Alan Arkin was such a a versatile actor! I never saw him in a bad role. He could be so scary like in "Wait Until Dark", but also such great comedic performances too many to mention.
Glenda Jackson was an AMAZING Queen Elizabeth I !! She won an Oscar for it as Best Actress. She was a stellar talent! Just awesome! She commanded the screen.
Heartbroken to see that George Maharis has died. I grew up watching him in Route 66 and he became my favourite singer, I had all his LPs, still playing them. RIP.
My girlfriend was invited to his cousin's party , she , his cousin asked him he wanted to sing , George declined. My girlfriend did not know who he was , until she mentioned , it to her father .My girlfriend's father was impressed when he found out , George was at the party .
I loved Glenda Jackson's portrayal of Elizabeth l in the movie "Mary Queen of Scots" (1971) with Vanessa Redgrave and I remember seeing her in the BBC television series "Elizabeth R" in the early 1970's. She was a great actress!
I saw Tina many times in the 1960's and 70's when she and Ike had the Ike and Tina Turner Revue with four backup singers and dancers known as the Ikettes. They operated out of St. Louis Mo. at the time and were extremely popular on both sides of the Mississippi River during their early years before national acclaim, There was a locally famous ballroom in the small town of Benld IL known as the Coliseum Ballroom It was built in 1924 and had the biggest dance floor between Chicago and St. Louis at 5,000 sq feet. All of the famous Big Bands played there from the 20s to the late 50' until rock and roll took precedence and some of the hottest groups and single artists got their early bookings or made comeback appearences at the Coliseum. The place was cozy and you could get up and talk to the performers as the stage was only about three feet off the dance floor and there was no "green room" for them at the break, just some reserved tables and that's how I was invited by Tina to sit down with her and the girls and share a drink with them. I was 18 or 19 at the time and I was speechless. Turned out that Ike knew my brother in law who was in the music business selling instruments and amps and told Ike I would be there and describing me so he gave Tina a heads up when he saw me. It was a memory I have cherished since then and I am 74. You can see posts here on RU-vid about the great history of the Coliseum from it's founding in 1924 to the fire that destroyed in 2011 together with lots of pictures of the stars and bands of the Big Band Era and the legends of Rock and Roll including Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Johnny Rivers, Wilson Pickett, Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs, Joe Tex, and many more. .
Alan Arkin's best films were The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming...AND, the heartbreaking The heart Is A Lonely Hunger, for which he was nominated for the Oscar, and boy, oh boy, he should have won!
Alan Arkin,- As Yossarian (YoYo) "Catch 22". The character of Yossarian is a 28-year-old captain in the 256th Squadron of the Army Air Forces where he serves as a B-25 bombardier stationed on the small island of Pianosa off the Italian mainland during World War II. In actuality B-25 bombardiers also doubled as navigators thus held the nickname "Bombigator". A great anti- war movie with a superb cast.
Alan Arkin, was one cool cat, back in the day. I loved him & Richard Crenna, in Wait Until Dark, in the late 60s. I was hoping that Julian Sands, would be found, alive not dead. He was a brilliant actor. Warlock, was my favorite, character. RIP to all that have passed, so far this yr.❤
Thanks to all these actors and actresses for bringing to life dozens of amazing characters. I particularly loved the forbearing Marjory of Angela Thorne in "To The Manor Born" and Alan Arkin in "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter."
I'm 77 & watched the careers of nearly all of those deceased, since they started, (even met one,i.e. Pat Cooper!) When a great actor dies at an older, appropriate age, we grieve but understand! But, when we lose them, still in their prime, i.e. Treat Williams, Julian Sands, Ray Stevenson, Ray Batayeh, Samantha Weinstein, etc., it's a "Life Unfinished"! p.s Even at age 89. I was shocked to hear of Alan Arkin's passing! Great Actor! R,I,P, et al!
When I heard of his death, I googled and the two films I remember him from was Arachnophobia and Boxing Helena and I knew I had the DVD of Boxing Helena and have since found it. I will watch it again soon. A brilliant and much loved actor. R.I.P. xxx
@@Thurgosh_OG - I love to watch “The Ritz”. That is one funny movie. He was excellent in that film. I hate motorcycles. I’ve lost too many friends from motorcycle accidents. A family friend three weeks ago lost a leg, above the knee. They’re too dangerous, you have zero protection.
Nicolas Koster on Another World was a suave master of the "pregnant pause." In NYC I had the same tennis instructor as Barry "Petrocelli" Newman. Rest in peace.
A number of years ago a group of us (NYC Teacher Retirees) were having lunch at the Lambs Club in NYC. Surprise! Sur;prise! Pat Cooper was in the Lambs Club at the same time. Seeing our group, he asked to stop by our table and talked with us. He was very friendly and outgoing. One could see that he was happy to be around people. What a loss!
I can't believe what happened to Julian Sands. I remember some of his older kind of campy horror movies from the 80's and 90's. I never heard he was missing, let alone found dead? This is a shock and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and fans. As well as to all of the other actors who passed away. 🙏RIP🕊 to all of them. They all brought joy, excitement, thrills, and mystery to all of our lives.
My heart goes out to each and everyone of the fine actors and actresses, family,s who has passed away😢. All of them will truly be, in Jesus name Amen, Amen, Amen,🙏🏽🙏🙏🏽🙏❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢, Donna Davis from Buffalo, N.Y.❤😢
Alan Arkin omg as Yossarian in "Catch 22" (how did you miss that one?) also a movie I saw growing up was "Freebie and the Bean" great 70's flick with James Caan, Loretta Swit, and Valerie Harper
Never saw Valley Girl. Only movie I saw Freddy in was "Apocalypse Now" as "Chef". Had to do a scene virtually face to face with a tiger. Scared the shit out of him.
Alan Arkin was such a a versatile actor! I never saw him in a bad role. He could be so scary like in "Wait Until Dark", but also such great comedic performances too many to mention.
I'm a big fan, too.... he had so many great roles, but I can't believe they didn't refer "The In-Laws" as on of his best roles. He was so funny in this movie😂
It may sound like I'm insulting but I do not like this video only because I do not like hearing about people that passed away that help bring joy in my life by entertaining me. It is heartbreaking but I do appreciate you letting us know that they did pass. To me they will live forever from the great work they provided us. God bless them all. 🙏
Rest In Peace Glenda Jackson, who was unforgettable in her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I of England in both the BBC series "Elizabeth R" and in the movie "Mary, Queen of Scots" with Vanessa Redgrave.
