but they are popular with children. star fruit: There is a starfruit tree at the school where I teach. As soon as this crop is ripe i plan on picking some. They grow Longans in a small town on the way to Chiang Mai. They are extremely succulent and very popular. Guavas: To me these are fairly tasteless. The ones here are not pink. Persimmon: This is one I don't particularly care for. Mangosteen: is my favorite Thai fruit! Too bad they don't grow these in the U.S. Dragon fruit: I can take or leave it. I once got a glass of dragon fruit juice in Bangkok. Frankly it was too "earthy" for my tastes. Rambutan: Very popular. Even after many years I STILL can't pronounce it correctly in Thai! In Thai it is called เงาะ, which is SUPPOSED to be pronounced ngaw. Jackfruit: I have two jackfruit trees in my yard. Personally I find them to be too sweet. Durrian: No how. No way.

Available in America: pomelo star fruit which is nearly flavorless Logan waxberry at large city Asian markets guava persimmon mangosteen sapodilla breadfruit dragon fruit rambutan jackfruit durian. No there are no commas because everytime I try to voice type A, it types, Karma. I must voice type 100% of the time so just pay no attention to the lack of commas.

Clarification: the dragon eye is great because the flesh is smooth and easy to chew as well as how sweet and juicy it is. The lychee tastes the same but the flesh near the core is bitter and only ripe ones are sweet. Unripe ones are sour. The rambutan is a hairy version of the lychee but the seed has an easily peel able skin so when you try to eat the flesh some skin will get stuck to it but the flesh is one of the best as it is like a fruit punch , not only sweet but sweet and sour.

I've honestly never heard of half of those fruits. In central Europe we can get pomelo and kaki/sharon/persimmon (yes, we have 3 names for it) every winter, sometimes lychee, pitahaya (dragon fruit), carambola (star fruit) and guava. We managed to get canned rambutan once. As we talk about fruits, I'm hunting cherimoya for few years now. It tastes like vanilla pudding!

Star fruits are native to South America. They were IMPORTED to Asia because they are mostly similar in weather conditions, just like guavas and the jackfruit. Plus, south americans call the draonfruit "pitaya" or "mandacaru", depending on the region you are, "mandacaru" being primarily the brazilian way to refer to this fruit.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carambola. Star fruit are NATIVE to southeast asia and IMPORTED to south america. Jackfruit originated from India. Meanwhile, dragon fruit and guava, yes they originated from south america

Jackfruit is the best, it tastes the best, if you like the juicyfruit bubblegum you are going to Love the jackfruit. Sweetsop/sugar-apple and naseberry/sapodilla are very good also. I recommend that you roast your breadfruit first then cut it in wedges then fry it until the sides are golden brown and crispy, awesome with eggs or any saute meat or fish.

The wax apple (or tambis as we'd call it here in the Philippines) brings a lot of memories from when every afternoon when I was like below the age of 7, after my nap time, my grandfather would o always bring me to the farm or like to these woods like area in our place and loadsss of those would either be on the ground or on trees. My grandfather would usually just pick like A LOT and then eat it an he'd offer some to me as well, but then my mom would get too mad if he gave me too much

Never seen pommelo sold peeled, but love longan, lychee, rambutan...guava is too gritty. Asian permission is SO much better than American. Never seen mangosteen for sale. The sapodilla I got wasn't ripe. Love lotus seed paste. Never seen breadfruit offered for sale in the US, either, but dragonfruit? I FREAKING LOVE DRAGONFRUIT! I have a few plants, too. I planted a narrow wedge and got hundreds of seedlings. I've only had canned jackfruit. And durian? Uh...OMG. And somehow, I keep falling for it. There are different types of carambola (star fruit), one is sweet, the other is sour and known as pickle fruit. I've had both, and planted seeds from one and got a lovely little tree.

Quite a few of these can be found where I live either growing wild or in our neighborhood backyards. And we don't even know the actual names of these fruits so it's funny that I learned the 'mountain apples' that I love so much and literally, do pick off a mountain were called ' Wax Apples' , I feel like how after I learned that product scanners only scanned the spaces between the black lines. Absolutely Shook! Even worse is that I've been calling that 'Ci-coo(?)' fruit, Chi-co fruits my whole life , and called anything resembling a grapefruit or lychee exactly that. So, I guess everyday I learn something new! :)

There's a fruit in the Philippines called lansones. Looks like a long an but it's skin is velvety smooth. Inside looks & texture is the same except in has smaller to no seeds. There's also lumboy, which is the same size & meat texture as grapes. The skin looks like the black purple color of eggplant. It has a large seed in it, flesh is deep purple to dark fuchsia. Can be dried like raisin. Does anyone else know if lumboy trees grow all over Philippines & other countries?

Is the wax apple similar to the Hawaiian mountain apple. It looks similar. If it is. I would enjoy eating them.

We have a fruit called ohi’a’ai that grows in the mountains. It kind of looks like that wax apple.
